    Code requires a wet location "light source" to have an airtight baffle housing and trim. The retrofit kits are great because the all-in-ones are IC rated and fit both new construction and remodel cans. Also, the Halo are much less expensive here than the Feit, and work just as well.

      Might be smart to have a GFI circuit.

    In case someone would wonder - and yes, it's just THAT easy to figure out:
    - IP67 is *water resistant* and only approved for use above or near a bath and/or shower.
    - IP68 is *waterproof* and approved when used when direct contact with running water or puddles is applied (bottom of your shower for example) or above a bath and/or shower.
    That one little digit makes a huge difference but seems to still confuse a hell lot of people. I myself use the IP68 everywhere in my bathroom, just to play on the safe side. It's a bit more expensive, but I don't have to worry about a thing with those. ;)
    Cheers.

    I just moved into an old small house dating from 1927: I'm going to be putting in two overhead battery lights, one over the front entryway, and one over the shower and below the fan
    enclosure (square) that's already there.

    Hello, I wanted to know if it'd possible to install an led light / light mechanism onto an existing shower head instead of buying the ones that already have them? Thanks.

    if you use a separate trim kit, as long as the coveris for damp locations, thats all that matters right?

    Damp Location synonymous with Wet Location?

    Hi Benjamin, just started checking out your videos. Quite a renovation you have going there! I'm working on an old house project similar in scale. I like your recommendation for the LED retrofits. That's what I was planning as well. Are your lights above your bath/showers on a GFCI circuit?

    • @BenjaminSahlstrom
      @BenjaminSahlstrom  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Peter May IV Neat! Taking on an old house renovation is a lot of work! Hope it goes well for you.
      No, the lights are not on a GFCI circuit nor do they need to be. They are on a separate lighting circuit that is dedicated to the first floor of my house. This keeps the lights in the bathroom on if you were to inadvertently trip the GFCI in the bathroom. Hope this makes sense.
      Thanks for your comment!

    What about the panel breaker, can just be a regular breaker or afci ?

    Hi, thank you for the video! 😁 This will be my next project! Do you think you could just connect the new ceiling light to the ceiling exhaust fan so you don't have to put a new switch? I would like to be able to turn on both with the one existing switch.

    Is height over a bath tub an issue? I have an 8' ceiling. The top edge of the bath tub is 76.5" from the ceiling. Also wondering if the switch has to be a certain distance horizontally from the outside edge of the bath tub?

    Do the shower lights have to be GFI protected. I have a shower light on the same line as my other recessed lights in the bathroom. Want to pass inspection.
    Also does the shower fan need to be GFI protected? Thank you for all the help!!! Great channel.

    • @BenjaminSahlstrom
      @BenjaminSahlstrom  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As far as I'm aware the lights do not need to be on a GFCI but are required to be on an AFCI breaker. Good luck with your project!!

    • @stevenchan6340

      I would provide GFCI protection regardless of whether code requires it or not. It's an nice extra safety precaution

  • @ve6kk

    Damp location approval is not the same as wet location. Did you pass permit inspection?
    I looked at the LED shower lights but they all seem to be only about 650 lumens - like a 40W incandescent.

      @@valariousv7697 From a cost standpoint - absolutely ridiculous. Just install a new light.
      Regarding light transmission from another light source, the same would be true, unless you think a small flashlight beam is sufficient to illuminate an entire shower area.

    Bro what colour of that light? 3000k or 4000k??

    • @garfieldwood8315
      @garfieldwood8315 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      See packaging label info at 2:29 -it says Warm White 3000*K
      Other color temperatures may look better, depending on the color of the walls, floor, and how much outdoor light comes in through the windows. Just my advice as an experienced electrician.
      More importantly- buy LED lighting with a Color Rendering Index (CRI) rating of 90 or higher. This means the light emitted illuminates all colors of the spectrum MUCH BETTER than a CRI rating of 80 or 85. Some LED's with CRI 80 make the room, your skin, hair, and clothing look dull, where high CRI ratings show colors vividly.
