Thank you, Krista. I’m making a temperature blanket to celebrate my 50th year on this planet! This is by far the most watchable and useful video I have found (and I’ve watched a few!)
Thank you for sharing this with us I did a knitted temperature blanket 17 years ago, I also used a white sparkly yarn for all the days we had snow and had the temps in 3° increments. It was a lot of fun, the hardest thing was remembering to go look at the thermometer at 12 o'clock every day, so some days it was a bit later. Now, with better interwebs weather channels, it would be much easier to do than it was then. I gave the blanket to my Nan when I had finished it. It was a good record of the temps of my 40th year. Unfortunately, I don't know what happened to it after Nanny died in 2021. Hope that everyone embarking on this project has a lot of fun picking the colours and deciding on the temp increments for your very own blanket. Happy 2023 one and all 🎉🎉💜🎉🎉
That's awesome, Purple Snowdrop! A knit version would be gorgeous too. I'm sure someone is all snuggled up in that blanket wondering why the stripes are so random. LOL Thank you!! 🌸👍🌺
This is the most comprehensive and totally understandable explanation of creating a temperature blanket I've heard! Thank you for sharing! Can't wait to start one that's going to be a success!
23:45 I really like your color choices. So many of these temperature blankets I’ve seen use softer colors and they turn out rather dull (nice colors individually, but one row of this, one row of that is not visually pleasing). I would not have thought to use neon colors. The stitch you used does a good job of bringing it all together. Love it!
I used your pattern to make a temp blanket of my birth year. I love it! 300 stitches across with a white row between ea month. Only used 8 colors, but wish I had added another color for over 100°.
Oh, this is fantastic, Krista. I'm actually doing a temperature blanket for my daughter's first year in college in California using the Speedy Granny Ruth pattern (and doubling up a dk weight yarn so that each row is 2 days) I'm loving it!!
I planned out mine for 2023. I’m doing 5 round moss stitch squares with Caron Simply Soft with a 5mm Athena hook. I’ll use the high temp of the day. I’m marking the start of the new month with monthly gem/birthstone colors in the first 3 rounds and last 2 rounds in white. In 2020 I did a temperature shawl using the same Caron Simply Soft in moss stitch rows using the temp when I woke up every morning.
@@flamboyantfreak it’s a 20x19 grid. I started with 3 white in the top left where I will stitch the year with a color that matches the Pantone color for 2023 -Viva Magenta. 4th block is the January birthstone color in center with 2 rounds in white. 5th is Jan 1st color across to the end of the 20 squares (Jan 16). Jan 17 starts the 2nd row. When I reach Jan 31 I will attach the square with February birthstone color center with 2 rounds of white next then continue throughout the year until December 31 is the final square in the bottom right corner. I will do a single crochet edge in white or black and the a decorative border in the Pantone Viva Magenta.
I found your channel and tutorial when heading to TH-cam and searching for the temperature blanket. Your tutorial is amazing! Thank you so much for such an easy to follow step-by-step video. Now I have saved all the other videos to a playlist to watch later. I'm HOOKED!
I am so happy I found your channel!! You're a great teacher, and I love your energy! Using the needle to show where to put the hook was exactly what I needed. I tend to not count/see the stitches correctly, so putting the needle through the stitch made it so clear. to me. The stitch you showed made it so easy as u mentioned by using half the stitches. This is my first temp blanket, and your video helps me so much. Thank you!
I’m making mine this year and constantly referencing this video to refresh my mind in between other projects. Thank you for this video! I can’t wait to finish it at the end of the year 😊
Glad I found this!! I turn 40 this year! I’m starting late BUT I’m going to do it for my final year of my 30s!!and next year for my first year of my 40s!!!
I stumbled acorss that site and it is AWESOME!!!!!! You can choose (I chose all greens for my daughter's). It also gives you an idea of how much yarn you will need for each color by telling you how many days the color appears.
I haven’t made a temperature blanket before but I like your pattern. I may have to try it. Your tutorials are always so easy to understand and very clear instructions. Thank you. Happy New Year! 🙏🏻💜
I’m so glad I found this video before I started my temperature blanket! I was struggling to find a pattern that I really liked. I bought this pattern and am excited to do a bed runner! Thanks for a great pattern💚

I don't think I am going to commit myself for a blanket but I might make a pocket shawl or scarf, one row per day. As the temperature does not vary that much between the seasons, I'm thinking of having more than one shade for rainy season to also show when it rained and if it was only a short shower with little rain or if it bucketed down and lasted long enough to cause a flash flood. I might even add a shade to indicate thunder and lightning, and yes, add special days and holidays that will also spice up the long, uneventful temperature blocks - that way I can still have a colourful blanket.
What a beautiful blanket. I'm actually making a crayon rainbow blanket with this stitch. I find the stitch easy yet beautiful. I see a lot of temperature blankets done in single crochet. That's perhaps a nice stitch for a beginner but boring for anyone beyond beginner. I like the tassels but I already had a border planned. I think my next blanket will have tassels. I might do a temperature blankets for my family next year. I am currently working on 5 blankets for Xmas presents. Anyway just wanted to let you know you did a great job explaining with so many details. Thank you.
Hi Christa, thank you so much for all the great work you do. I just started crocheting again a little over a year ago and have been interested in crocheting a temperature blanket since I first heard about it. So thank you so much for your complete and thorough videos. I am currently planning my temperature blanket and hoping to start soon. I would like to crochet a border around my finished blanket instead of tassels. Is this pattern suitable for crocheting a border?
I finished my temp afghan. I was using lowest temperature in Chalfont, PA, and 2 wt yarn. Had to quit as of end of August as it was getting too big. Thanks for the tassel instuctions!

I love the idea of a year-long project Temperature Blanket. But living in a Prairie Province in Canada, my temperatures fluctuate between 42°c in the summer to minus -42°c in the winter. I'd need 84 different colours of yarn. I think I'm going to make mine, into 5 degree incriments. Fantastic idea, though, thankyou!! Happy New Year.
I did a hexagon granny temp blanket with the centre, the temperature and one row neutral. I live in Winnipeg and chose the colours green for above zero and blue for below. Chose 10 degree increments. Worked out perfectly.
This was an excellent tutorial! So clear and informative. Funny though, I have 1 FO and 2 WIPS in the moss stitch. Love your directions on new/same yarn, and tassels.❣
I'm having a hard time finding size 3 DK weight yarn in a large enough variety to choose colors I like. Im not sure if this is a common problem or just an issue in my smaller town. Has anyone followed this pattern using size 4 medium weight yarn? If so, what size did the blanket turn out to be? I don't have enough crocheting knowledge to know if this would significantly change the size of the blanket. Thanks!
Hi Christa!!! This year I’m turning the big 30 so I decided to make a temperature blanket to celebrate this milestone of a year 😊 Thank you so much for making this patter you know I love them lol 🥰 Quick question though…I only have 4 weight acrylic yarn, what size clover hook would you recommend for the same size (twin bed)?
This stitch is very pretty. What will be the approximate size if I do a full year w/this pattern using the 301 chains? I’m finding most blankets are way too big. I completed a 2022 blanket w/a different stitch and found I needed to divide each row in 4 day increments.
Question! As my edge is growing.. at the start of each row is it chaine 1, chain 2, chain 1, chain 2 etc.. or is it chain 2 when it's a new colour and chain 1 when it's the same colour? Thank you!
I know, riiiiight?? Totally! And here I thought I had NAILED making a temperature blanket tutorial in 2 days... not so much. LOL! Now it's a "Are You Watching?" test. :D That's my story, and I'm sticking to it! lol 🌸🌼🌺
That's awesome, Laura Trnka! Not sure yet... you will definitely need more of some colors and less of others - all depends on the temperatures! Thank you!! 🌸👍🌺
Hi, cara gresham!! In the sample I did one side with tassels, and one side without - just to show you the options. My blanket will have tassels on both sides. Hope that helps? Thank you! 🌻🌺🌼
Hey Christa ..??? 🙋🏼♀️ Do most people who do these temp blankets do it daily and do a row of their daily high and a row of their daily low? Then have a yarn color for a temp range for a low and high? 😊🤷🏼♀️ It’s all so confusing to me lol 😂🤪 I’ve never done a temp blanket before.. and would like to give it a try sometime. 😛 Also what is that beautiful bright blanket back there in background behind you? Is there a video you have about that? 😜 Thanks a bunch 🙏🏻 💜🥰💜
@@SecretYarnery Was there a video about that first temp blanket or a tutorial for it? 😜 So usually people don’t include a row of the low temps? Only the highs for each day? Thanks so much 🙏🏻 💜🥰💜
@@SecretYarnery I thought I was following this pattern… I’m new to crochet so I probably got stuff mixed up in my head. I rewatched the video and the video is the one I’m following

I've tried using your links and also going into the site by typing in the name, four different browsers, so not sure what is happening. Thanks for your help!

This stitch is very pretty. What will be the approximate size if I do a full year w/this pattern using the 301 chains? I’m finding most blankets are way too big. I completed a 2022 blanket w/a different stitch and found I needed to divide each row in 4 day increments.
Hi, Kris Adkins!! If you are using a size 3 dk weight yarn, the finished length will be a bit less than 6'. Hope that helps! Thank you! 🌻🌺🌼
Looks beautiful!!!!!
Hi, Sandra Ouaguena!! Happy New Year! Thank you! 🌻🌺🌼
The yarn colors you used are so pretty! What kind of yarn is that? I didn't catch it.
Hi, Kathyoder!! I am using a mix of Softly Baby and Favorite from Ice Yarns. Not ideal, but it's what I have. Thank you! 🌻🌺🌼
Question! As my edge is growing.. at the start of each row is it chaine 1, chain 2, chain 1, chain 2 etc.. or is it chain 2 when it's a new colour and chain 1 when it's the same colour? Thank you!
Hi, Monique Siddle!! The row starts with a chain 23 - turn - sc into the first space. Hope that helps? Thank you! 🌻🌺🌼
And yes - if you are not changing colors or yarn - chain 1 and turn. :)
Did anyone else notice that Christa was upside down at around 14 minutes? 😂
😂😂😂 yes hilarious
😂
Ha ha yupper🙃🙃🙃🙃
I know, riiiiight?? Totally! And here I thought I had NAILED making a temperature blanket tutorial in 2 days... not so much. LOL! Now it's a "Are You Watching?" test. :D That's my story, and I'm sticking to it! lol 🌸🌼🌺
@@SecretYarnery I was moving my phone as I watched, so I thought it was me! 😅 Good job keeping us on our toes!🤭
Going in and starting tonight. Any idea of total yardage needed?
That's awesome, Laura Trnka! Not sure yet... you will definitely need more of some colors and less of others - all depends on the temperatures! Thank you!! 🌸👍🌺
Hi - So there will only be tassels on one side of the piece, yes? thanks!
Hi, cara gresham!! In the sample I did one side with tassels, and one side without - just to show you the options. My blanket will have tassels on both sides. Hope that helps? Thank you! 🌻🌺🌼
Great ideas!
Oh I am so glad you enjoyed it, Debby Ferguson!! Thank you! 🌷🌺🌷
I have a ton of size 4 yarn on hand. Can I use that? And if so, what size hook would you recommend?
Hi, Shannon McPeake!! You sure could - just maybe stop at 9 months or so - when it gets too long. Thank you! 🌻🌺🌼
There is always a recommended hook size on the yarn label.
Can I make in a 6ply cotton? How many chains do I need? Please help me
Hi, Soula Varsamakis!! Yes you could! Chain the width you want your blanket to be. Thank you! 🌻🌺🌼
Yours is gorgeous! My problem is that I live in Florida, it will be one color......hot! 😅
Thank you, @Mrs.T.Rusch25! 🌈🌼🌸
Hey Christa ..??? 🙋🏼♀️
Do most people who do these temp blankets do it daily and do a row of their daily high and a row of their daily low? Then have a yarn color for a temp range for a low and high? 😊🤷🏼♀️
It’s all so confusing to me lol 😂🤪 I’ve never done a temp blanket before.. and would like to give it a try sometime. 😛
Also what is that beautiful bright blanket back there in background behind you? Is there a video you have about that? 😜
Thanks a bunch 🙏🏻
💜🥰💜
Hi, @KrissD.!! Most people do one row per day, of the high temperature. Lemme see which blanket that was... 🌻🌺🌼
Ooooh! That is my first temperature blanket! It was HOT that year.. lol
@@SecretYarnery
Was there a video about that first temp blanket or a tutorial for it? 😜
So usually people don’t include a row of the low temps? Only the highs for each day?
Thanks so much 🙏🏻
💜🥰💜
If I wanted to make a queen size blanket how many stitches do I start with?
Or would 365 ' 365 be ginormous? Would make a square.
Hi, Jill Oliver!! Chain the width you want your blanket to be, and go from there. Thank you! 🌻🌺🌼
Thank you. Realized what I asked like *duh* moment. Haha
Only stitch I got down so far is the chain.
Does the pattern include a list of the colours used in this video tutorial please?
Hi, sunshineinabottle27!! No it doesn't, since I am mixing yarns to use what I have, not what I to buy. 🌻🌺🌼
In one month of the year I want to do are not all temperatures written in the days for the location I want to do.
I want to chain 266… will this work?
267… we shall see lol
I'm doing something wrong but I dont know what I'm doing. Somehow 1 side is getting wider while the other side is staying pretty much the same.
Eautuful
Hi, @jayakumar307!! Thank you! 🌻🌺🌼
If I had a base chain of 127, how many “granny” stitches should I have? I can’t tell if my blanket is even or not….
I keep alternating it seems between 60 & 61. Which doesn’t seem correct
Hi, @cortlandhilla4066!! Are you making this pattern, or a granny stitch version? 🌻🌺🌼
@@SecretYarnery I thought I was following this pattern… I’m new to crochet so I probably got stuff mixed up in my head. I rewatched the video and the video is the one I’m following
Would you please clarify for me why to chain 2 if changing colors, but only chain 1 if continuing with same color. Changing colors is my nemesis!!! 😅
Hi, @rebeccagivens-bickerstaff9012!! The extra chain is for turning. Hope that helps! Thank you! 🌻🌺🌼
Ordinarily, if not changing color, you don't need a turning chain?
Looking for this pattern can't seem to find it, help anyone??
Hi, Nikki Scheff!! Here it is: bit.ly/3DsQjE1 Thank you! 🌻🌺🌼
Hello there I am trying to buy the pattern from your website, I've tried all my browsers and I am getting a message that the website is trying to steal my details and is dangerous! I didn't get this message yesterday from your site. Is there a problem currently? Thanks!
Yikes! I have no idea! Let me look into it and revert. Is there a pattern you were looking for in particular?
@@SecretYarnery Hello, thank you for answering! Yes, I was looking for the Ultimate Temperature Blanket because I hoped the pattern gave yarn quantities. I've tried using your links and also going into the site by typing in the name, four different browsers, so not sure what is happening. Thanks for your help!
Hi thanks, just went onto your site and it all looks good now, so whatever you did seems to have fixed it! Thanks again.
What mm hook
5.0mm Thank you, Sapphire Stone! 🌈🌼🌸
