    I use most of these techniques, but my favourite would probably be pinch harmonics. I bend a lot but usually just one string bends. I think tap harmonics are very cool as well but I use them in moderation.

      Normal string bending is also fun, I would agree tap harmonics are neat, I'd love to see them more in riffs and not just solos

    Nice to see that a lot of the techniques used by metal players in the 1980s are still being used.

    The offbeat pick hammer, or pedal points (pedal tones too- they are the same thing) is definitely something I would consider a punk style technique.... one of the craziest sounding riffs is from "M+Ms" an old blink182 song. Tom really killed it on that one.

    • @anndynegative

      That riff in particular is super fun to play. I didn't know the name was pedal points, that's awesome

      @@anndynegative it's absolutely the most fun riff to play on stage, but if you make any little mistake EVERYONE will absolutely hear it. Lol risk/reward is high, but it's a guaranteed crowd pleaser! Plus, I've always really liked the idea of driving to Madagascar.....

    I like harmonics on bass. A lot more options with the the thicker strings. Also, my bass isn't fully set up yet. Like it is, but the action is just in the middle, so not too high or too low. I also play bass through a guitar amp, which works pretty well for me.

    pinch harmonics and tapping to me are metal tricks...im old...my punk knowledge ends around the year 2000...i watched the punk rock mba video finn did on hardcore from the late 90s and on...but it sounds metal to me...my hardcore was black flag and minor threat...those type bands...i love feedback and slides and that tom delonge off beat pick hammer as you called it lol...i dont hear the volume roll up on all the small things

    Nice video.
    Just a note: when it comes to feedback, while it can work that the sound is vibrating the pickup, more often the sound waves coming out of the speakers are causing sympathetic resonances in the strings.
    That's why feedback tends to go away when you mute the strings (although, if you're working with ridiculous volumes and insane levels of amp induced compression, you might need both hands)
    Well done finishing a novel BTW. That ain't easy!

    • @anndynegative
      @anndynegative  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are absolutely correct about the feedback! It's tough to get it with a guitar and small studio monitors, ideally you have a guitar amp to stand in front of. Thanks!!!
