So far Superman rebirth has been almost perfect, the Oz reveal seemed a little rushed, but you have to think of how EPIC doomsday clock will be for Superman fans as well as the D.C. Universe. I hope it's every bit as good as dark knights metal was for batman. So hyped to see good, continuing, Superman stories. And looking forward to seeing how John turns out years down the road.
If Jor-El is still alive in the DCEU, then I think this storyline would be a great idea to bring in if the eventual Man of Steel 2 finally comes around
I think it would of been a better delivery is when Jor-el gave his identity you read the line when Superman says “You’re lying.” No exclamation point no shock. Just him denying someone that wicked could be his father.
Maybe it s tied into the Watchmen stuff, after all, blur light that saves Jor-el and latter whisks him away, and has the power to alter reality to it's will........... sounds a lot like a certain Doctor we all know.

It seems that Mr. Oz was probably a puppet of Ozymandias. The Oz logo and the Nostalgia logo are far too similar to ignore, and with Manhattan messing with Jor-El and the rest of the main Earth-0 universe, it's likely that Mr. Oz was a fabrication by somebody from the Watchmen universe, designed to confuse and remove hope from Superman.
The staff Jor El carries around was broken by his son and Superman asks him whether he controlled or was controlled by the staff. This could mean that Manhattan made the staff and sort of changed his personality to match Veidt's. Either that or Jor became as cynical as Ozy
The aftermath for this issue was also amazing. Bruce showing up to try and help Clark when he is at his lowest... I loved it. Also, that cliffhanger at the very end. Nice to see that character back as well, I always did enjoy him from the old JLA cartoon show.

Everyone's saying Dr. Manhattan is behind all of this, good theory but I have my doubts. Wouldn't he be on Earth originally, so he definitely can't be the force from outside of Earth. And would he even be around to save Jor-El when Krypton blows up? I don't think he has to power to move Jor-El through time either. Zoom is a good possibility tbh, messing with the timeline could pretty much do anything, even saving Jor-El, but this is a Superman story, so probably not. Darkseid again maybe, or the High Father, but I don't think they can control time to such an extent either. The only other person I can think of is an Olympian. Zeus has always hated mortals, Ares is Ares, but if it is a god/Titan, it's probably Kronos, because of his relation to time. Once again, that's all related to another superhero, so I'm out of ideas.

I would love to see Jor-El saved and Superman able to actually have time with his birth father and to see how John grows having his grandfather around. It would add so much world building to the Superman story and we could see how Superman could be with his Kryptonian fathers wisdom and care guiding him. I don't know, just seems like a cool concept to me.

swguygardner It kinda does make sense when you consider that Superman probably used to interact with Jor-El's hologram. Superman would probably speak to the holograms that contained Jor-El's conscious and it would probably give him some advice.
But he was referring to superman's unwillingness to give up. That's not something that was taught to him by holograms, that was instilled in him by his earth parents, the things he went through when learning to control his powers, even meeting other heroes and being inspired by their reasons to be heroes, to keep fighting, etc. The holograms in the cave only ever seem to tell him historical data, or platitudes about how holo-jor-el is proud of him, or that he'll become something amazing one day. I think it's more likely Oz was originally gonna be Jonathen Kent, New Earth Bruce Wayne, or (and this is probably the most likely) they didn't have an identity worked out when they introduced him, wanting the various writers to shape the story as it went on. I think the only thing they knew about Oz when they introduced him was that he was just a puppet for Dr Manhattan to work through (like the big head puppeted by the real guy in Wizard of Oz). ALSO! In the Revenge storyline where Oz speaks to Jon piloting the Bat-Armour, Oz claims to "Know the Armour well". How would Jor-el know batman's armour well? So extra support for New Earth Bruce Wayne, too.

I liked the way the story was done, it won me over in the end. But I think I would have enjoyed it more if Mr. Oz was a different man from Krypton, maybe a best friend of Jor-El or Zod. The kryptonite scar and whole Oz persona was definitely cool though
I think that Jor-El should've kept his views even without the staff, It'd be so cool to see a superman who hates humanity, alongside the real one who holds him dear, and provide a great contrast to Manhattan, who is just indifferent to humanity.
The Oz Effect was just in good taste, it is an excellent warning for the next story of superman, and maybe Dr. Manhattan will show all of his plans in and after DC's METAL event

Dr. Manhattan. He is doing experiments. When he left Earth, he discovered the Multiverse and the alternate timeline. After the first "Oz" who outsmarted him despite being dumber, he has universe level issues.

I know I'm a few years late but this felt...off. For one, if Jor-El was going to be revealed there needed to be more to it than this. Secondly, Oz has been directly responsible for causing problems for a long time and I very much doubt some staff was going to do it all - but the bigger issue is that Jor-El *caused* those problems and Superman knows it, yet he doesn't say anything about it and just accepts that Jor-El might have possibly actually cared after he "went weak" after losing the staff. It's just sloppy.
Don't read doomsday clock now or you will be confused, just read the metal one's so that you will understand the present timeline, the clock storyline will be finished in nov or Dec. So at that time you can read, that is what I am doing now

Random theory, the nightmare and mr oz are tests sent by dr manhattan. As a being of almost limitless power, Superman’s endeavours to save the world is admirable but also endless. As someone who has lost touch with his humanity, maybe dr manhattan went to this universe to remember what motivates the hero to continue fighting and how a alien can be so human, Maybe there’s also the meta idea, that in superhero comics, the hero always wins, except in Watchmen when it’s more grey. Maybe dr manhattan wants to understand how this is possible so he can save his universe. I just keep remembering geoff johns talking about how dr manhattan is the most alien human and superman the most human alien... As for the pair looking for their son in doomsday clock, i dunno billy batsons real parents? I’m kidding, I haven’t no idea about Shazam.

Random theory, the nightmare and mr oz are tests sent by dr manhattan. As a being of almost limitless power, Superman’s endeavours to save the world is admirable but also endless. As someone who has lost touch with his humanity, maybe dr manhattan went to this universe to remember what motivates the hero to continue fighting and how a alien can be so human, Maybe there’s also the meta idea, that in superhero comics, the hero always wins, except in Watchmen when it’s more grey. Maybe dr manhattan wants to understand how this is possible so he can save his universe. I just keep remembering geoff johns talking about how dr manhattan is the most alien human and superman the most human alien...

I feel they could have done more with this storyline it was good but we don't really get him for long and because we got him this much . during or after the event I expect Clark and Jor-El to have a moment before he is sent back to his proper time and place assuming that happens

Yeah, but they're better villains. Everyone says that Batman's greatest enemy is the Joker, not Bane. Even though Bane was the one who crippled Batman.
