The most beautiful sad song ever. Written because Stevie was losing her best friend to illness...the friend Stevie had prior to becoming famous and was still extremely close to at the time of her death. How amazing that Stevie can take her pain and anguish and turn it into something beautiful.

Stevie Nicks put me under her vocal spell when I was just 9 years old. I heard her singing "Dreams" for the first time. I thought I was hearing an angel sing. I've been a loyal Stevie fan ever since. She is still today, always the first one on all of my playlists, and sprinkled all throughout them. ❤

To the Gypsies that remain, embraces freedom with a little tear, but I have no fear, I have only love. Have been in love with them since I was 17 in 1977! Stevie's songs got me through hard times and made me remember who I am so I could rise above and carry on 😊 so glad you found them and said everything you did! Peace

I know how you feel. When i first heard them as a boy during their self-titled album; I was hooked for life. This song and video was one I always went back to; especially since the album version cut the last lines of the song. It was on the single, which cut the rest of the final lines, but it never felt the same. Later, in the 90s, that final line was cut and re-edited, which was worse.
As for the song; nostalgic is the proper word for this song. Stevie wrote or about her early days before Fleetwood Mac. Back when her and Lindsey didn't have much money. She worked while he stayed home, creating music. She would buy second-hand clothes from a nearby shop. She liked to store. She would sit on the floor and listen to music or write her own songs while candles lit the room. This is what she called her gypsy times. After the success of being with Fleetwood Mac; she missed those days and wrote this song. So yes; it's a look back in time.

    • @lauraallen55
      @lauraallen55 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The lyrics reflect that when she says 'back to the floor that I love'. They didn't have enough money for a bed, just a mattress on the floor. She has said that when she was in hotels or feeling it, she would take the mattress off whatever was her bed at the time and sleep on the floor to remind her of those times.

Stevie is a poet as well as a musician. I had the privilege to see her in concert this past November. She is 75 and was still killing it-had the voice even if her register was lower. That lady definitely got me through a rough period of my life with her music, so it makes me so happy to hear how much you like Fleetwood 😊 That guitar solo by Lindsey also never fails to make me smile so wide. It just sounds so beautiful and so fun. Definitely a special group of people

It's important to remember that Stevie had just released Belladonna prior to recording this album. She really worked her ass off during this period and managed to give us a number one record, live performances for that tour, and still had enough juice left to pen this fantastic song.

Great words you used to describe this very special band. I was a teen in their heyday and the more I heard the more I was, like you, completely sold on them as a gold-tier level band. One of the genuine greats from the golden age of rock music that spanned about 20 years from 1967 to about 1987.

Hey buddy I'm a new subscriber and I just wanted to say thank you for being inclusive in what you react to and for your kindness in this space you've chosen to share.i love Fleetwood Mac and as a African American child growing up In the 70s and 80s we had such and amazing genre of music we were exposed to and i actually remember Gypsy being aired on Friday Night videos Ms Stevie Nicks ( the whyte witch) I just love her.the reason The group resonates with us is they have a history beyond the music so you hear the Joy's and pains in the lyrics, bands aren't bands anymore they put strangers together and hope for the best. My all time favorite song is Rhiannon I remember being in the car with my family dad is driving us from NYC to Georgia and the radio station changes and that was my introduction to Fleetwood Mac..

She was just magickal. Right then is when I fell in love with her, and she's consumed my life ever since lol Lindsey's guitar at the end is absolutely mindblowing. If you ever watch him play it, it hurts my brain to think a person could play such intricate stuff with so much precision and passion.

Back before CDs and streaming sometimes the “full length version” had to be cut down in order to fit on a vinyl LP, so it becomes the “album version” vs the full length. These songs didn’t do as well on the charts, but this one specifically is top tier Mac/Nicks.

Fleetwood Mac is one of those very special bands that transcends the rest of the music of the 1970s through the 1990s. In their writing and music production they tapped into the love they had for each other as well as the angst, anger and regret they had towards each other after they all ended up sleeping with each other and then having bad personal breakups. The emotion in the music is visceral.

Please react to the younger brother of the Bee Gees, Andy Gibb on Midnight Special singing
I Just Wanna Be Your Everything.
His first 3 song released went to number one. He was a solo artist and wasn't in the Bee Gees because he was born the year they were established. 12 years younger than Barry and 9 years younger than the twins. Early 1988 the BeeGees announced that Andy would be joining them as a permanent member of the Bee Gees but sadly he died March 10th of 88, which was five days after his 30th birthday.

YES! I’ve been waiting for you to do Gypsy! This video was the first time as a teenager I realized 1. How beautiful she is and 2. That she was the same woman that sang Edge of seventeen- my young mind was 🤯 this also was my grandmothers favorite Fleetwood Mac song! FYI: this was the most expensive music video ever made until Michael Jackson’s thriller

Salvo, we have exactly the same feeling about this song and this band. Stevie’s beauty is part of the story for me, including her gorgeous dancing. And she expressed herself totally here, the story being her life after meeting Lindsay but before becoming famous, a time of pure romance but material poverty. The original album version of “Landslide” is my very favorite. Thank you!

When Fleetwood Mac was looking for a new guitarist, Mick Fleetwood was also looking for a new studio to record in. At one studio the engineer played him a track they had recorded for a duo called Buckingham- Nicks for an example of what they did there. The track was called Frozen Love & Mick was blown away by Lindsey's guitar playing & by the duo's sound. It was just what Fleetwood-Mac was looking for. They were offered the job almost imediately. The Buckingham- Nicks album is fantastic & could hold up with any Fleetwood- Mac album. You should check out Frozen Love by Buckingham- Nicks to find out where the "new" sound of Fleetwood- Mac came from.

I believe they wanted Lindsey and he said they came together, so they had to take her too.

Throughout the 70s and 80s, artists writing songs longer than 3-4 minutes, would have their "album" version, and their radio single release. Some songs would be edited, had words changed from the original, and even different rhythms. The Beatles had this for their song REVOLUTION, a radio single, a slow version for the album, and an obscure version. Charlie Daniel's band had to re-record Devil went down to Georgia, to replace "I told you once you SOB, " to I told you once you son-of-a-gun. The advertisers ran the radio stations, and if songs were too long, and cutting into ad time, they had to be cut, unless it was the Beatles, or Led Zeppelin

I had that same "spell" thrown on me when I was 6 back in 1976. Stevie Nicks was my first crush, ...............and she still has me mesmerized.

This was more of a stevie solo song. Kind of like Dreams. She wrote both even though the band plays and sings background. Granted though, lindsey buckingham helped produced gypsy and did the guitar solo. But for ke, gypsy is a nicks tune.

I really enjoy your reactions and how you go into depth on the songs. I have seen all 5 of your reactions to Supertramp, and loved them. My suggestions to you for further delving into this, my favorite band, are Crime of the Century, Rudy, Asylum, Even in the Quietest Moments, and Fool's Overture.
