Bro I still remember getting the DVD for Cars on my Birthday and rewatching always brings me back to that day, watching the movie with my family in the evening and everyone having a blast. Good times.
My son just turned 16 on Sunday. His first sentence was right after watching the movie on dvd. His daycare teacher taught the children simple sign language because most of them were not speaking yet. As the credits were rolling, he turned to me, thought for a couple seconds, and then did the sign for "more" and said "cars". It took me a second to realize he was saying "more cars". So, we watched it again. He loved watching it and we would play it on his portable dvd player on long road trips. This movie will always be remembered by me because of that one moment.
I noticed that also, when McQueen is in California and the race is starting, the network talks about how a bunch of businesses around the state are closed for the race. Guess what, one of the clips during this highlight shows a sign of a closed area. This sign points to none other than the town of Emeryville, the location of the Pixar HQ.
Was living in the Bay Area, San Jose, when this came out. Saw CARS on it’s first day. When the Emeryville “closed” sign appeared on the screen, it got a big laugh.
Inline 6 is superior in many ways. And a V12 gets those same benefits too because they're basically 2 inline 6 engines joined at the crank. The primary and secondary forces cancel each other out. They don't need counterbalance and run really smooth. More modern inline 6 engines are popular with tuners for this reason and many others. They're long and narrow which is good for cramming big turbos in the engine bay. There's only one cylinder head which makes rebuilds more simple. I'm a big fan of inline 6 engines. Like the Nissan RB, Toyota 1JZ/2JZ, and I think my favourite is the Ford Barra.
If you want to know about *The Cozy Cone Motel* yeah it's like a clever little twist the motels made out of caution cones which of course cars usually try to avoid but now they're going to sleep in them which I have to admit is pretty funny
The tuner scene where DJ, Boost and Wingo pull up next to Mack is a reference to The Fast and the Furious where the Civics with the green underglow pull up next to the Rodgers truck to hijack it
Actually the first race in Cars is meant to be the last race of the cup, the one that defines the winners of the whole season. Its not Lightnings first race they call him "rookie" because its his first season. The yellow stripe thing on a racer's first race is true but i dont think that applies here. Nice vid tho
A driver can run up to I think 7 races in a season and still be considered a rookie the next season. But must run the yellow stripe until their official sophomore season.

Little surprised they didn’t call attention to the pizza planet truck that is in the opening scene for the final race. Small detail which is probably why but still pretty cool.
The main purpose of curb feelers was to protect your fancy hubcaps from getting banged up on the curb. A lot of cars back then didn't even have a passenger side mirror, so it was especially difficult to tell how far from the curb you are. I put a set on my Lincoln and they're life savers!

The main purpose of curb feelers was to protect your fancy hubcaps from getting banged up on the curb. A lot of cars back then didn't even have a passenger side mirror, so it was especially difficult to tell how far from the curb you are. I put a set on my Lincoln and they're life savers!
I first saw them in 80's here in Australia.

"Car Feelers", yeah, I know someone with a suburban in my neighborhood that has 'em up front. I just thought they were rant metal spokes sticking out that the owners didn't notice.
Another fun fact, in the race in California, when we first see Bob and Darrell, in the background, next to the Elvis car, you can see the Pizza Planet truck from Toy Story.
Race cars don’t need headlights because the track is always lit. So is my brother, but he still needs headlights.
