I remember right around the draft watching a video where JJJ and Bamba worked out with KG and JJJ impressed the hell out of KG and you could see he was locked in and motivated and Bamba had more attitude and didn't seem to have that same fire. Here we are 6 seasons later and that initial impression looks very valid. Grizzlies got the right guy.

Always thought he would be the perfect backup to Myles Turner. But Jalen Smith put in the work this summer and is the player I thought Mo could be on the Pacers.
I play ball 2-3 times a week and see noticeable improvement monthly. I’m 5’8 and not athletic. Crazy to me that guys with elite physical tools can come into the league, practice every day for years with top level coaching and barely improve. I think it really comes down to someone’s desire & drive to improve.
Those my friend are novice gains. A complete newbie going to the gym would probably lose more pounds in their first 3 to 5 months until they hit their plateau compared to a professional bodybuilder. Elite of the elite basketball players (ie the NBA) only see minute incremental changes because they are way way beyond normal people who plays basketball in their free time.
Some guys just don't like basketball, even though they are built for it. It's easy to say he should just retire and do something else, but most of us not turning down a paycheck like that until we don't have a choice but to. I can't knock him for that.

I saw Bamba play SO much in high school and his talent level was really, really high. I've never seen anyone who has longer arms than he does, and it really seemed like he would be a very good NBA player. But, this video points it out so well...That passion, that drive, that dog just doesn't seem to be in him. These things can be hard to project, but that definitely seems like the biggest reason he's been such a disappointment. He seems to be content just resting on his laurels vs really doing what he needs to improve and stay in the league.

The Magic are great with centers. Just look at how Shaq and Dwight turned out. Even Darko Milicic improved a bit during his stint with the Magic. Vooch was great during his time in Orlando. The organization wasn't the reason for Mo's stunted growth.

Reminds me alot of Thabeet from UCONN picked early due to physical potential but never really had a staple to hang his hat on in terms of playstyle Mo has a 3 point shot but hes not a good shooter, hes 7'1 but hes atrocious in the paint, hes skinny but he doesn't run up and down the court, and outside of shot blocking he doesnt offer up anything else defensively
