Tbh he did have his moments where he was useful to the team and fought along side them, macao isnt that powerful himself so it isnt really a big surprise nor did they build romeo up to be a powerful character. So its not like they wasted him. Sure would be cool to have him have a mini fight of his own though.
@@thatanimegirlwiththecape4807 The filler of the infinity clock doesn't count. They should've had a mini arc with him as the protagonist before the main cast return. And him not having any build up for power doesn't matter. When Wendy was introduced she didn't even know any attack spell but one arc later she was on par with Natsu. Lemme not get to Charle.
@@gallenberger1 I think that they tried to do that but the did it in one episode making it feel to quick like most things in the anime they where more likely staggered with their budget but for what fairy tail is the did a descent job but if it had a bigger budget it would have been able to mostly encapsulate the manga into a anime.
@@TuffJuff it's not as easy as it seems tho... I remember once trying to write a different ending and how the story continue differently after the time skip and it was a hell... Ik mashima is more skilled but still, it's really hard. If only mangakas could work together 🥲
@@WuhabooYeah but what the OP is implying is that you shouldnt just jump the gun with a big change of route and plan it out from there. You should really think out your possible new ending and the route to that ending before changing anything, otherwise stuff will start coming out of ur a**. It is hard and thats precisely why proper time and thought should go into it before anything else is done.
@@zeromagnum2811 jjk is nothing compared to others lol ( go watch akame ga kill as a start) beside he is right like Makarov death and lissana and many other were pointless and the whole point of having many characters on the show is to kill some of them... Now if there is a big fight or anything on 100yearsquest idgf about my fav character in for sure no one will die 😂
biggest mistake in my opinion was bringing Makarov back to life. completely ruined his speech and sacrifice. his death could of been legendary but instead they quickly copped out of it
To many build ups for death in the series, that didn't pay off; You fool me with Wendy and Charle, with Gajeel was already skeptical, by the time it was Makarov's turn I simply was calling the bluff.
Agreed, even for just a few episodes of Romeo being the main protagonist would've been awesome. Even when the Main Characters came back, I was hoping he would be a part of Team Natsu and play a huge role in the next arcs.
@@gallenberger1 yeah, or better yet it would make a compelling back story too, as to why the guild still exists. He was the heart that binds the remaining members together, like how Natsu was. NGL, when he was given the spotlight in that Key if the Starry Heavens Arc I was hoping to see him and Natsu teaming up more. Him finally showing improvements and a bit of potential of what he can become when guided by powerhouses.
Loved the video man and i agree with it being rushed but lowkey it being rushed made me like the timeskip even more , since fairy tail had always done an amazing job making u feel like part of the guild and it made me feel like i missed out on those seven years too. I personally loved how it felt when we came back to "our guild" after what didnt feel like long (since it was only 1 episode) to see how far our "home" fell without us. And To me that made the moment in the grand magic games where nastu said that they didn't care about the money or fam that they were only their to make up for their friends who had to suffer without them hit so much harder, which was my favorite moment in the show lol
It worked as is because like you said FT is amazing at emotions, but it would've been cooler for me to see it extended. You could even add the Rise of Sabretooth as well.
@gallenberger1 the rise of sabertooth would be fuckin amazing and it would have been cool to see new development for side characters but lowkey at the minimum a side character should have at least been promoted like max he's the coolest
Honestly, I avoided this video at first when it appeared in my recommended. I figured it would be another angry rant about how FT is so bad and the ending is awful(it's not perfect, but I enjoyed it). But after watching your Erza video I decided to watch this one and I'm glad I did. I've always been pretty conflicted about the 7 year timeskip. I thought the idea was super cool, but didnt want to entirely lose the main cast. Honestly a short arc like this would've been Perfect! The only part of your breakdown I would change is Jude's death being mentioned. I really like the way Lucy and the audience itself finds out. Otherwise though, I really wish we got more of Romeo/Laki/Kinana/Max/etc. They definitely fell to the way side during the final arcs, but the timeskip was a really impactful time for all of them.
Glad you gave it a chance! The title is certainly exaggerated for effect, but I love Fairy Tail and have no desire to tear it to shreds. I do think this was a missed opportunity though. Fair point on Jude
There's this one fanfic called Tale of the Sky Maiden, where Wendy survives the events of Tenrou island and escapes. And it's rough. She has multiple chapters of just being scared, believing all her friends are dead. And then, she has to make do, and the guild rallies around her as the all try to not flounder in the gap left by the core members. Max is a main character. Mest is a main character. Jellal and Melody join Fairy Tail and work their butts off to help.
There's also fairy tail the fourth master Natsu doesn't go to to the s class trials and ends up as well the fourth master A day before the S-Class trials, Natsu was tasked to complete a certain mission that will take a long time, making him give up his position as one of the candidates When he returned, he found out that the Tenrou Island, along with al his friends there, has disappeared How will the son of the Fire Dragon King deal with this situation?
Moments like this is a testament to how Fairy Tail’s narrative potential is being held back by not allowing Major character deaths. It’s literally the Polar opposite of Attack on Titans. I will never get over Makarov not having an impactful death.
@@gallenberger1 Nice, also yeah i would say stakes is Fairy Tail’s biggest flaw. There aren’t really any risks with impact. Though i get some people may like it that way.
For me the biggest waste was Erza becoming Guildmaster instead of Laxus , that was his whole arc , learning to become someone worthy of being Guildmaster , Makarov having a good death and finally recognizing Laxus passing on the title as a final scene and Laxus doubting himself worthy only to have Erza , Mira and Levy reassure him would have been so epic
The problem with Mashima's writing style is that he sets up big turning points but never has the ball to follow up with them. Makarov had three death stances but he didn't die even at the end; the seven years time skip had no mechanical change for the narrative other than breaking the 7 years gap between the time the dragons disappeared on the 7th of July, now making it 4000 years ruining the symbology he had going for years; he backtracked on Dragon Slayers killing their own dragons; he backtracked on the fairy talking to Igneel inside a volcano; he backtracked on villains being evil and just switching sides in their next appearance with little to no valid reasoning; he backtracked on Zeref being a good guy with a death curse; he backtracked on Acnologia looking for something in Tenrou Island, and a lot more. He even inserted time travel so he could backtrack on the deaths during the dragon invasion after the tournament arc, an his next story, Eden's Zero, he made the female protagonist have the power to retcon his story whenever he feels like it with her time travelling powers! Not to mention he loves repeating previous plot points, like Edolas and the other guild having Fairy Tail members with switched personalities, reutilizing character designs in his next work (and backtracking on the Erza-look-alike being evil), the aforementioned Makarov death flags, etc. He even makes Enden's Zero mock the power of friendship trope, only to fill it with power of friendship overcomes murderous psychopath yet again! Mashima has a great sense of world building and great character designs, but goddammit, does he fail at writing time and time again, mainly because he either doesn't commit or commit too hard!
@@epictronologs1793 That would have made sense if we hadn't seen him being good and unwilling to kill in his first appearance. The guy had presumably been like that for what, 4 thousand years (including the Fairy Tail Zero spin-off), why is it that it took the seven years for him to become actually evil? And why is he the king of an entire nation!?
My theory is that mashima is being restricted lol cause he has all these ideas but it always feel like all of them are contained in a box to fit the shonen genre
In all honesty, I am very happy this video is made by not just a content creator but a fellow fan of the series, everything pointed out in this video was spot on, the fairy tail guild has a cast of characters that has massive potential, they just fall short due to the lack of attention they are given, which is why even when things like guild wars are brought up, its mostly just the main 10-12 people struggling while the rest of the guild is kind of there as background character, this one proposed arc of 10-12 eps could have honestly fixed that and shown us how capable they all really are individually
This video actually provided a great idea and allowed the side cast to get more attnetion Edit: The last arc had so much potential too but stuff like one shotting god serena , makarov coming back, and acnologia getting power of friendship'd was terrible
I can't lie for the first minute or so I was doubting your idea heavy because I love Fairy Tail and I love the post timeskip tournament arc, but after hearing you out I must say I agree strongly. At first I was worried that you actually wanted the series to kill off all it's main characters , but I was able to understand way better when it became clear that you didn't want the main characters to stay dead, you just wanted to see what happened when everybody thought they were dead, and when you put it like that I actually couldn't agree more. One of the most interesting things about Fairy Tail is its ability to have such an expansive cast but still have each character have their own distinct pesonalities, which is why it's such a shame that there simply isn't enough time given to all the side characters of the guild. Whilst an impressive number guild members are able to get their own moment at some point, not all of them get to be fully fleshed out which leads to a lot of them becoming forgettable, so getting a full arc where all the most prominent characters are gone so we can just focus on the rest of the Guild actually would have been amazing. What's more is that, if my memory serves correctly, you didn't even add any new plot points, every idea and moment you expressed was something Hiro Mashima had already written in the story, all you wanted was for us to actually get to see and feel it happen in real time so we can get invested in it rather than have it all dropped on us at once, which I think is a good idea. Kudos for the idea bro
This is actually a great idea! And then in the gmg arc where there fighting to compansate for not being there all this years would have hit harder (it still hit hard but you get it) if we actually spend more time seeing what the rest of the guild went through.
Something i hate about people critizising ft is that they dont go into detail, they just go "ft trash cause uhh pof and fanservice" but never actually say whats wrong and how would you improve it but anyways loved the video man keep it up 😊
this would've actually worked so well, but ik at the time, mashima was just working to make it to the deadlines which is why a lot of the moments in fairy tail's story run flat. If he had more time to actually develop the story better I'm sure the time skip era would've lasted longer and would've been much better
As you mention Kinana being the first to notice the guild is falling apart, I thought, "And, and start to explain where the heck she came from. When did she become part of the guild? I had never seen her before the timeskip episode."
@@gallenberger1 You're right, she is. She is the purple snake. But she did not appear as a human in any episodes before this one. I learned that she was the snake when the Oracion Seis returned. But then I still asked, "When did she join Fairy Tail?"
The idea is good, my only problem is that the only characters that are still in the guild at that moment are the lame ones. 12 episodes of our favorite guild getting bullied is way too long.
I think that's why the idea was needed. Currently we view them as lame. But if they were given more depth and something to do here, maybe we wouldn't see them that way.
I think their designs are too generic to work, though this would be a better timeskip version even if it lasted only one episode. 12 episodes of the boring side characters would kill mainstream interest in the series. They COULD make a whole season focused on other guilds at that time though, or introduce more new characters to FT to make it work:
This is actually so good! The only thing I would’ve added was maybe a couple of our favorite friends of other guilds got some spotlight and helped them out through all this too, deepening their connection with those guilds as well.
I like this idea a lot but I don't think I or many others would've been able to sit through a full arc of these side characters. I think a 7-10 ep arc at most would work really well without the fans not missing the main characters too much
I have to admit- at first I COMPLETELY disagreed with you/ but you convinced me. it would have made the pain we felt in the grand magic games arc so much deeper and well earned, though i would have given it around 2 to 6 ep. I think to keep thus up for 10 ep would be tiring
The Tenrou Island moment was big, almost cried! I liked when the main cast was back again, BUT they should have waited more to that so we can learn what really happened and see other characters screen time
Absolutely fantastic video, these are thoughts i've had myself. Since i love FT i also recognize how much greater it could've been if Mashima played his cards more tactfully, glad to see i wasn't the only one.
God id love that!!! Romeo has long since been one of my favorite background characters, and this would also be just, in general, a really good chance to make us love the rest of the guild even more!
I love Fairy Tail, but I think one of the biggest problem with Fairy Tail is its focus on its protagonists. And it can't even do _that_ right! For our 4 main characters, later 5 when Wendy is included, + Happy, only 3 get substantial screen time: Natsu, Lucy, and Erza. Wendy has a fair amount of screen time, but she's required since 1. She's a girl in a fanservice-heavy show, and 2. She's a healer, a staple in combat scenes. Gray and Happy get barely anything, but Happy does have scenes but he ends up being like modern Tails in Sonic games where all Happy does is scream Natsu's name and tells other people he believes in him. But Gray? He has nothing. Heck, there isn't even an opening where he's featured for like at least 20% of it. Also, whenever fighting some big character that requires some character growth, Gray's opponents always brings it back to Ur (the only outlier i can think of is the ice wizard from the Alvarez arc). There is nothing new to be given to him as many of the opponents he fights in the villain group are very minor. Gray also has a lot of moments with Erza that could have made them a more dynamic duo in earlier arcs. Or even with Juvia now joined, Erza could still be the one person Gray could be vulnerable with and Gray would be the one person Erza could be vulnerable with, this is until he learns to be more open in the form of eventually reciprocating Juvia's feelings. His demon slaying magic is also barely used. Not even in cmbat against non-demons, which sucks because it means his super *cool* power-up that now made him a proper badass was just nothing (They also cut his fight against one of the Tartaros minor villains to replace it with Laxus fighting instead in the anime). And you would think Gray would play a massive role against Mard Geer, yet he was the one who gets knocked down first. Yes. I am bias towards Gray, no, I am not sorry, he is treated like crap. I mean, come on, a filler arc that was _supposed_ to feature him more was the DAPHNE ARC Edit: now that i think about it, they made a good fight for him in the FILLER arc Key of the starry smth smth. Where he fights Sorano (Angel) where she uses magic that would kill her as that is her wish and Gray, mr. Iced shell, was having none of that
WENDY is requried for fan service????? she is a LITERAL CHILD she is def not there for fan service. They already have erza and lucy for that. and her scenes aren't even fan service. happy....doesn't fight. he's a comic relief character more then anything. and gray has had plenty of important moments. imo fairytails biggest problem is the ending, the 7 year timeskip And the power friendship stuff. should gray be more major? yes but its not like he's shafted. he has had plenty of important fights and plenty of important moments. he even has good character. im genuinely confused on how gray has nothing. i do wish he was more relevant in grand magic games but other that he was fine for me
@@MythicAce218 okay, I will adress the Wnedy is not really for fan service. But also, you can't deny fairy tail will give a female character at the very least one fan service moment. Happy doesn't fight, yes, but his initial role was Natsu's flying partner. Happy flies Natsu around to help him fignt or at least carry him frkm danger. I don't mind he's not in more fights as he can't defend himself other than retreating, but still. I mean, in the Lullaby arc, Natsu fallas and Happy just stands there. Only for Natsu to go Human Torch and fly with flames. Lastly, Gray, yes, he is important, but rarely. He's only important since he's part of the mc team. He was supposed to be Natsu's equal yet, Gajeel became Natsu's rival, Gray loses the main villain's lackey (i think it was bixlow he fought. While Natsu was holding up well agaimst Laxus for a short while. And Gray lost because there was a child watching, they could most certainly just not have someone Gray would be distracted with to lose). Well, there's the Juvia fight, sk thst's plus many points Gray fought with the armor guy on Edolas? It wasn't a fight but it was actuslly a fun watch. He fought against the speedster in the oracion seis arc. Every enemy in that arc is obviously a threat, but it's still less points and he doesn't get kuch from it (unlike Lucy who earns one or two celestial keys) Gray fought the guy who possessed that celestial spirit ig... Gray's dynamics with the other has been reduced ever since Juvia joined the guild. Like I said, there's nothing wrong with Juvia, but he loses his dynamic with Erza Gray was the kne equipped to fight mard geer, and he got downed first. Okay, at this point, I think it's best we just agree to disagree. I ain't rewatching the entirety of fairy tail to show more fights
@enigmatic2878 honestly respect for that last part. Not many people understand that people can disagree with you and you can still be chill and have fair takes. 1. Now i agree here. I didn't mention erza and lucy for a reason(tho they have more going for them then fan service) Wendy can't be there for that reason. Because she is Quite literally a child. She's not even a teen. As for the gray stuff. Natsu is rivals with both of them. Gajeel and the dragon slaying sense amd gray in the fire amd ice sense. Most of his fights were enjoyable and his losses(even the one with the kid) made sense. Now happy is where I'm confsued more then anything. Since by late seasons happy no longer needs to fly around him or fly him away from danger. This feels like a personal nitpick rather then a genuine issue. And as long as ypu admit that I don't see a reason to argue here. Since it's a personal problem and not one I feel needs arguing
I totally agree on that one, it would've been a good idea, even more, it could help us focus a bit more on the side characters of the guild and maybe like them a bit. Instead of almost forgetting even their names because of how little screen time they have, basically, just extra characters. I'll put Black Clover in comparison because they share a similar system (magic knight squads), while the Black Bulls have way less members than Fairy Tail, Tabata was still able to give them enough screen time to learn more about them and like them, it's not just Asta, Yami and Noelle. They all have their moments, even Gordon.
The Biggest mistakes was Igneel getting killed, the other dragons being too lazy to help him and Natsu not going full Dragon Mode against Acnologia in the final fight. Like, imagine, Democis Fire Dragon. Edit: yea, Tenrous Island was a bit of an iffy thing. It feels as if an entire Arc was skipped. Knowing how some Mangaka's are forces to "go faster" by the higher ups, I would not be surprised if that was the case.
I would make two small adjustments: make it more like a mini-arc (5-6 episodes) b/c 10-12 episodes might feel a little excessive, and make it so that all this development carries on to the rest of the show. I'd love to see Romeo become a real protege to Natsu, and Max have more awesome battles since he's improved so much.
Also while I never thought about that Kinana is shown to be the reincarnated Erics Serpent. So making her more of a developped character would leave the door open to explore that aspect .
I also feel like Romeo as a character is a huuuge missed opportunity, they way they showed him at the end made it seem like he'd be asort of main character, or key character, but they barely used him, even in 100 years quest, its almost like they've completely threw him away, its tragic.
I actually would love to see that in the actual anime. I only saw that in one fanfic which wasn’t as bad since it was canon divergent since it has a oc. Like that the oc pulled a lot where had other characters added to fairy tail rooster to not have fairy tail on complete defensive but still defensive.
I came into this video thinking that I would disagree with it completely. I actually agree and would've loved to see more of a story about the remains of Fairy Tail and how the seven years impacted them. Thank you so much for making this video! I just subbed.
I full heartedly agree with this. If fairy tail had done this, the comeback of the guilds main force would have been so heavily loved. would have taken the anime to literal Stardom.
The time i dropped fairy tail was when i realized that Natsu and Lucy will never be officially together, but their relationship will just stagnate for the whole show. It was not the biggest deal breaker but i realized that the same goes for a lot of other ideas that the show had. It pissed me off so much, because the show had soooo many great buildups for character development or some general grow, but in the end it was just always “saved” by the power of friendship. My last hope was Natsu x Lucy but when that failed i knew it was not wort my time
I know it would be strange but I read a fan made story where Wendy, glanced up and froze up and didn’t make it into the fairy sphere spell and got blasted off the island. So she had to go through the 7 year skip thinking her friends were gone and follows her story to get stronger and deal with that guilt.
Ahhh I regret watching this video because now I wished this is what the story was. Because then it feels like there is more reason to care about why the group regrets missing the 7 years so much. Instead of being told that the 7 years was hard. We actually get to see it. Although I wouldn’t have the background talks of Lucy’s dad’s death. Because otherwise it just makes that episode of her searching for him a bit obsolete
The moment in all of Anime I think could have been the most impactful if they had decided to make it real instead of reversing what happened was, "His name was Vegeta... a proud Saiyan Prince." Vegeta asks Piccolo if he'll get to come back like Goku, and Piccolo doesn't sugarcoat it, he tells him no. I think if that had been the final act of Vegeta (also that it actually was the thing to permanently defeat Majin Buu, so they might have had to move it around in the timeline a bit), it would have been a masterpiece moment.
I really liked the direction you went with this. I’m kind of curious on how you would redo the whole END and Zeref storyline. They had so much potential, just for it to be squandered.
honestly this was such a great idea as not only it would make the comeback of the maincast more plot twisty and exciting it really gives time and moments to side characters that dont get much attention
I really wish they had shown how the guild slowly lose their place as the No.1 Guild after all the main members disappear and how the guild cope with it and how they had to move, maybe use Romeo more like to flesh out his character during this as like a Believer in Fairy Tail ideals with the Never Give Up shonen attitude, with him training and flashbacking to his interaction with the main cast off screen so that when the 7 year time-skip happened we wouldn't be confused like why does this kid who barely interacted with the main cast now sits at the Pear every morning mourning them. Granted we did see a little bit (and I mean miniscule level) of that when Mashima showed that he still believe and have faith that The Main cast was alive and will return. This also would flesh out other "Side Characters" by putting them in the spot-like more like- Macao handling being master Alzack & Bisca essentially being the strongets members Kinana Past heck even doranbolt/mest, like how did he slowly lose himself to depression and leaving the knights, how the magic council reacted to fairy tail losing its members, the guild alliance reaction and helping Fairy Tail search for their friends, HECK how did Lyon react to hearing gray's death and knowing that he's the last of Ur's legacy. So many plot points that could have been explored if Mashima took a risk and continue the story after the Main Cast supposed "death" like nothing happen and what followed after. Sure it would have made fans mad that he essentially "Killed Off" the main cast but that would have made them returning 7 years later even more HYPE. The manga/anime didn't have any risk cause we know next Chapter/Episode they'll be back.
Fairy Tails biggest mistake for me was the final seasons plot, it was too cramped with stuff and could have been drawn out way better. Also I hated how basically the most important chracter of the entire Fairy Tail plot line was just OFF'ed. I'm talking about Irene Belserion, she was the creator of the Dragon slayer magic and without her nothing of this was going to happen. I wished for her to stay alive and just move across the continent in search of a solution to her issue. It could have been a great arc if the fight against Alvarez was one arc then them traveling with Irene across the country and finding a solution as its own arc and then finaly lastly the final arc, the battle against Achnologia.
That's such a common pattern with FT. They can make things more impactful by showing more struggle with all of these side characters, who I've already forgotten. Instead of everything working out by Natsu's power at the end, they could have made other characters come forward. Fight with Acnologia was hard to watch because of that reason. He was supposed to be nearly unbeatable and at the end, it took just one fight. Lucy's character development could have been so much better as well. I wished Mashima took her journey further and make her more ambitious, struggling to become more powerful because of frustration from being weaker than others in her team.
FT has really great arcs, Grand Magic Games and Tartaros arc are amazing! Tartaros was the most powerful IMO since there was so much loss of the loved ones and coping with that involved. Mashima could have made important changes after that as well. Though it is overall a really great anime! Still one of my favorites
Personally, Grand Magic Games is my favorite. One of the best tournament arcs ever. I think we're on the same page about what's great and what could be better.
The side character thing is actually a common issue in a bunch of anime like Naruto and maybe Bleach. Although you could argue Naruto’s side characters actually get better screen time in filler arcs but majority skip those.
@@gallenberger1Slight correction, they didn’t accept their fate to die, they pooled all their power into Fried to make a strong enough barrier to protect them, hoping they’ll make out alive. Mavis then used that power to form her even stronger barrier.
I disagree, you need to think about who was the fanbase back then, it was all teenagers. I remember when the episode came out that they "died" and i was furious, and even though it was one episode when they came back it was such a sign of relief. going more than one episode could of caused too much anger within the community and hurt the show more than you think. Plus! it doesn't defeat the whole purpose, the purpose of they disappearing and reappearing was was introduce Mavis! Thats is, it doesn't have to be that deep, and the only reason watchers were interested in fairy tail zero even though it didn't have have main cast is because there is rich context to it "how fairy tail was founded" that alone was enough to spark interest and attention. A whole season on the side characters would of just negatively impacted the show and I think their decision to do it this way accomplished the objective of introducing mavis effectively and setting the time gap and strength gap for the following arcs.
You have to think even as teenagers we know the show wouldn’t completely end there if they’re still making episodes. I wouldn’t have made it s full season cause it would definitely be boring but 4-5 episodes would be fine
allegedly, fairy tail author can't comprehend making anime adaptation without a gag in every single epsiodes, i mean the way i look at fairy tail is like... the franchise that's confused either they have to focus on the gag or the story
The problem wasn't really the showwriters in this case because they were actually following the manga. This idea would have been awesome and would have added an interesting element to the show that would have made it different from the books (in a good way).
For me the BIGGEST issue I have with this anime is there’s only like a couple characters in the guild we know. Like if u look at the whole guild you’ll see a lot of characters that honestly just feel like strangers or randos. Laxus had depth to him BUT HE HAS A WHOLE TEAM WE KNOW NOTHING ABT. Same with levy’s trio I rlly don’t like their dynamic it’s rlly boring that Troy and Bolt just both like her I wish they had more of a family dynamic but I mean even that could work if there was more to it then some stupid lovey trope. It’s not like they need a whole backstory, ROMEO IS A KID AND IS PERFECT CUZ HE DOESNT NEED A BACKSTORY showing him improving and him looking up to nastu is a rlly cool concept but they did nothing with it. My point is lot of the guild memebers don’t have much depth to them and I rlly wish they did especially since the guild is pretty much found family. 😭😭😭
I love this idea. I would also throw in at least one episode dedicated to Alzack and Bisca too. Alzack showed in Fantasia that he was the probably the strongest member of the guild that wasn’t on Tenrou. We can assume Bisca is just as strong given they’re a duo and Bisca got to be part of a Sprigan fight later on. I think them having their own episode would be super important in here. I imagine up until everyone else gets it together, they’d be carrying the guild the most with jobs because they’d still have each other at least. They’d still have hope and a future even without everyone’s return. I do think giving them an episode to realize that and work through their grief together would be really great though, probably ending it with Bisca’s proposal. I do think apart from this critical missing arc, Fairy Tail has a few other struggles too. The biggest is the lack of attention the ensemble gets at times in favour of specifically Natsu. The biggest of these I would say happens in Tower of Heaven, Tenrou Island, S Class Trials, and by far Alvarez Empire. There’s a lot of fights between those arcs where other characters who should’ve had some more spotlight get sidelined in favour of him. Your arc idea is brilliant for helping alleviate this problem but I think it needs some more sprinkling around. Erza and Natsu both beating Jellal istrad of him taking over the fight, Natsu learning his lesson from Gildarts and actually backing down against Hades and giving Laxus the whole fight, the Spriggans being more evenly distributed so everyone gets a full fight. Mirajane and Elfman did basically nothing that arc. Changes like that were needed too. Fairy Tail has all the building blocks to be one of the all time greats with Hunter x Hunter, One Piece, Bleach, and Naruto but it just fell short. It just needed some small changes that would’ve had a huge impact on the story.
I like almost all of this! My only addition: i think it might actually be better if the non tenrou group tell the tenrou group not to interfere when they arrive so the non tenrou group can fight to victory with their own resolve, something the tenrou group respects with zero signs of doubt that their guildmates will win, regardless of how beaten and weak they look And the remaining non tenrou group members dig deep like the main group does every arc and win against all odds so the guild can come together as a whole again all as equals
I havent watched the video fully yet but ima just say I like the fact they weren't all wiped out on Tenrou but I do think there should've maybe been a couple episodes of the remaining guild members still searching for them years later hoping they didnt actually die before they returned, then a couple episodes of them tryna get back into the swing of things and reacting properly to how much has actually changed. Edit: you did an amazing job with this video. Thats exactly how it should've gone.
In my case I would done something else, the group where still attacked by Acnologia, but a few still survived. Most of them would be wounded and affected by the event, and part of the cast leave forever. Done, you get good drama and change the status quo, and the story progress in another way.
Dude this would be awesome, incredibly emotional, and wouldn't change anything in the story even if it was done now! Mashima could release something called "fairy tail: the lost episodes" showing all of their stories within that 7 year time skip.
See doing the time skip in the main line series would be a mistake because for most they tune in and follow for the main group.. Now what they could do. Is take this idea you have and make it into a spin off (As you mentioned Zero) Which was a spin off for those deeply invested Fairy Tail Fans. It would be a hit. Same thing with the people who have called for a "future Fairy Tail" following the kids of the series growth.
Personally, I would make the remaining members have a more even fight against Twilight Orge with them relying more on tactical fighting to gain as much of the upper hand as the can get. Then at the end the main cast comes back, but acting more as support while the remaining guild members take the lead. Having the remaining guild members almost get wiped out until the main cast arrives just makes them look so incompetent, useless and overall makes them seem like they're absolutely nothing without the main cast. Like they can't do anything without the main cast there to hold their hand. In my opinion at least. They should grieve, they should devolve from their grief, but they should also evolve, grow beyond that and become even better then they were before.
They should have had a whole season about them all getting separated and then they have an adventure to get the team back together but no just 7 year time skip and then they just show up and it’s dumb and frustrating, even though I haven’t watched the anime
First, they didn’t accept their fate to die, they were pooling their power together to form a strong enough barrier. Mavis used that power to form her stronger barrier. 2nd, even though they returned, they missed out on a lot, like Lucy’s dad died before the chance to make amends.
Thanks for the correction on the pooling their power together! I did bring up Lucy's father in the video. I think dragging it out enhances the experience.
@@gallenberger1 I agree the side characters don’t get much which is an issue with a bunch anime with a lot of characters. The Key of the Starry Heavens arc did give them more active screen time at least, but not as emotional as you put it.
@@gallenberger1 one thing I would also add is moments of Kinana being confused over hearing Cobra’s voice for the past 7 years. Which the anime foreshadowed for when they meet in the Starry Heavens arc.
Fairy Tail is one of my favorite anime with countless amazing moments. But it also had valid complaints against it, and they dropped the ball with this arc...the followed it up with the best one somehow.
This idea is a great change, but the only thing I would add is to bring one of the heavy fighters from the island back, but just one or two of them and not an army-soloing powerhouse like Natsu or Gildarts. Whoever comes back is either certain everyone else is dead or has no recollection of how they got back. This keeps the uncertainty of their fates intact, gives the remaining Fairy Tale members the slight hope and push they've needed, as well as giving them a strong fighter to not go on the offensive but at least be able to keep rival guilds and debt collectors away, allowing the other side characters chances to fight, grow and look for their friends.
The problem with this is that none of those characters is relevant after the main cast comes back so wasting 12 episodes on them is not worth it. It worked with Maevis flashback because you got exposure to some of the most important characters in the series, including Zeref.
I got two issues with this. 1. From the scenario you gave, I don't think it would be able to reach 12 episodes. More like 8. 2. I feel like for us to really connect with the characters, they would have to be given more screentime beforehand. As before this arc, they probably had 5 minutes of total screentime for each character. If we were to go with this scenario, then I would recommend having a total of 12-24 minutes of screentime with each character. The only ones that filled this requirement in my opinion were Reedus, Wakaba, Macao, and maybe Romeo. Nab is an exception though, as he feels like he could only belong in your scenario and not really beforehand.
In my opinion, Fairy Tail is one of the most character focused shows because it's all about Family. If they had killed off the main cast most people would just drop the show. I do agree with your point that it should of taken longer for the main cast to be reintroduced into the story. Then they are immediately given a power boost that makes them stronger than all of their peers even after 7 years. I love Fairy Tail, but the way they always end up winning doesn't make sense with the story. It just feels like plot armor. "Power of Friendship"
I was listening and thought it was cool but when you said “Nab takes on a job” DUDE that grabbed my attention. Not only that but for him to FAIL wild… Also if we saw the background members of the guild slowly leave that would add to everything else you said. Love this idea. If we had 12 - 20 episodes of Fairy Tail in the 7 years that the Tenrou team was gone it would not only give us more time to see the members we don’t really focus on and their growth and development AND it would also make the Tenrou team coming back hit so much harder. Love it!
To be fair I do like what they did with the time skip and everything, but you're right This would be a nice opportunity to explore some of these characters, and it would be hype as hell too Can't say I like this specific plot of yours though; well written and has focus on the characters but the overall situation isn't that interesting
Others in the comments have brought up some cool ideas like but some focus on the rise of Sabretooth, or have Lisanna stay behind and focus on her POV as the one dealing with loss.
Yeah, that would have been pretty epic. They could have definitely added something like that in the anime at least instead of the filler arcs we got after they came back. Also, if she'd stayed back instead of going with Juvia, it would have been a good opportunity to get to know Lisanna more and actually do stuff with her. If she'd stayed behind - along with probably one other member of Team Tenrou since I don't see anyone else going with Juvia like that - we could have seen a kind of reversal of her situation with her siblings where she's the one mourning them, not knowing they're alive out there. We could see how she copes with the situation when she doesn't have replacement siblings to help her through the trauma of the loss and maybe explore a bit of how she grieved in Edolas and any unhealthy habits that brought up. This would be a bit more of a change I know, but I really wanna see Lidsnna used for something.

@@justme22154 That would've been amazing. I wish I thought of that! Lisanna in mourning would be so impactful, it would given her something to do that matters, and given the cast a more recognizable figure around. Love that idea
I genuinely think the idea u gave would’ve made fairy tale 10x better than it already is, having the old cast come back (would prefer a couple deaths tbh) would’ve been amazing not only would it ruin the argument of fairy tale doesn’t kill anyone off it would’ve made for a better emotional scene in the anime itself
Mashima is good at the overall buildup for a story and characters but sucks at the subsequent execution. That Romeo is wasted potential isn't the biggest issue imo. I think the problem got the worst in Alvarez Empire arc, where Spriggan 12 was portrayed as the most dangerous opponents they had ever seen but somehow the entire Fairy Tail (at least for main characters) survived the invasion and Spriggan 12 was defeated. Too many fake death (especially Makarov and Gajeel) is what annoys me the most. That protagonists could get away with these without heavy loss is just...bland and not compelling because you wouldn't worry about them if you knew they would all survive.
Miura definitely had the balls to make the readers fall in love with The Band of The Hawk………….only to BRUTALLY rip them away from us permanently near the end of the show. I mean it’s fucking brilliant, but I couldn’t even pick up a single book after those chapters for a whole week. I know these two works are from entirely different genres, but it’s still a damn good example.
Although while not a full season I would agree like 1-5 episodes in between would be probably fun to see. Personally I think Mashima only did a time skip because time skips are just that popular now and he’s always one to experiment with ideas. I mean in dbz, gohan went from icing Cell and then is now 16~ in highschool being a goober.
I like it but I would have also liked to see some of the other guilds/people who were indebted to Fairy Tail actually help for a while. Like they all help with the search at first, but then when no one is found they offer to take the remaining members into their own guild. But at that point the remaining FT members are so disgusted at the fact that they’re giving up the search that they turn down the offer, as well as any future help. Also would have liked a higher cost on the main team. Instead of a shield from Mavis, they should have pooled their collective mana together and shielded themselves, but we’re severely injured and near death. They’re at the bottom of the ocean as it washes back over them. At THAT point Mavis puts them in suspended animation at the bottom of the ocean, doing her best to heal them and replenish their mana. When they finally come to, some of the members have permanent injuries, and they’re all significantly weaker wizards. They have to build themselves back up and learn to compensate for their injuries.
As a kid, my parents were generally reluctant to let me watch anime, except for the maimstream ones like dragon ball and pokemon. When fairy tail aired on animax, it was one of the few animes they allowed me to watch. They thought that the general theme of friendship, loyalty and sincerity would be good for me. But around the tenrou island arc, they suddenly forbade me from watching it anymore. I never knew why back then. But now that I think about it, I can't help but laugh about it 😂😂
The story was always working towards Natsu and his relationship with Zeref, who was introduced that arc. It wouldn’t have made any sense to kill Natsu and the other main characters like that… Where would the story have even gone from there with all the important characters dead? I don’t disagree that there could have been more time before Mavis brought them back, but Mishima still did a good job with the story/arc.
😂 you re just describing EXACTLY what happened, just changing few things and taking WAY too much time to show it. Mashima's way was already really efficient and didnt lose the viewer into 12 episodes of grief and anger of 2nd plan characters. You dont fix something that dont need to be.. And yes ft zero took so much time because it needed to. That was the origin of fairy tail not just "deaths"
The goal was to try and keep it consistent with canon (outside of Reedus) but I definitely could have gone further and added the rise of Sabretooth and given more depth for characters on a per episode basis.
This is brilliant. FT is the first and only long running shounen I’ve watched all the way thru, much less rewatched multiple times. It says a lot that I can imagine the arc you described and enjoy it almost as much as I would have if it had been animated for real. I see from some of the other comments that there are many who would have been unhappy with a lengthy diversion from the main cast. So maybe a 3 or 4 episode OVA would have been a more widely acceptable presentation. Too bad we don’t see as much of that sort of thing these days. Between FT and Slime, I would really like to see more side stories with the broader cast where the fate of the world was not at stake. Developing a richer world and filling it with more characters is all for the better in my opinion.
i also dislike how much they hyped up max by making him almost as strong as natsu as he literally pushed natsu to the brink forcing him to go lightning mode just to beat him in a sparring match, and romeo by him learning fire magic and inheriting natsus style only for them to be completely useless later in the story and almost never be brought up again, huge missed opportunity, they could have been great characters
Agreed. I understand the critique that focusing on the boring side characters would be tough, but they are boring because we don't know anything or care about them. If we gave them depth and moments of value, we wouldn't see them as boring, and that's what my aim was here.
Romeo is such a wild character. The fact that he didn't even have a single fight it's just unbelievable
Tbh he did have his moments where he was useful to the team and fought along side them, macao isnt that powerful himself so it isnt really a big surprise nor did they build romeo up to be a powerful character. So its not like they wasted him. Sure would be cool to have him have a mini fight of his own though.
@@thatanimegirlwiththecape4807
The filler of the infinity clock doesn't count. They should've had a mini arc with him as the protagonist before the main cast return.
And him not having any build up for power doesn't matter. When Wendy was introduced she didn't even know any attack spell but one arc later she was on par with Natsu. Lemme not get to Charle.

Wasn't aware of that. That's cool
There's also fairy tail the fourth master
Natsu doesn't go to to the s class trials and ends up as well the fourth master
A day before the S-Class trials, Natsu was tasked to complete a certain mission that will take a long time, making him give up his position as one of the candidates
When he returned, he found out that the Tenrou Island, along with al his friends there, has disappeared
How will the son of the Fire Dragon King deal with this situation?
Moments like this is a testament to how Fairy Tail’s narrative potential is being held back by not allowing Major character deaths.
It’s literally the Polar opposite of Attack on Titans.
I will never get over Makarov not having an impactful death.
Those are both in my top 5 faves 😅 but yes, stakes is the biggest issue in Fairy Tail
Attack on titan is peak overrated trash with the worst protagonist ever conceived in fiction.
Mashima has a great sense of world building and great character designs, but goddammit, does he fail at writing time and time again, mainly because he either doesn't commit or commit too hard!
only thing i disagree here is the backtracking on zeref. any good person would turn insane and evil with the curse he had lol
but good points
@@epictronologs1793 That would have made sense if we hadn't seen him being good and unwilling to kill in his first appearance.

@MewIruma Fairy Tail is one of my favorites. It's not perfect, but I love it for what it is. This always bugged me so I wanted to pitch the idea
Even back then, with the mind of a 14-year old, I had so wished to actually see Romeo be a protagonist. I totally loved his vibes and his design.
This video actually provided a great idea and allowed the side cast to get more attnetion
Edit: The last arc had so much potential too but stuff like one shotting god serena , makarov coming back, and acnologia getting power of friendship'd was terrible
@@shinobix4925 Thanks for the great comment!

Yeah, there are a lot of members who feel like dead weight, and I think this would've helped that a bit.
I mean, come on, a filler arc that was _supposed_ to feature him more was the DAPHNE ARC
Edit: now that i think about it, they made a good fight for him in the FILLER arc Key of the starry smth smth. Where he fights Sorano (Angel) where she uses magic that would kill her as that is her wish and Gray, mr. Iced shell, was having none of that
Thanks for the cool comment!
Well, there's the Juvia fight, sk thst's plus many points
Gray fought with the armor guy on Edolas? It wasn't a fight but it was actuslly a fun watch.
He fought against the speedster in the oracion seis arc. Every enemy in that arc is obviously a threat, but it's still less points and he doesn't get kuch from it (unlike Lucy who earns one or two celestial keys)
Gray fought the guy who possessed that celestial spirit ig...
Gray's dynamics with the other has been reduced ever since Juvia joined the guild. Like I said, there's nothing wrong with Juvia, but he loses his dynamic with Erza
Gray was the kne equipped to fight mard geer, and he got downed first.
@@MythicAce218 yeah, now that you mention it, it does feel more like a nitpick now. But still, we require more Happy moments!
This would've been a better idea for an ark instead of the Key of the Starry Sky arc
Agreed!
But Lucy is the main narrator of the story and I think the starry arc was good
@Zara-uq1wv "Both? Both. Both is good"
I would take this Iver the Starry Sky Arc
I totally agree on that one, it would've been a good idea, even more, it could help us focus a bit more on the side characters of the guild and maybe like them a bit. Instead of almost forgetting even their names because of how little screen time they have, basically, just extra characters.
I'll put Black Clover in comparison because they share a similar system (magic knight squads), while the Black Bulls have way less members than Fairy Tail, Tabata was still able to give them enough screen time to learn more about them and like them, it's not just Asta, Yami and Noelle. They all have their moments, even Gordon.
Yeah the Black Bulls are awesome
I also feel like Romeo as a character is a huuuge missed opportunity, they way they showed him at the end made it seem like he'd be asort of main character, or key character, but they barely used him, even in 100 years quest, its almost like they've completely threw him away, its tragic.
now i need your version to be official asap
That might be a while 🤣
The other point is that during the final arc of the original series they didn't kill off Makarov after he used Fairy Law at a not good time.

Glad you liked it!

@tempotempo1097 Glad we're on the same page
That'd be a wild story to follow
Ahhh I regret watching this video because now I wished this is what the story was. Because then it feels like there is more reason to care about why the group regrets missing the 7 years so much. Instead of being told that the 7 years was hard. We actually get to see it. Although I wouldn’t have the background talks of Lucy’s dad’s death. Because otherwise it just makes that episode of her searching for him a bit obsolete
I like your takes on FT. I would like to see you correcting more of those mistakes (Makarov for example).
@@mhmdd There's a video coming today 👀
@@gallenberger1 awesome! Cant wait
This is a great idea. Would have really improved the show for the better

That'd be a dream come true
This also would flesh out other "Side Characters" by putting them in the spot-like more like-
Macao handling being master
Alzack & Bisca essentially being the strongets members
Kinana Past
heck even doranbolt/mest, like how did he slowly lose himself to depression and leaving the knights, how the magic council reacted to fairy tail losing its members, the guild alliance reaction and helping Fairy Tail search for their friends, HECK how did Lyon react to hearing gray's death and knowing that he's the last of Ur's legacy.
It's definitely the biggest issue FT has, and I'm a huge FT fan.
Honestly yeah, i wouldnt have mind seeing a season of just what happened in the seven years that they were gone
I agree with this, but I think the video idea would’ve been cool too.
You have to think even as teenagers we know the show wouldn’t completely end there if they’re still making episodes. I wouldn’t have made it s full season cause it would definitely be boring but 4-5 episodes would be fine
Bro has made the greatest point ever to potentially have made Fairy Tail better. Still love the series for what a lovable mess it is
@foxstevenjaleco4496 Tomorrow might be another vid to watch then 👀
allegedly, fairy tail author can't comprehend making anime adaptation without a gag in every single epsiodes, i mean the way i look at fairy tail is like... the franchise that's confused either they have to focus on the gag or the story
@@ScuffTuff Great stuff, the Alzack point is a good one, and I agree on some of the issues
Honestly tho id still want this idk like a special OVA for 100 year quest
That'd be epic
I like almost all of this!
My only addition: i think it might actually be better if the non tenrou group tell the tenrou group not to interfere when they arrive so the non tenrou group can fight to victory with their own resolve, something the tenrou group respects with zero signs of doubt that their guildmates will win, regardless of how beaten and weak they look
And the remaining non tenrou group members dig deep like the main group does every arc and win against all odds so the guild can come together as a whole again all as equals
@patricklynch4074 I considered something like that. I like that too. Check out some of my other ideas for that like in my Lisanna video!
That could work too!
They could make a whole arc with Romeo as the protagonist.. That's what I first thought after the tenrou arc but welp... It didn't happened
Dude this would be awesome, incredibly emotional, and wouldn't change anything in the story even if it was done now! Mashima could release something called "fairy tail: the lost episodes" showing all of their stories within that 7 year time skip.
@@griffinhead9218 That would really cool
See doing the time skip in the main line series would be a mistake because for most they tune in and follow for the main group..
Now what they could do. Is take this idea you have and make it into a spin off (As you mentioned Zero) Which was a spin off
for those deeply invested Fairy Tail Fans. It would be a hit. Same thing with the people who have called for a "future Fairy Tail" following the kids of the series growth.
@@ShaggyJonJ That works
Personally, I would make the remaining members have a more even fight against Twilight Orge with them relying more on tactical fighting to gain as much of the upper hand as the can get. Then at the end the main cast comes back, but acting more as support while the remaining guild members take the lead.
Having the remaining guild members almost get wiped out until the main cast arrives just makes them look so incompetent, useless and overall makes them seem like they're absolutely nothing without the main cast. Like they can't do anything without the main cast there to hold their hand. In my opinion at least.
They should grieve, they should devolve from their grief, but they should also evolve, grow beyond that and become even better then they were before.
you should be a character designer, you are very good at it.
How so?

Great idea! I loved Fairy Tale, but dropped off a few years ago. I got all the way up to the arc where the zodiacs do a switch up.
Fairy Tail is one of my favorite anime with countless amazing moments. But it also had valid complaints against it, and they dropped the ball with this arc...the followed it up with the best one somehow.
That Arc is filler. totally skippable.
Edit: I watched the rest of the video, didn't realize that was the route you were taking. This would have genuinely worked, props.
Grand Magic Games is my favorite arc, I think this tweak would add to it. Hopefully you enjoy it!
That'd be a cool twist to it too!
imo... if you going to ressurrect a character later, don't even kill it in the first place...

The problem with this is that none of those characters is relevant after the main cast comes back so wasting 12 episodes on them is not worth it. It worked with Maevis flashback because you got exposure to some of the most important characters in the series, including Zeref.
@joaosoares2570 This is under the assumption that they would get moments to shine later too. If not, yeah, this becomes fleeting
I don't have any prior opinion on this show, but the way you put it makes me agree automatically.
@@TheStickCollector 🤣 hell yeah!
They needed more fanservice.

Hey boys, Fairy tail is a Fairy Tale, a never-ending adventure, there is nothing more to add.
He does sometimes struggle to capitalize on some great ideas.
That's fair
@@randomthoughtinstantiator These are good ideas too!
But now that I think about it, I can't help but laugh about it 😂😂
Great story 🤣
The story was always working towards Natsu and his relationship with Zeref, who was introduced that arc. It wouldn’t have made any sense to kill Natsu and the other main characters like that… Where would the story have even gone from there with all the important characters dead?
I don’t disagree that there could have been more time before Mavis brought them back, but Mishima still did a good job with the story/arc.
All I wanted was to delay their return to make it feel more important
😂 you re just describing EXACTLY what happened, just changing few things and taking WAY too much time to show it. Mashima's way was already really efficient and didnt lose the viewer into 12 episodes of grief and anger of 2nd plan characters. You dont fix something that dont need to be..
And yes ft zero took so much time because it needed to. That was the origin of fairy tail not just "deaths"
The goal was to try and keep it consistent with canon (outside of Reedus) but I definitely could have gone further and added the rise of Sabretooth and given more depth for characters on a per episode basis.
I didn't know I needed this until now

This would of actually been a really good series and added depth to the extras
Great comment!
i also dislike how much they hyped up max by making him almost as strong as natsu as he literally pushed natsu to the brink forcing him to go lightning mode just to beat him in a sparring match, and romeo by him learning fire magic and inheriting natsus style only for them to be completely useless later in the story and almost never be brought up again, huge missed opportunity, they could have been great characters
Agreed. I understand the critique that focusing on the boring side characters would be tough, but they are boring because we don't know anything or care about them. If we gave them depth and moments of value, we wouldn't see them as boring, and that's what my aim was here.
to be for real i was bored enough with that one episode where we were stuck with only the remaining members ☠️ this would be cool as a filler arc tho
