I have a spread of 4 fathom 30s, 2 with 30 lb mono 2 with 50 lb braid, the mono ones are used for freshwater catfish as well as pier chunking for kings and chunking for mahi, the ones with 50 lb are used for bottom fishing, bridge fishing, and they are just great all round rrels

Not sure if this is helpful but mine 25nld2’s spool is tight at free spool so I opened it up, broke it down and come to find out the inside are barely greased up and there’s no oil on the bearings once I greased it and oiled it. It works perfectly fine.

I’m new to fishing and I didn’t understand

Prior to the ban on white shark I hooked one from my boat incidental to thresher fishing. I was using a Penn 50 wide reel, and roller guide rod with a whole bonito as bait. Was able to get a visual on the shark as it was moving slow. There is no way you could land one unless you had way heavier gear. I cut my line after about 3/4 hour as the shark didn't seem to realize it was hooked, very poor sport. I don't know why anyone would try to mess with one.

Just had the same problem with a 40 narrow LD. When I started stripping it down, the cam follower had started to chip apart. It's plastic in the Fathom II reels. I was not too pleased to find that out.

I have one of the new fathoms as well. Mine seems to be doing something similar. It looks like it’s corroding underneath the paint causing it to bubble and break away. It hasn’t hit anything. I contacted Penn about it but because it is one month it off warranty they don’t want to cover it. I’m not happy with this model of reel or penn’s customer service.
