I have a spread of 4 fathom 30s, 2 with 30 lb mono 2 with 50 lb braid, the mono ones are used for freshwater catfish as well as pier chunking for kings and chunking for mahi, the ones with 50 lb are used for bottom fishing, bridge fishing, and they are just great all round rrels
Nice review. I live in Baja Sur, La Ribera area, East Cape, Sea of Cortez. The yellowtail bite is on and we have caught yellowtail the last three times out. - I have had a high interest in the Penn 25N - like you I have other Fathoms (60 2S) which are great reels and can handle anything - including marlin. I’m into jigging and this year invested in a SJ set up, with an AVET 500 N 2 SP. I almost purchased the PENN 25. AND - I may for a backup. Hope to see how your’s works out. Again - thanks for the review. Tight lines.
Thanks for all the support brother!! Just bought the brand new Penn fathom 80 2 speed lever drag this week!! Can’t wait to fish it!! I’ll do a review on it soon! Tight lines
@@mroblesmr25 yeah absolutely!! I was super far down south but the ticket was small yo yos. The smallest ones you can get your hands on! And without a doubt the 150g coltsnipers we’re getting bit really well!
I did 50lb braid and I’ll interchange the top shot of mono out depending on what kind of fishing I’ll be doing. When I went down to Baja in February I was fishing 50lb top shot. Hope this helps 🤙
I do!!! I have a 2 part bola trip on my channel, and I’m headed down there in the beginning of next month!! What do you want your jigging reel to be for?? Yellowtail or grouper?
@@yosiyoarcan6684 if you’re jigging for yellows I would 100% buy the 25n. Cast really well and plenty of line capacity for yellowtail. The grouper fishing I was doing was in 800 feet and I was fishing like 80lb mono. 40n was better suited for that style of fishing
@@yosiyoarcan6684 if the tackle shop your at has any of the older model fathoms I would recommend buying the older models. I made a video in regards to the problems I’ve been experiencing with the new fathoms
It actually cast the iron pretty well!! But I believe they might be doing a recall on these reels if they haven’t already.. stay tuned, posting a follow up video on my channel soon
nice video brotha 🤙
Tight lines ✌

How is the casting of these? I know the star drag is very cast- able, but I wonder if there is any difference with the lever drag.
I'm sold man! Tasty bit of kit. Might need an update if / when it survives the trip 😎
Stay tuned! Going to post a lot of content fishing it soon
Did u go down to baja? How did the reel do? Im going to ensenada next week hoping to break mine in ...
Reel worked flawlessly!!! Feel free to check out my Baja videos! I made 4 different parts 🤙
Nice, I saw the videos. Good trip... What cold sniper would you recommend? Any tips

Yeeeew!!!! Lots of Baja content coming soon!! I’m coming home tomorrow!!
Would it work for speed jigging ?
What pound test you put in it?

Do you go down to BOLA for yellow tail ? i am torn between the 25N or the 40N for jigging.

Thanks. I just got in the 40N and it’s not smooth while on high gear, is that normal?
Honestly, I'm not too sure but I would think that its not normal
Sick reel, breh
Thanks dj homes!!
Love it!
So glad!
I’m looking for a rockfish reel but it would be cool to also be able to use it for yellowtail. Do you think the 15 narrow is too small for yellowtail?
25 narrow is exactly what you want!! Most versatile size reel, I use mine for most of the fishing i do on the west coast! Just not for the big stuff!
