best looking capri, could listen to Derek all day
I had a Mark1, 1.6 GL and Mark3, 2.0 sport Capri's both in white plus a Mark1 Escort with a Mexico Body, but Engine was changed to1.6 standard as original seized up, that was also white with Blue stripes, and flared wings. Wish I had them now as be worth a fortune.
My father had a 69' G reg 1300L in Ermine White, just 12 months old. We put a black vinyl roof on it with all the trims and it looked the dogs wotsits. The 1300 crossflow engine had a shorter stroke than the 1600 so it was a very sweet runner. When new it was the best looking car I had ever seen. I had not long passed my test and I enjoyed showing it off.
Still a stunning looking car getting on for 55 years old on!
In 72, my college friend from Czechoslovakia invited me to spend the summer in Europe with his family, his father a diplomat. I decided not to go. He had a black Capri in Europe he bought to the states and told about all the good looking women he met. Missed the trip, but the Capri was an awesome car!
My second car was a 1977 1.6L MK2 capri. I was only 18. That was back in 1983. I thought I was flasher than a rat with a gold tooth 😅 Lots of fun to be had during the next 3 years. Keeping the back end under control was a fine art. They were a little twitchy on the back end especially during our icy Yorkshire winters. Two bags of building sand in the boot sorted this out. Each placed next to the wheel arches. Three of us had them. Mine was the only one not to be written off.
My all time mk 1 Capri is the 1600 gt ohc in yellow with vinyl roof..😁👍
Beautiful but love the Orange Escort behind
Just looking on the inside of the Capri, looking at the gear stick was that a 5 speed these were only a 4 speed, nice looking classic
My dad had one exactly the same 1600xl 1972 K reg,,, and same colour as well !!! I was about 10,, my dream car, then my big sister had it from him ,, I was fuming,, I said it was my car and she’d reck it ,,, when I became 17,m j had it from her ,, I was the happiest boy in the world , fantastic cars to drive ,, lovely gearbox etc ,, just a superb car.😢
Mine was a 1600XL painted in Sahara beige, tan vinyl roof with matching interior, reg XBF 450M. Loved it !
Blue Mink!
I had one gold with black bonnet and boot what a car
My first car, 1600 GT XLR. HMV 431K 👍
Tried to find my dads , mk1 UKU71K he was Capri mad back in the day 3Ls then a 2.8i
They never showed the number plate and I’m sure normally you get a good look round the car inc plate…
It definitely looks like a 1600 L
to me with…over the years a few add ons
Still a lovely moter 👍👍👍
I could not hear this but will guess that Derek has owned one in his time 😂
Good condition for it's age 😊
Think there is a twinkle in someone’s eye for that car😊 go you know it makes sense👍
i had a mk2 capri 1600 gl and blew the engine ,i bought a mk1 1600 gxl for the engine ,put it in the mk2 then scrapped the mk1 ,would dash etc
Engine misfiring on 3 cylinders 😮
Is that what they called - The Dagenham Dustbin?
No. That was the cortina that got that name
Basic dash layout, no rev counter and other aux instruments makes me think this is actually an L or XL spec Mk1 Capri
Yes, It looks like an XL with individual backrests on the back seats.
I agree no Rev counter,oil,battery,etc 🤔🤔🤔
Yes, I have a 1600 XL Facelift MK1. Laughed when he said 'theres a badge missing, GT or GTXLR' . embarrassing. The XL badge will be on the bootlid.
@@unionjack2819 No. he's right the badges on the pre facelift model were towards the bottom of the front wings. One for engine size and the other for trim level. On the facelift models there should be one for the engine size on the front wing and trim level on the bootlid.
The driver's door mirror and passenger side mirror is not original to the Capri
My Dad bought a used Mk1 1300 engined Capri on a "K" plate back in the late 70's, it was metallic gold with a brown vinyl roof. He came late to driving and it was his first "proper" car, his first car was - dare I say it - a plastic pig.
I can remember in my early insurance career, 1993, we had a case we’d never seen before. A man with a motorcycle license, who had a Robin Reliant. I think the Robins were very popular due to motorcycle licenses, in the 60s and 70s
That engine is rough.
Lumpy old engine
British Ford hadn't got a clue how to design & style a car classically British.
Everything they did was a miniature version of American Rust Buckets churned out in their millions from the Detroit tin bashers.
That’s a matter of personal opinion. And actually it was ford Europe and not British. Also fords of this period have become very desirable and now sell for quite handsome sums. They have a massive following with many clubs dedicated to various models and shows that are both ford and model specific. So I’d say your opinion is of the minority. 👍
@@stupot50english82 I don't know how old you are but I guess you're not as old as me.
I remember British Fords as brand new cars on the road from the early 1950s.
