Thanks for this video! To state the obvious - this is toilet bowl cleaner designed for removing rust stains and the like. It's not sold world-wide. It looks like CLR (calcium, lime, rust remover) or Lime-A-Way are U.S. equivalents, but I haven't verified this.
Thanks for info that may help other from different countries, these are the ingredients : Ingredients. Per 100g of Liquid contains 9g of Hydrochloric Acid, Contains
Have the same bike, will try when weather allows a bit, was thinking of taking the exhaust off altogether, but I think the bolts are going to need replacing if i do that. I don't think it was ever taken down. Great video, and keep up the good work on the vfr.
Thanks for this video mate. Ive tried all sorts to remove the rust with no luck. Scrubbed hard and seen silver and nearly cried, so ive needed this video haha! Got the exact same VFR as you, and getting they two screws off that holds the fairing together at the bottom was unreal man. One screw rounded that bad I had to hammer a drill bit into it and keep it there for when I put it back on. Nightmareee
Wow, thank you for the informative video. I know tons of people looking for a product to cleaning their rusty exhaust. Good input about the chrome part.
Wow, I was just looking for a way to remove the rust on my exhaust headers and pipes, and it happens to be a vfr800 just like mine!! Nice!! There is blue bottle version of this sold in Amazon for the U.S market with Harpic Powerplus 10x max written on it. Not sure if its the same one as yours.
A word of warning : Although the internet is full with advices to use Harpic Power Plus 10X to clean a stainless steel exhaust, I would strongly advice not to. It contains hydrochloric acid and yes it will clean and penetrate the stainless steel surface impurities, but at the same time it will destroy the surface of some stainless steel products that don't contain enough chromium to form a new passive protective layer. So in the end the cleaned surface will start to oxidice very quick and you do not want that. hydrocloric acid is the one acid that should NOT be used on Stainless steel, it actually destroys its capability to reform a hard chromium surface that prevents it from corroding There are far better, safer products like welders pickling paste , that use milder nitric acid used in passivation solutions. They come in a paste form that is brushed on. Let it sit for half an hour and rinse very thorough (high pressure would be good) with a lot of water. It will clean and decolour the surface perfect and it won't harm the surface of the stainless steel. It is used by welders to clean the coloured and contaminated welding surface on stainless steel welds Just to give a bit of warning.... You shouldn't believe me, search the internet on hydrochloric acid vs stainless steel..... Do the same on nitric acid.( Just don't let the nitric paste come in contact with aluminium.) And one more thing : It is even stated in the Harpic Power Plus product safety data sheet : Reactive or incompatible with the following materials: metals

wow yep on way to shop lol. One bottle of Harpic please lol. Yes and agree why didnt honda cover this bit up with extra fairing mines the same thanks will try this.
A H no it hasn’t which has surprised me 🤔 I know it doesn’t strip the rust it reacts with it, maybe it’s ok in paint. I might try on the forks as they painted
Are you using steel wool to scrub after and if so would it work with a wire brush I have a second hand Lexmoto Michigan I bought that has a rust on exhaust but on all the pics of the bike the exhaust is black so don't know if painted and
Can't believe you don't have a tool to take the heatshield off. Take headers off for a proper job. Stops bolts from seizing up too, if you undo em before it's too late.
I've heard it rusts up faster after doing it so you'll have to keep on top of it, that said it was easier than I thought and comes up looking like a proper job. Fair play 👍😎
@@Motourev Morning, I think they make a decent used buy as from what I know depreciation is quite severe on them, I think the last model 800 is beautiful, maybe Honda should have made that a 1000cc model? I used harpic on my bike and bought it from a pound shop, my mate said it was too expensive for him!! lol.
I normally apply mine with a paint brush. Pour some in a tub, paint on leave 10 mins then rinse off with water. Magic :)
Great tip Craig. It brought the shine back to the downpipes. I couldn't believe the amount of rust/crud that had found a home under the bash plate.
I don’t own a bike but I’ve used this on my 2nd hand cat back exhaust for my Honda and it looks brand new 🙏🏼 thanks for the video
Thanks for the tip, I will try to clean old honda. I just guess maybe is a good idea to afterwards flush with baking soda mixture to neutralise acid
I cant believe it works bro thank u for ur valuable information🙏🏻 from india..!!

Thank you - I’ll be doing this on my x crossrunner in the coming weeks
Currently doing this to my vfr... found the perfect video🤣cheers👌

HydroChloric acid is the thing that does it. Also known by brick acid and muratic acid.
Thanks for the info, didn’t realise it was the same as brick acid
Awesome DIY. Well deserved a sub. How long did the shine last before the rust creeps back in?
Hybernating Bear Music cheers mate, 3 months and still no rust so far did it on my old Fireblade and normally did once a year
Lime a way is the American version
Tesco have it in Ireland 👍🏻 🇮🇪

Isn't the VFR a lovely thing (for a Honda!! lol) makes you wonder how they got the 1200 so wrong
I’ve been contemplating the 1200 but it didn’t seem very popular. Every owner I’ve spoken to said it was great, very confusing.

If the exhaust is off and in bits you can stick it in the toilet, pour Harpic 10X over it, leave for 20mins before giving it a flush rinsing..
