Very nice board dude! I made almost exactly the same thing. It also turned out to heavy. Surfs like crap if you compare it to styrofoam boards, but you just have adjust your style of surfing. Only surf down the line with some very smooth carves. Don't try turns, because it will feel like steering an oil tanker. Very cool to be working with your dad on this and a nice vid! You will get to the 1000 subs in no time if you keep creating these kind of video's!
To temporarily tack the pieces together when doing initial shaping. The pieces then get split apart for chambering. Only after chambering is a full amount of glue used to reassemble the pieces.
balsa would have been a lot easier to do.... everything.... but this is interesting from a historical perspective, since boards were made from redwood pretty frequently...
Mainly because I don’t have much experience making fins or using twin fins. This allows me to experiment with fun setups if I want. And I didn’t want to glass the board. I thought oil would look better
Not important how the board turned out, that’s some priceless quality time with Pops.
So true
Never sell that board
This thing is unbelievably beautiful my friend, you should be super proud of yourself! What a stunning board.
100%

Looks sweet
Good work looks great
Thank you!
beauty 🤩
So I got to ask. WHY only very small amounts of wood glue between each joint ???
To temporarily tack the pieces together when doing initial shaping. The pieces then get split apart for chambering. Only after chambering is a full amount of glue used to reassemble the pieces.
Insane
dude that is what happens to me, exactly when I do some woodworking, or anything that requires some modicum of precision...bbbrrrrammmmppp.....
Haha glad I’m not the only one
@@ZakBeardSurfboards for me there is usually some blood spilt as well immediately after ha ha
@@xisotopex 😄
What forstner bits did you use for the chambering?
I used a bunch. I think we started with 1 1/2” and went down to like 1/4”. Is that what you mean?
@@ZakBeardSurfboards Yes, thanks! Also curious about the brand of Forstner bits.
Duh , I gotta watch the whole video.
😄
did you glass it or just the oil finish?
Just oil. It’s supposed to seal it pretty well. I’ll find out as soon as we have more waves
balsa would have been a lot easier to do.... everything.... but this is interesting from a historical perspective, since boards were made from redwood pretty frequently...
It’s like twice as expensive tho. That was the main reason.
why not wooden glass on fins?
Mainly because I don’t have much experience making fins or using twin fins. This allows me to experiment with fun setups if I want. And I didn’t want to glass the board. I thought oil would look better
@@ZakBeardSurfboards yep. I thought I was going to do glass ons for my first board, ended up not. it looks simple, but not for me lol
cant i have templates for longboard surfboard? thank you sir..godbless
What kind of template?
