I'm digging the limit switches. Here I thought there was going to be some fancy magnetic setup and your solution seems much more elegant. 3 way switches with zip ties... Gotta love that. Thanks for the series. BTW, that door is HUGE! I'm guessing it's 14' or 16' tall.
Nice one. Thanks for sharing. PS. in the beginning of the video I taught you open the garage door with that bicycle hanging from the ceiling. That lead me to a "I must see it" moment. LOL :-)
you can buy a variety of "gear motors" online. I am sure Grainger would sell them as well. I collected mine about 20 years ago...just figured would be handy someday. Thanks for watching!
I try to over build things on the strength side...the only thing to make this stronger would be to replace my big lag bolts in the posts with a bolt all the way through the posts with nuts and washers on the other side. Thanks for watching!
16' tall door...regular light switches (3-way didn't do exactly what I needed) I was trying to stay away from an over-engineered door opener with multi voltages, transformers, relays and contactors...although I could have done it that way...I always curse the designers when I run into things that are over-engineered. Simple and functional. Thanks for watching
I did not make a wiring diagram for this. A simple sketch on a scrap paper for my reference was all. That was years ago now and is long gone. There are probably several ways to wire it I just figured out a way to suit my needs. Good luck with it and thanks for watching.
is there someplace a list of what one needs to construct this door opener it looks like I coul;d install it myself. Can it be remote operated with something extra parts Thanks ikinda have the same set up
there are a few videos of the build posted. No actual list or instructions as I was just building and revising as I went along. The opener is still working just as installed now almost 4 years later with no modification, adjustment, or repairs yet. Thanks for watching!
40 years in the garage door business and I can say very good job I give it 100
Thank you very much. It still works great. Thanks for watching.
Love the opener. Some pretty ingeneous ideas. Nice job. Dan.

A very worthwhile project interesting too thanks for the videos.
luckily I save everything...cost out of pocket for this project was 67$ Thanks for watching!
most of the fun is figuring out how to accomplish what I wanted to do. basic ideas that get modified along the way. Thanks for watching!

I go in and out through a steel "man door". Opener only works from the inside. Thanks for watching!

I am very happy with the opener. Thanks for watching!
Thanks you! Thanks for watching!
Specs on motor? What switches did you use. 3 way? 4 way?
I like it, nice work. That motor was the key, where do you find a slow speed motor like that?
I'm using a winch motor.
I hope it lasts! If not then I guess I will have to fix it...Thanks for watching!
