👊🏾😎👍🏽On the Sunday Family Play list... thanks for sharing
Heard *you don't know what love is* a hundred times: a young Billy Harper one of our best versions. Right up there with Booker Irvine imo.
Booker Ervine? How 'bout Ervin, my man, it's Ervin. C'mon ...
And Sonny Rollins
Very complicated and fabulous sofistication !!
Another playlist for my plein air session!
One of my favorite editions of The Jazz Messengers! This band were very explosive, reminiscent of the 1962-1964 band of Wayne Shorter, Freddie Hubbard, Curtis Fuller, Cedar Walton and Reggie Workman!
Wonderful band! Jazz Messengers for ever ❤️
Out of sight !! Thank you so much.
Love from Switzerland
If they ever do a movie about the musical journey and influence of Art Blakey, Wesley Snipes should be the lead actor. His resemblance and acting chops are impeccable.
Absolutely. I want to see this movie.
Oh yes..! Couldn't agree more 👏 👌...
Fantastic! Thank You!
I really wish I could have been there and seen this wonderful performance up close

@@renedehilster5735 No, it's Ronnie Mathews.
Wow. Heard all these cats plenty but never the bassist. Larry Evans? He sounds like a monster. Did he play around New York much. Who with?I cut my teeth on Art Blakey and Horace Silver and saw many versions of groups they led but never this bassistN and as I say he sounds like a monster. Any other recordings or video performances w him?
Is for the first time I see solo drummer
This is just class waooooo
Wow. What a masterpeice of performance by Blakey & The Messengers. I love that this showcases trombonist Julian Priester in his prime.
* parabens!! Tudo de bom
Increible
they were groovin, man!
Anybody who has played drums, know that keeping that kind of energy, for that kind of time, is really only something Art Blakey, and Elvin could do
Dont forgot about Tony Williams.
@@scotty6124 God rest Tony's sole , he left us way to soon.
💯💯💯
@@TheLatinking3 that's when it was still jazz.
Hmm, thankfully Tony was mentioned! Jack DeJohnette? Max Roach? Tain? Blade? Vinnie? Smitty? BR? Omar? Ok, stepping off soapbox.
C'est simplement génialissime...
my gos c'est tous des dingues ! le bassiste my God !.....
Pura leyenda
Whenever I see Art Blakey I hear Wynton Marsalis say "Ladies and Gentlemen.. The great Art Blakey."

I'd love to see a complete personnel list and song list.
waouh
Pure gold!
Wow, Elvin demolished Art Blakey’s drums. Tremendous!
Could someone list the names of the tunes played? Especially the ballad played by Elvin Jones' group?
"For Heaven Sake" written by Don Meyers, Elise Bretton and Sherman Edwards made famous by Billie Holiday record "Lady in Satin". I'll get to other tunes later if time allows.
I think Art had to put his drums back together again after Elvin got through with them...dude hit hard...
Wonderful! Any idea where this was filmed?
Copenhagen Jazz festival 1968.
@@vova47 rotterdam 1968
Would there be a recording available of this incredible show?
59:55 this is for me when i revisit this video

How and why is Elvin’s Trio left off this video info?
"I love how this coffee jazz music creates a perfect background for a casual and laid-back brunch with friends and family. So fun and relaxed!"
Buhaina forever!!!!
l' Amérique !

what's the tune around the 10minutes mark??

I don`t know what the attitude BS was. But for me Sunny Murray put the Mojo on these cats.
Wonder who sunny was gigging with, a set of Albert Ayler would have been very cool!
Is that Julian Priester on trombone at the top of the set? 😃
Its Slide Hampton
Who’s the bass player?
year ?
1968
Is that Ronnie Mathews on piano?
Damm...Joe Farrell!!!! I guess I forgot....he was tremendous....this video is nuts!!!!
who is that sax player? 2:15
The great Billy Harper
Was Sunny Murray's six minute drum solo starting at 1:05:52 really that boring? Blakey and Elvin were both looking down, trying to appear respectable but Ronnie Matthews was caught napping at the piano at 1:09:56
Yes it was.
@@andrasberta What are you saying?
at this level, these musicians are not playing what is real, that is, what you hear. it is beyond that. they are playing their transcendence, their soul, their atman.
The word boring has no meaning here.
It is you who do not feel anything. It is a long work. jazz is not a McDonald's. Think about it and meditate on it...sorry for the violence of my words.
@@13bKalighatBrodie boring DEFINITELY has a meaning in jazz. They were clearly bored during Sunny’s solo
Super boring and way too long. I was doing something else just listening to this and pulled up the window to skip ahead... seeing them also bored shitless cracked me up.
That’s not Horace silver
in the end yes
Horace Silver? No. Elvin Jones trio
Horace Silver starts at 1.21
01:21:43
Missed the end of the video, eh?
I miss film noir. Let me smoke and drink when I watch a film at the cinema.
SUNNY MURRAY......!!!!!!!!!
Yes!!!!!!
