Speaking genrally, one thing I've noticed is that everyone always seems to use the "sticker" price as the barometer to make a deal, but the danger is that generally, most show dealers always have their sticker so way overpriced. For example, that Obsidian Jota/165, the guy had a $50 sticker. Comps are $20 on that card, so sticker is more than double. The dealer takes 20% off sticker and the Buyer thinks they got a good deal at $40, when in fact, even after the "sticker discount", the buyer is still paying 200% of comps. I'm just using that card as a general example cus it was easy to see what it was when it flashed on screen, and I'm not speaking specifically of this Dealer or the deal you did. I'm just pointing out overall, that we, the buyers, need to stop looking at sticker prices as a basis if we got a good deal or not, and more importantly, NOT allowing Dealers to do it, as nearly every deal I made at a card show, the Dealer always tells me that the price they are giving me is X % off sticker" I was trying to work a deal for a card last month at a show. The sticker was $1950. and comps were $1075-1220 (we agreed to do $1200 comp), and after negotiating, the lowest he would do is $1500. I was like "Huh??? Again, the Dealer AGREED with me that comps were $1200, but he would not move lower than $1500, cus according to him "That is nearly 25% off sticker" I wanted to dropkick him.
There are a ton of dealers looking for that one guy who will pay whatever just to walk out with that card today, if that's the case then they're going to be holding onto most of their stuff for ages. Seller possibly made a poor investment or paid over the last comp you wanted to pay so he feels bad losing 50-100 bucks on you when he could take the small loss and possibly take that money and get a big win. I don't see an issue if they are a little higher than last comp if the particular player is doing very well or if the card is actually quite hard to find, other then that there should be some logical number around the current market price.
You're too nice, Troy. Anybody that starts that "If I graded this" shit, I would immediately walk away lol. Also people that start talking about higher value stuff they put in dollar boxes...like okay don't fucking put it in the dollar boxes then. Anyway, love the vids dude.
The hockey card packs you opened are the real young guns but that’s from 2020-21 extended which is known to be the worst checklist. Entitled boxes are going for $18
exactly like you are selling it raw, and I am taking the risk pipe down about the PSA 10 price. I've never met a single dealer that said, "that's a ridiculous deal" and it actually be a ridiculous deal.
@@PTdoubleOT yup thats how it be lmaoooo like if its def gonna gem why tf isn't the seller grading it ,, when they wanna upcharge cause condition I just leave
Good content and good to see dealers standing their ground on the % of comps thing. As a fellow dealer, I’ve reached the point where I am only discounting a bit on a per card basis and avoiding percentages. A lot of videos only show quick deals and not the tougher part of it. Nice pick ups!
Love your videos Troy! I was at the Toronto card show as well, drove down from Montreal and didn’t want to bother you when I saw you haha but it was sick to see you dealing over there!
Hey I have a Robert Horry autograph basketball card it’s a Huston rocket card it’s in perfect condition and is in a srew shut case and I was wondering if you could tell me the price

If that guy knows the card is over 20 why put it in the dollar box and then bring it up when you wanted to buy it
This would be my last time at that card show after that dollar box ordeal.

That's a popular line by card show dealers like, it is not my fault if, a card they chose to get graded, isn't worth the cost of grading... lol.
I really love that you’re so respectful to everyone no matter how good their collection is. You’re a real one!
If you got cards from the dollar box whys he saying 2$ each and then told you 124$ for 45 cards?
I was just estimating when I said 45, it was closer to 60. So we did $2 per card exactly. It was a $1-$5 box, so a "dollar" box but not exactly $1
That dollar box ordeal was sketchy
MORE HOCKEY CANADA BABY GO LEAFS GO GAME 7 TONIGHT !!? TUNE IN WAY BETTER THAN NBA PLAYOFFS

See if you can find any 1998 Donruss / Leaf Crusades, lol...went to a local show here in Seattle area and no one knew what I was looking for 😅😂
i hate when people base of if they graded a card lmao, so then grade it if you wanna charge a premium because it sells for a lot in a 10

Or the 'surcharge' because the player (ie Luka) is GOING to win MVPs and Rings.

Yeah it's crazy that people use that as leverage when grading is such a hit and miss sometimes.
For the most part a seller is selling for a reason so what ever reasoning they have, the buyer can either buy or pass.
As a fellow Demon Deacon, I'm glad that I tuned in.
Thanks for watching!
Was watching you talk on stage at the show. I was wearing a Bengals hat, was going to say hi but had to leave before you finished
