In 1984, German free jazz bassist Peter Kowald and others organized the Sound Unity Festival, a free jazz festival that occurred May 30 to June 3, 1984 at the CUANDO Center on the lower east side of Manhattan. Here is a blistering set by a quartet Kowald formed for the festival. A young Marilyn Crispell played some very Cecil Tayloresque piano. At a later point in her career she took to heart a suggestion Anthony Braxton made to her to "play less notes" (she played with Braxton for more than a decade), but at this time she played cascades of notes and clusters. This is high-intensity stuff played by a free jazz a-team supergroup, with each player contributing to a heart-attack inducing set of 45 minutes of continuous high-octane improvisation.
I received this from Rich Williams in 1985, and i believe it is his recording. Uploaded solely for educational purposes and historical interest. Enjoy.

Hey Rich! yeah, like almost 40 years! I hope you've been well. Let me know if you have any objection to me putting up your recordings. I will give you you credit when it's something I know I got from you (which after all these years I won't always remember). Was the Stone Tiger - Other End show your recording?

Doing well...Retired early to Vermont 7 years ago./ Its a great life with the exception of the music scene which pretty much consists of middle-aged white guys with acoustic guitars and flannel shirts. I still go to New Haven/NY/Northampton for shows.
By all means post away, Yes that Stonetiger was one of mine. ....BTW Percy is still going strong

@@richwilliams7927 Yeah Vermont is very cool. I was there a lot when my son was in college. Haha middle-aged white guys with acoustic guitars. Sounds like me (except wish I was still middle-aged). I saw that the videos of Percy's current band. It's great that he's still going, but nothing beats Stone Tiger when they were "on" (like that Other End show).
