One is a phone and one is a heads up display. You can ask, "What's the difference between doing a video conference at my PC using Skype vs doing video conferencing using my phone?". When you shrink the processor, battery and all the RF stuff into a form factor that can be worn as a pair of glasses..that by itself is an amazing innovation.
it will also be an alert system, an easy way to make reminders on the fly, an easy way to capture precious moments such as a childs first steps or words, and since they are letting developers pre purchase im assuming a lot of neat and useful additions will be made to help you throughout the day.
Its not recording. It is live video. Streaming wirelessly through a cell phone network. Oh, and it has voice recognition, can call/text, and it will have an API to program to do almost anything you want. This was just PART of the 6 hour long event.
The best thing about this demo is the fact it was a live shot transmitted through "I think" cell towers. Not sure on that, but transmitting live data through glasses is pretty cool. Camera in glasses... Been around a long time.
Now THIS shows exactly the difference between Apple and Google. Google REALLY steps out of the box, while Apple maintains it practical. Yeah, Apple's products are geared for the current consumer market but Google's stuff is just ridiculously exciting!
That was cool, and for the trolls saying what's the point, it's a proof of concept. You just can't expect to have a hud with 'kill count', etc straight out the box, technology takes time to progress. Just enjoy what you see and quit being so negative
i quite like the look, its sleek and non intruding, makes me feel like we are really entering the future, plus i hate looking through glasses all day but if they make an AR gaming version i will have to get both the explorer and gamer lol
Streaming video live over cell towers while skydiving is pretty damn impressive. A heck of a lot better than helmet cams. Dif I mention the live part while skydiving even the military wud b lucky to do this
I'll buy it when it has the recorder on the bottom of the glasses so you get a more realistic record with the nose and bridge of your nose in the peripheral vision, Then I'd DEFINITELY buy it, because those first person videos or movies never have that aspect and it doesn't look right.
That has got to have been the most awesome live event ever. Apple have a lot to do to beat that one. Who knows next it will be an orbital drop and then even Steve Jobs may appear for a just one more thing. No disrespect intended to Steve Jobs or his family
People don't seem to understand that these glasses sent just a camera attached to glasses. They are augmented reality meaning they have all the abilities a smart phone has a kind of android interface they are not like go pro. That's just a camera these are mush more powerfulf. Have ye not seen the first google glasses video ?
Body worn cameras have been around for a while. I use a $38 key chain camera hidden on a dirt bike helmet visor to protect myself from false accusations dealing with a trespass problem. There are some examples on this channel, motormanmagoo. If google glasses catch on there will be a lot more not so pretty videos like mine.
well, i use Samsung Galaxy 7.7 with USB host attached, so video can be captured in real time. For hangouts you probably have to write an app for android, haven't done it yet, coz i fine using skype with front camera.
the new thing here is that from this tiny easily wearable cam the image is streamed live into a google hangout. also, there's a lot of augmented reality stuff coming for google glass (not shown off here).
dont worry, when it releases somebody with the sdk will make a power level reader, hell, it might even tell you power level based on facial recognition reading facial expressions!
It's funny that they're wearing GoPro wingsuits, because what they're demonstrating is basically just a glorified GoPro camera. Sure, I guess it's cool that they can live-broadcast to a "hangout", but I don't really *need* that. What I originally thought was really cool about Glass was the idea of "terminator vision", and they're not showing that capability at all here. There should've been a crosshairs overlay on Moscone Center telling them where to fly to!
Are you kidding me? The actual point is that this was all done live, you were viewing everything directly through Google Glass(es), via live network on Google+... in case you can't wrap your head around this, this is actually ground breaking! *sheesh!*, go back to iOS where technology is still 3 years outdated.
If they have to do all that in order to create some buzz, it would seem the product itself isn't creating much. I mean, I can't recall hearing any of my friends talking about wanting to camp out all night to buy it. Generally when someone needs to go to lengths like this, there's a problem. Reminds me of the hype around the Segway and this would seem to be aimed at pretty much the same market segment. It's too geeky for Peoria, fine for Santa Clara.
It's coming out later this year
It’s coming out never womp womp
the reactions when they open the door are priceless
awesome video and i can't freakin wait to get mine
Did you ever get them?

they will indeed, available as an app from google play

This presentation is the pinnacle of nerdgasm inducing badassery.
It's not a consumer product for mass marketing. It's mainly for enthusiast who want to work with the concept. Google's "diy hacker" initiative.
Watching this was so exciting!
Big Brother is going to love these
That was cool, and for the trolls saying what's the point, it's a proof of concept. You just can't expect to have a hud with 'kill count', etc straight out the box, technology takes time to progress. Just enjoy what you see and quit being so negative
It is a real hangout, seek out the full version of Google I/O day 1, and you will understand.
love how a gopro logo made it into a promo for google glasses
The power of technology that Google is demonstrating now is borderline scary. Very exciting though!
Best reply comment of all time.
Ah. Mazing. What a great demo!
Best. Demo. Ever.
ONE CAN ONLY HOPE- HAPPY CAPS DAY
i quite like the look, its sleek and non intruding, makes me feel like we are really entering the future, plus i hate looking through glasses all day but if they make an AR gaming version i will have to get both the explorer and gamer lol
There are no issue doing so.
In fact, it's very viable and easy to do, since I can just tape it to a helmet.
Like I say, what the difference?
Streaming video live over cell towers while skydiving is pretty damn impressive. A heck of a lot better than helmet cams. Dif I mention the live part while skydiving even the military wud b lucky to do this
Wow! What. A. PRESENTATION!!!
OMG the second time now that i need to watch a comercial for 30 seconds without the option to skip......
This is awesome! Mind blowing !
I'm a Microsoft fan, but this gadget is GREAT.
you mean exactly the same but with an "apple' logo and rising the price by three times? If so, i totaly agree.
That was really awesome!!!
Better than any Hollywood action film
If this is solid it would seriously rock!! I just wonder what the price will be...
difference between this and a iphone on 3g stuck to your head?
Seeing through someone’s eyes in real time is very 9ice!
*takes off the google glasses*
ITS OVER 9000 !!!!!
GREAT SHOW!!
Sergey Brin!
Google! You are just AMAZING!
google glass did get a pretty good shot of the gopro logo on their jackets on the way down...
I'll buy it when it has the recorder on the bottom of the glasses so you get a more realistic record with the nose and bridge of your nose in the peripheral vision, Then I'd DEFINITELY buy it, because those first person videos or movies never have that aspect and it doesn't look right.
7:25 THE MOST ENTHUSIASTIC WOOHOO'S YOU WILL EVER HEAR!
The camera mounted to dudes chest is for just in case they loose the live feed with class something like that. It's awsome I want it.
That has got to have been the most awesome live event ever. Apple have a lot to do to beat that one. Who knows next it will be an orbital drop and then even Steve Jobs may appear for a just one more thing. No disrespect intended to Steve Jobs or his family
how much is it?
Do you know, they used military technologi in order to be able to stream during the parachute jump since 3G isn't that good while moving to fast....
Wonder how much battery it uses
Man you gotta love Google
Now that would be a great app!
I think that lead wing suit guy is JT Holmes. My man!
That would be great use in combat zone. If it hasn't been in use yet.
Looks very promising!!!
Why do people keep saying this is just a camera, does your cammera live stream to a hangout and get signal a mile up? Mine sure doesn't
How were they able to keep the internet connection?
People don't seem to understand that these glasses sent just a camera attached to glasses. They are augmented reality meaning they have all the abilities a smart phone has a kind of android interface they are not like go pro. That's just a camera these are mush more powerfulf. Have ye not seen the first google glasses video ?
so it's a gopro with internet sharing?...
WHO IN THE RIGHT MIND WOULD DISLIKE THIS VIDEO. OH WAIT WE HAVE OUR 99 FINE BOYS. WHO DISLIKED THIS VIDEO,
If you plan to, can you please wait till you get your google glasses so we can all see how it went wrong in 500 different ways? LOL.
Im not even gonna front this waS so much better than apples event they host annually
Apple says: "thanks for the idea, we'll make it 10000000 times better by next year"

Really? So any video glasses can connect to Google+ and do hangouts, and connect to cell phones to stream live?
Lot of difference between wireless camera and wireless streaming camera.
WELL THATS TRUE BUT WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU ALREADY HAVE GLASSES? DO YOU ADD THEM TO THE FRAME?
¿where are the apps? ¿is it just a some glasses with a camera?
I love my apple TV! best way to stream netflix, way better than versions I've used on blu ray players, roku, or smart tvs
Why does the guy at the beginning remind me of Robert Downey Jr as Iron man lol...
So, it's a camera phone without apps?
to give you skydivers POV...
Google Glass will be good for POV stuff :P
I thought the coolest part was flying through the crowd on the bikes.
the new thing here is that from this tiny easily wearable cam the image is streamed live into a google hangout.
also, there's a lot of augmented reality stuff coming for google glass (not shown off here).
So why did they not show it ?
THIS IS SICK!!!!! AWESOME!!!!!
Yeah, that's just awesome!! Google invented wireless video camera!
This will bring all the fail-videos to a completly new level... And especially drunk people :D
I see a ton of lawsuits and bans coming when someone walks in front of a car when wearing these. We are to sue happy to have such tech.
And now glass is no more
dont worry, when it releases somebody with the sdk will make a power level reader, hell, it might even tell you power level based on facial recognition reading facial expressions!
Can i get these with a prescription
I don't think that's possible unless they fit the glasses around a camera. Either that or Google has to develop an app similar to what a pvr can do.
gopro is probably an oem for google thats why

So at last Zeki Müren can see us too? Cool stuff.
Me too, so that in the near future when everybody wears them, any person can be located anywhere in the world.
In 2014 when its released it will probably be 500-750
That's cool....but will they introduce a 720p hd camera ?
Безумная презентация!
What's our view?
Craaaaaaaazy presentation !!!!
Are you kidding me? Is it awful that my first thought after seeing this was: "I can have the same glasses as Sailor Mercury now!"?
Everybody gets to become cyborgs in 10 years
So they've strapped a video camera to a pair of sunglasses and jumped out of a plane? How is this progress?
so.........
what the difference between this and my sister doing video conferring on Skype with me via smartphones?
If they have to do all that in order to create some buzz, it would seem the product itself isn't creating much. Apple Keynote : Free sweater to attendees.
Google I/O : Demos a device with live skydiving plus free Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7 and Nexus Q to attendees.
Looks like google is using Pranav Mistry's sixth sense technology
I like PC's more than macs, iOS more than android (Because of the app store, its populer)
and yes. Chrome kicks safaris ass!
太帅了。这个Demo太成功了!
"VAGETTA, WHAT DOES THE SCOUTER SAY ABOUT HIS POWER LEVEL?"
line twist on live broadcast. priceless
That was cool as hell
