8 mins in and feeling nostalgic, I never thought listening to blink, sum 41 or any of these bands I would ever feel old… I’m 34 and I wish I could go back to no Facebook or twitter and have MSN messenger after school after the dial up if no one was using the house phone and actually go out skating with my mates and having some sneaky beers
Same here man just turned 34 feel same way … those were the best days . No 2 push long boards lol just my Element and some sweaty ass gravel rides to McDonald’s with the group .
I’ve been getting teased and judged a lot because I play in a band and people keep saying I can’t use a telecaster for pop punk, I’m wondering if that’s true or not?
@@jakeknapp6833nah not really, if your talking about the early 2000s Blink-182 sound it mostly came from the SoCal skate punk sound that exploded in the 90’s, just check out bands like Screeching Weasel, millencolin, nofx who are all known for their fast, hooky and melodic style of punk rock. Oh and you can’t forget about the ramones and how much they influenced these pop punk bands!
LOVE your channel and PUNK in general! Everything from 90s skate punk like NOFX, Lagwagon, Face To Face to Pop-Punk and Emo. It is all great and I still listen to it all to this day!
The gear an options for younger kids today is soooooooo much better than what was avaliable 30 years ago, even 15 years! With the amount of options avaliable today the variables of genres can be insane. Eventually after spending tons of money, I think everybody just goes guitar to cable an amp 🤷🏻♂️
Omg thanks you very much👍❤️🔥 am a beginner who have learned guitar for five months and I have seek a perfect pop punk tone since I got my guitar 🎸 Playing "my friend over you "now😎
I’ve started a blink tribute recently. I’m using a fender player strat with a hot rails in the bridge and picked up the black star silver line deluxe 100w. It’s the tits
Green Day gets a lot more clarity because they're not that distorted to begin with. Billie Joe doesn't use more than a Blues Driver, as shown on the Rig Rundown video. Doesn't go as extreme as a DS-1 or similar.
If you're turning down volume on your guitar to reduce the gain, and you bring it back with the compressor - aren't you just driving the amp again? Or is it set to a volume as not to drive the amp, but simply to even out your quiet playing? Great demo!
My gigging rig Laney IRF Dual Top (bought from PMT don't you know), into a Harley Benton 1X12 V30 loaded cab. Lead channel for the American style tone, for Offspring, New Found Glory, Blink and Sum 41. Clean channel with a Nu-X Plexi Crunch for Green Day. It's been my gigging rig since I got it. The Laney Dual Top is a pocket monster! I tried the Nu-X Recto pedal as well, which does work well with my other amp (a Marshall JTM45 clone that I built myself some years ago) but the amp is a tank and at my age I've down sized to save my back. My current guitars are Vintage VRS110 PRS clones with the Iron Gear Dirty Torque bridge. None of this gear breaks the bank. My Tone has never been better.
4:50 THANK YOU. It's only happened to me once but I was "corrected" on a band being emo instead of pop punk. Like... it's pretty much the same damn thing bruh
no matter whats gear , everything in dagan's hand ,always sound great, never disappointed you, even sometime play those short scale toy looking guitar, still make it work and sound good.
I don't have any fancy stuff. I have a Marshall 410H and a Marshall Cabinet. I have 6 Channels on my floor board. I programmed them by myself. That's all I need to have a great tone. Blink 182, Greenday, Sum 41, Simple Plan, Good Charlotte and even Metal Stuff. It just fits😎🎸🥁❤
Although I quite like MCR's sound, I'm not keen on MCR for bringing in the whole emo thing around 2007 with the Black Parade. The whole message of pop punk was "You're young! Be stupid, fun, and enjoy life while you can!". I specifically remember being 17 at the peak of it and agreeing with the message, especially when I saw my grandmother at 80 slowly dying in a hospice. It made me think that if she could be 17 for a day she'd be fun and stupid end enjoy every moment. But the message of emo is a load of self pity, the polar opposite of the pop punk message to appreciate our youth.
Does anybody know what song he's playing at 12:07? I feel like I've heard it before but I can't figure it out and it's buggin' the hell outta me. Thanks!
I have an orange crush 35 watt sounds great but can never really find "my tone" however going to trial turning gain down and buy myself a tube screamer.
@@breakingchad1925 Ideally you’d want to get a Super Crush 100 as its more “Marshall-y” and close to a JCM 800 than the standard Crush series, but if you boost your 35 it should get you in the ball park. Just crank the level on the pedal all the way up and adjust the other two dials to taste. I like to get most of the gain from the amp but add a little bit with the pedal to sort of “sharpen things up” so to speak. If you find the SD-1 cuts too much bass, try getting your hands on an MXR Modified OD pedal. Its really similar to the SD-1 but leaves a lot more of the low end intact.
how does anyone hate my chemical romance, musically they're top notch. I could understand if you only heard the radio hits back before 2006 but thats 18 years ago
It sounds like "Boxing day" by Blink 182, but i don't think it is well known enough, I guess that he made it up and somehow it sounds like a song out of millions.
When will their more pop punk songs about other positive things and pop culture something that will bring attention and fun and plus sound track for movies tv cartoons anime video games and more also movies based on what pop culture like one of those based on stuff even glam metal and other rock genres even Emo and goth seriously

@@chriswebber2937 well there is no term of right guitar for punk, telecaster is good enough
I'm in my early 30s and pop punk is still probably my favourite genre, or one of anywayy. So cool to see people talk about it still.
Hey did pop punk sound inspired by hair metal in case

21 here and about to start makin punk music.
Dagan has such a positive and genuine vibe.
Thank you Dagan brought me back my teenage years when rock was still on the radio : )
You guys have been killing it with the content lately
Another brilliant video - thank you for the tip on using an EQ pedal for the "radio" effect, it was worth that alone
I would add to this list the Boss ST-2 Power Stack pedal. This Boss pedal mimics a Marshall stack amp and gives you a perfect 90s/00s pop punk sound!

MCR is pop punk with sadder lyrics so your right
As weird as it sounds the Mesa Boogie Rectifiers are really suited for pop punk! 😎🤘
Tom delonge used one, I think
It’s what dude ranch was recorded with.
And what did he use for the Enema of the state tone?
@@Renav21Combination of the Mesa, Marshall and a Les Paul. Jerry Finn blended the amps together in the studio.
I really do love this channel. Always appreciate these guides for tone finding.

The ultimate pop punk amp was the Mesa Boogie Rectifier

Best seller i ever seen. Nice Job.
I thought it said Pop Funk 😄 I was very interested to hear what that was. Still very nice to learn some tone knowledge.

Buy the boss katana

I’ve been playing al kinds of amp’s over the years and then you come along with the katana… I WANT IT
Cool topic! Steve Jones used a Les Paul and a FenderTwin
Yep! We have a full video of Steve Jones’ guitar tone on the PMTVUK channel - Search for ‘PMTVUK’ Steve Jones I’m a HUGE Steve Jones & Pistols fan! 🤘🤘
as someone that listens to alot of the exploited the causalities etc etc pop punk is fun to play and thats what it should be fun

Can I get that sound with a bugera g5??
But really thought hella good video. I learned a lot thank you!
What is a good humbucker to use?
What would the tone description be for like green Green day Dookie Era tone like, would it be
Great video 👍
Great video
I own the katana 100 mk2 head , i want to try some kind of pre amp pedal with valve . Could give it a punch to the sound!
What settings would you recommend me to use on a Marshall MG30DFX + Mesa Boogie Throttle Box pedal?
you should do a regluar punk like ramones/green daykind of how to get tone
were u playing great romances of the 20th century by taking back sunday?
Dude you rock
Dagan I was wondering if you could make a mettalica gear guide (I think I spelt that wrong)
Step 1 get a distortion effect.
Step 2 ???
Step 3 profit
you should try the boss mt-2, instant metallica sound
Hahaha every musician that’s says “something like that” they know they messed up haha I do the same thing 😂😂😂😂😂
why it is not closed captions available on this video? :'(
Somewhere in a bar in heaven Mark E Smith has spilled his pint
teeeeechnically Billy Joe uses a BOSS Blues Driver but yeah at that lvl of gain and volume it's splitting hairs what OD you use :)
THAT WEEZER IN THE OPENING WEEZER WEEZER!
Sounded more like Lean On Sheena by the Bouncing Souls 😊
I'd go, SG > Marshall. Get my overdrive from the amp and boost it with a £60 used boss dirt pedal for more amp distortion.
Honestly, like 95% of pop-punk bands these days use Orange amps. Buy a Rockerverb or (if you can’t afford it) an Orange crush and you’re set.
I have an orange crush 35 watt sounds great but can never really find "my tone" however going to trial turning gain down and buy myself a tube screamer.
