So a Talent show trying to find the next big star MUST sift through tens of thousands to find just four half decent starting options. Then these genuinly capable producers have to polish these rare talented people - combine them wit good material & get them ready to face the toughest judges of all. The paying public. Show business is possibly the hardest job in the world - even world class talents fail. Most only get one brief chance to show what they can do. So one bad moment, one slightly dubious song choice, or three bum notes can utterly destroy decades of hard work & courage. That's why, when Simon does see a genuinely unknown brilliant star step onto that stage - the PERSON getting the biggest shock of all - IS HIM! We've all seen some of those rare moments. But they tried thousands of normal people trying to find one genuine star.
