Far from hiding stuff to look better, every mistake you show on channel is another good reason to shop dark-side, because they are all the headaches you don't think about that you really have when actually creating a working solution from scratch. You can pay for every failure yourself, or you can pay a fraction of that cost as divided between many customers, not ever failing just isn't realistic.
Those that don't fail aren't trying hard enough and you hit the nail on the head. 50 quid more for a proven product is better than a cheaper untested item!

What do you do after a engine runaway? My bmw 320d e93 has a blown turbo and I think it may have engine runaway. I am going to install the new turbo and whatnot and hope for the best

First my sincere condolences. And to point out that the honesty in your videos make them gold! Now a joke: Do holes in pistons count as "speedholes", asking for my friend who drives a civic.
Did you noticed some alarming signs before engine overreving that the pistons started melting? It's the biggest problem with M57, melting pistons. Mine melted with no previous signs of coming carnage, but it was way past 1000 egt. In Poland we have strong group of guys running around 450hp on M57. I have e46 470hp with meth injection (have some videos on my profile) with solenoid injectors and iron block which seems to be stronger, but to certain point. We ran sometimes up to 1400ms of injection with solenoid ones (definitely not track cars, mostly motorway pulls 40-150+mph). On iron blocks we always have problem with cylinder Nr6, which we explain combination of worst cooling (nr 6 is furthest from radiator) and excessive egt's. I'm sure there would be a lot of demand for upgrated injectors, so don't forget about making some uprades to the solenoid ones too ;) Everyone can benefit with shorter injection timing, even "simplest" noozle honing to existing injector body could give some real power gains and mostly long lived engine. And don't overlook intank pump upgrade to give cp3 easier job. Really been fan of channel, showing what other are afraid, mistakes which we're all making.
@@ryanp6138 Correct me if I'm wrong but melted pistons usually mean too small ring gaps, so the engine overrev was due to too big ring gaps and the melted pistons because of faulty injectors? This piezo units are much "faster" than solenoid ones, but even with longer injection times solenoid ones tends to hold better. You also can't trust test always, because they test usually with oem pressure and everyone are running higher pressures with remaps. Anyway looking forward to 2020 to see some BMW injectors upgrades on your site
Had exactly the same happen to my M57 with the Cast Iron block and nobody had ever seen exhaust valves eaten up like that before...must have been in excess of 1500 degrees and it was out down to a leaking injector, block scrap and head too. I got them overhauled by a Bosch certified repair center for 900 odd euro and then had to rebuild the motor with another block and head. Just breached 3k kms and so far so good but what a stupid design and there is zero warning...but my god even in stock form the old battle bus, e61, pulls like an absolute train!
Hi gays i have issue with my m57 231ps. Low compression on cilinders 2 and 4. Take off cilinder head and every things look perfekt, except for the valves on the 2nd and 4th cylinders. I think it rolled a cam on the exhaust shaft. Are there interchangeable shafts from older models 218ps 204ps 184 ps?
They have one Swirl and one Tangential intake port per cylinder, which can each improve performance under different conditions. One for low rpm one for high, they don't have anything with swirl faps, the M47(136) has no flaps but still has two ports per cyl
Shoot me down if this is a shite idea, but couldn’t you run a c02 intercooler sprayer (with some water spray from a screen wash bottle for extra chill!) but also have an extra solenoid hooked up your intake to blast c02 in there in the event of a runaway? Or would c02 not really touch a bad runaway? My mate who works at Kia said the worst one he saw, he had to pull it up to a wall and stall it against the wall. Apparently nothing else would stop the thing.

If i understand correctly it wasn't the rpm that killed it. I hoped to get an answer why can't diesels rev high, but nope. My expectation was piston weight would destroy rod bearings at high rpm, but no. I need someone knowledge-able to explain to me why no 8k revving diesel exists.
i've heard contradicting statements that it burns both slower and faster. Fast, because you hear that ticking sound everytime injector fires, because pistons are a bit heavier to take the constant "knocking" and also compression-ignition ignites the mixture faster

Might want to measure the exhaust gas temps per cylinder if you are not already as the cracking in the exhaust suggests the temps are too high, this could also lead to localised oil burning leading to the runaway.
Your durations and egt are within safe limits, why do you still suspect injectors being too small? The piezo injectors on these with a cp3 and bumped rail pressure can fuel enough to reach close to 500bhp.
Can you not stick some 535D injectors in from a post 2008 motor? They ran my E61 535d at 396hp for 40,000 miles trouble free...... admittedly they weren’t running on a track other than a couple of track days. I Remember reading a forum post a few years back about re capping the 330d ones with the 535d tips? But I can’t remember where I saw that.

A few years ago I stripped a bmw engine with a blown piston I fitted a second hand engine 6months later engine blew again same cylinder turned our Ecu was the culprit over fuelling that cylinder common fault apparently
This seems like the place to ask. I looked around for info on what an n47 can take, the 4 cylinder diesel bmw. I looked around, all I found was some rubbish about a tune box or a turbo from a 3 liter. I want to know what can that engine take for real, none of that crap, I mean, the standard, proper path to modifications, make an exhaust manifold, make an intake (I assume there aren't options out there considering my luck finding info), do something about the injectors, aftermarket turbo. What is the power that engine can take before the engine itself becomes the problem? Where I live anything over 2l becomes a huge problem because of retarded taxing. That's why I'm interested in the n47. Will rods play the peek-a-boo game at say 500hp? Best I found was something like 260 to 300, but that was with stock parts, or the 330/335d turbo at best. Not what I would consider proper modifications.

Check injector holes size, they could’ve burned uneven resulting in same flow, but really different pattern and drop size. It’s an extremely rare issue.

Pull the glow plugs and turn over for a bit. Do a compression test if you can.

Did you noticed some alarming signs before engine overreving that the pistons started melting? It's the biggest problem with M57, melting pistons. Mine melted with no previous signs of coming carnage, but it was way past 1000 egt. In Poland we have strong group of guys running around 450hp on M57. I have e46 470hp with meth injection (have some videos on my profile) with solenoid injectors and iron block which seems to be stronger, but to certain point. We ran sometimes up to 1400ms of injection with solenoid ones (definitely not track cars, mostly motorway pulls 40-150+mph). On iron blocks we always have problem with cylinder Nr6, which we explain combination of worst cooling (nr 6 is furthest from radiator) and excessive egt's. I'm sure there would be a lot of demand for upgrated injectors, so don't forget about making some uprades to the solenoid ones too ;) Everyone can benefit with shorter injection timing, even "simplest" noozle honing to existing injector body could give some real power gains and mostly long lived engine. And don't overlook intank pump upgrade to give cp3 easier job.
Really been fan of channel, showing what other are afraid, mistakes which we're all making.
It breathed a lot for a while but we blamed on large ring gaps. #6 was fine but I see your point. We have many upgrade options
@@ryanp6138 Correct me if I'm wrong but melted pistons usually mean too small ring gaps, so the engine overrev was due to too big ring gaps and the melted pistons because of faulty injectors? This piezo units are much "faster" than solenoid ones, but even with longer injection times solenoid ones tends to hold better. You also can't trust test always, because they test usually with oem pressure and everyone are running higher pressures with remaps. Anyway looking forward to 2020 to see some BMW injectors upgrades on your site
Seeing the video, that scared the FK out of me, for a moment I thought it was going to turn into a sustained high revving runaway and just blow up.
Had exactly the same happen to my M57 with the Cast Iron block and nobody had ever seen exhaust valves eaten up like that before...must have been in excess of 1500 degrees and it was out down to a leaking injector, block scrap and head too. I got them overhauled by a Bosch certified repair center for 900 odd euro and then had to rebuild the motor with another block and head. Just breached 3k kms and so far so good but what a stupid design and there is zero warning...but my god even in stock form the old battle bus, e61, pulls like an absolute train!
Is this any way to program a computer to cut diesel if rpm are above normal
yes, the limiter should do that but in this case it was drinking oil!
Hi gays i have issue with my m57 231ps. Low compression on cilinders 2 and 4. Take off cilinder head and every things look perfekt, except for the valves on the 2nd and 4th cylinders. I think it rolled a cam on the exhaust shaft. Are there interchangeable shafts from older models 218ps 204ps 184 ps?
Sorry to hear! We have not tried this, the part numbers are different but we're not sure if these would be interchangeable.

The swirl flaps made it happen or the egr.. maybe the def fluids was low or it needed a regeneration

Why these bmw diesel engines have intake manifold with 2 runners? One set on normal location, and another set near injectors?
They have swirl flaps. It's emissions stuff. Swirl flaps are generally deleted on most M57 and newer BMW diesel engines.
They have one Swirl and one Tangential intake port per cylinder, which can each improve performance under different conditions. One for low rpm one for high, they don't have anything with swirl faps, the M47(136) has no flaps but still has two ports per cyl

Shoot me down if this is a shite idea, but couldn’t you run a c02 intercooler sprayer (with some water spray from a screen wash bottle for extra chill!) but also have an extra solenoid hooked up your intake to blast c02 in there in the event of a runaway?
Or would c02 not really touch a bad runaway? My mate who works at Kia said the worst one he saw, he had to pull it up to a wall and stall it against the wall. Apparently nothing else would stop the thing.
Surely a block of something solid covering the air intake would stall it, can run if no air

How dfq, did this, held that rpm ? If you do some calculations at 10k rpm with that rods/pistons you would likely faint.

If i understand correctly it wasn't the rpm that killed it. I hoped to get an answer why can't diesels rev high, but nope. My expectation was piston weight would destroy rod bearings at high rpm, but no. I need someone knowledge-able to explain to me why no 8k revving diesel exists.

Fast, because you hear that ticking sound everytime injector fires, because pistons are a bit heavier to take the constant "knocking" and also compression-ignition ignites the mixture faster

Buy a 330d if you have a bit of money to spend on mods. 335ds are best with just a map and a Intercooler.

Any interest in the B57 quad turbo? Am I correct in assuming that that engine does not use the Piezoelectric injectors?
Might want to measure the exhaust gas temps per cylinder if you are not already as the cracking in the exhaust suggests the temps are too high, this could also lead to localised oil burning leading to the runaway.

Your durations and egt are within safe limits, why do you still suspect injectors being too small?
The piezo injectors on these with a cp3 and bumped rail pressure can fuel enough to reach close to 500bhp.
Even brand new injectors would be way too extended to make 500hp. We will have a solution shortly.

Can you not stick some 535D injectors in from a post 2008 motor? They ran my E61 535d at 396hp for 40,000 miles trouble free...... admittedly they weren’t running on a track other than a couple of track days.
I Remember reading a forum post a few years back about re capping the 330d ones with the 535d tips? But I can’t remember where I saw that.
The later ones are totally different, early ones different too and you can't get Nozzles for a Piezo injector. They are just crap!

A few years ago I stripped a bmw engine with a blown piston I fitted a second hand engine 6months later engine blew again same cylinder turned our Ecu was the culprit over fuelling that cylinder common fault apparently
I don't think the ECU is common to fail like that, I'll be sure to report back if it is, we will scope the signals to be sure
Sounds like you need to machine the head to fit decent injectors.
Maybe fit an AFR gauge to monitor 🤷🏻♂️

inspect the oil separator housing there is some kind of membrane and a zyklone filter maybe they got damaged

Not much bigger if they are or not dependent on model years. We have a solution for bigger injectors, B57s are not as big as we need!

This seems like the place to ask. I looked around for info on what an n47 can take, the 4 cylinder diesel bmw. I looked around, all I found was some rubbish about a tune box or a turbo from a 3 liter. I want to know what can that engine take for real, none of that crap, I mean, the standard, proper path to modifications, make an exhaust manifold, make an intake (I assume there aren't options out there considering my luck finding info), do something about the injectors, aftermarket turbo. What is the power that engine can take before the engine itself becomes the problem? Where I live anything over 2l becomes a huge problem because of retarded taxing. That's why I'm interested in the n47. Will rods play the peek-a-boo game at say 500hp? Best I found was something like 260 to 300, but that was with stock parts, or the 330/335d turbo at best. Not what I would consider proper modifications.
We have a 320d project coming up. Stay tuned and buy a 3.0 if you want 500hp! Haha

Check injector holes size, they could’ve burned uneven resulting in same flow, but really different pattern and drop size. It’s an extremely rare issue.
The machine to check the flows is quite sophisticated so I would not expect something that major could happen but never say never
