I watched it in slowmo and when Macaque freed Wukong from the demon, it looked like it was in Macaque’s POV when Wukong killed him.
I hc that Macaque was slowly going insane, due to Erlang attacking the mountain and burned it down, Macaque had to defend the mountain and the baby Monkies, and since Wukong was never there to help he just slowly went insane and that’s why he(Macaque) was laughing in the background, believing that he was doing the right thing when really he was insane.
@@Goob23 I had a similar theory that Macaque "made a deal" to get his powers between the brotherhood and the journey (Maybe as a way to better protect the mountain. Notice he doesn't use any abilities until Wukong is locked up). As a result, the new power messed with his head. Screwing up memories, making him more temperamental and rash, enhancing any paranoia/fight or flight, etc. which influenced his actions at the end of JTTW. In flashbacks, Macaque is shown breaking out of chains, so it's possible Wukong tried pining him down to talk sense or smth, but he was too far gone. They fought, and Wukong slowly stopped pulling his punches just to keep Macaque down. I don't think Wukong knew why Mac was acting the way he was either. The whole event was a betrayal from them both. He might not have even realized Macaque was dead (or that he was at least leaving him for dead) until it was too late

BUT you can also see it as people being atracted to the Monkey King and going toward him, as MK and Nazha are close to him, but Macaque is, not only separated from them by the chains hanging on the ceiling, but there are also chains, with cuffs, next to him.
I also want to know where did he get his shadow powers. You can tell from the shadow play that he already had them as you see his clones next to Wukong's so It was not LBD.

Wukong regularly goes to Kuan Yin when he gets upset because he feels safe around her and she gets to be a bit more chaotic then normally allowed around him and -ngh!- I LOVE IT SO MUCH!

Watching it made me realise that I think the next season is going to focus more on Macaque, because his power is changing, the staff zappy thing was the same colour as his power, and he was the only one to notice it. I am still standing by my previous statement that season 3 is standing on the line with season 4 being slightly over it & 5 being definitely NOT a kid's show. I am 19 and I howled like a freaking dog while watching season 5, I can't imagine having a kid watch something so sad yet so complicated. I feel like the humor and language got slightly more mature as well? I am so happy this show got so heavy but I almost threw up from crying while watching episode 9.
