After seeing your video, I did manage to get mine open, but it just about took a pipe wrench! I put a little silicone grease on the threads to make it easier in the future. I bought the XF 0.3mm needle tip version. It writes smoothly, not scratchy but with some feedback, something like a really well tuned fountain pen. I'm not getting any bleed-through or feathering using the high quality paper in a Rhodia web notebook.

I absolutely LOVE these EnerGel RTX pens! They're my favorite pens, and I'm obsessed with them! I buy as many as I can, lol. I first came across them at my local Staples, and decided to try one, and I've been hooked ever since. A side note - the alloy versions now come in gold. This is seriously my favorite gel pen, and my favorite pen overall. I don't let anyone borrow them, lol. My second favorite would be the Paper Mate InkJoy gel pens.
Too bad the body of the energels are a bit flimsy, I slapped my ink cart into a Pilot G2 shell and holy crap it's nice. Comfy, well built, and amazing ink. Seriously considering getting a metal pilot g2 just for my energel inserts. XD
Hey Rix, if you want to make the absolute best Walmart gel pen combo, try to put the Energel ink cartridge into a "Pilot G2 Limited" pen, the end result is what I believe to be the best possible pen you can get from Walmart. I was writing with such pen a minute before I saw your video.
Who the hell shops at Wal-mart anymore? I generally buy everything online its far cheaper and I buy my groceries from a Grocery store called, "Kroger" and its all name brand and still much cheaper than Wal-mart

Well, closer to $12. I'll definitely do a video review on the G2 Limited. And yes, I possess a couple of Energel pens so I'll borrow the cartridge to do a comparison. If you use a different cartridge in the G2 Limited, then it really isn't a G2 anymore but a hybrid. So you apparently like the look and feel of the G2 but not the stock ink or point. You like the ink/point of the Energel better, but not the look and feel. Right?
Techincally yes, however the page penetration of the Energel is massive, which is why I only use the Energel for small notes, while for full writing I still use the G2 ink.
Then try the Pentel refill KFR7. The KFR7 is a hybrid ink design for check writing and is also a hybrid ink. Its a mixture of regular ballpoint ink and gel. It writes slightly lighter but doesn't bleed nearly as much and is still tons better than Pilot.

Probably the best ink. The pen itself seems a little too thick and long to hold. I put the LRN5 cartridge into uni207 pen. Better balance
Thats what ive done. Pentel ink on a uniball 207 body. I prefer the thinner body

I too just picked up a pack of these at my Wal Mart. And like you, my opinion of it is pretty much the same as yours. So, here's my 👍👍👍👍👍👍.

Pentel EnerGel X 1.0 is my favorite. RTX is almost the same but I like the look of the X more :)
I love barcode. Especially if it's Japanese barcode on hard to find Japanese pens.
