+Super Dandy My personal was "Fetus". Creepy name, but awesome track, it was the song that played during the Prologue of each character. That shit was *dark,* bro! It felt like Tekken had suddenly become this underground fight club were you were getting involved with all sorts of mafias and crime bosses and really, really dark stuff. It felt like, at any moment, your character could've been shot at the back by some henchman while heading towards his or her next fight. Actually, that's basically what happened to Jin in this game! (although his case recquired A LOT of dudes since Jin is such a badass) At any rate, the story felt grim. Even Xiaoyu receiving that e-mail message about not trusting the Zaibatsu, that Heihachi was not what he seemed and all... and she starts distrusting everything around her and trying unveil the truth... man! Those storylines were *awesome!* Why did they have to get rid of them in Tekken 5? :(
Tekken 4 had some sick designs. Hobo Paul and hoodie Jin are the best those characters have ever looked. Unfortunately the gameplay was kind of ass and the designs that were bad were really fucking bad. Like bug Yoshimitsu, army Hwoarang, everything about King and Nina's horrible pink fetishwear.
It had a great modern design that fit well with the changing times and new millennium, characters went through heavy modern redesigns that contrasted with their stories. And the music helped a lot too, lot of electronic tracks there that changed with the course of the fight. Shame they went back to the more fantasy based Tekken after this, I loved this look so much more. Fortunately Tekken 7 is trying new things out again so hopefully that works out.
I miss when Namco used to treat Paul seriously. As you could see in his T4 ending, he fought hard through the championship, but his wealth and executive position eventually made him a shade of his former self. Only after seeing a picture of him on his glory days on Marshall's Dojo that Paul realizes that being a rich playboy wasn't him. And the scene of him throwing his shades away was a proof that old Paul was back... And in the next game, he's turned into an arrogant asshole who just wants to be number one, and gets humiliatedly defeated by Kuma, out of all things. And his ending? Him threatening aliens... *sighs*
It's sad. Paul keeps getting beat up by bears. The last 4 games (I'm assuming 7 will be no different canonically) are just him getting whupped by bears. Give it a rest Namco. Paul needs his moment.
FR, it feels like the not major characters are either reduced to comic relief (Eddy, Law, Paul, Yoshimitsu, pretty much all the anthropomorphic animals) or reduced to their one trait that makes them different (Marduk, King, Steve, Bryan, etc.)
Agreed. Devs tend to go cheesy on secondary characters as a reason to do not mess up with the lore of the game for upcoming entries in the series... Way too commom in fighting game franchises. (Some of them do not even have any good protagonist arc, tho)
not to mention that canonically, he was a badass who could go toe-to-toe with Kazuya. but since he's not a Mishima or has any relation to them, they had to find a way to keep him from interfering with the story, and so enter Kuma... i guess i should be glad that Namco hasn't yet nerfed Paul to kingdom come to complete his Danification. @UCHaGty-zUeuD5fD_Z6__wPQ and Law too, thanks for reminding.
To me Tekken 4 felt like a true Street fighting game. I literally felt like I was having street fights in real life arenas. I personally loved this game
Shit on Tekken 4 all you want, but this game had a wonderful tone to it. It feels more mature than any of the other installments, and the music is some of the best in the series.
T4 was the last Tekken game that actually had me interested in the main plot, I still think it has one of the hypest intros ever, it's just a small detail but I love how Kazuya was all tired and fucked up holding a pistol just from fighting Tekken Force dudes at the end of the intro, this was before jobbers really really REALLY just became jobbers (Looking at you Tekken7) and they started adding all this wacky shit like deflecting missiles with kicks and etc (still looking at you tekken7)
Paul is neutral at best in the humor department. Both his endings in 1 and 2 weren't exactly humorous. Being boring is one thing, but being jobbed in the story is another. How does a guy who used to rival Kazuya and the guy who initially beat Ogre gets alot of heat for beating Panda? Fuck Harada and his story writers.
Jay Mike Paul fans cares. Explain how is he being generic when being a dumbass itself is generic as hell .Enough serious character? You can't be serious, outside the Mishimas, 70% of the characters don't take it too seriously. And even if they do, they end up comical despite the developer's intentions to make them serious.
Jay Mike you didn't explain how is a dumbass Paul any better aside from being "funny" which he is not. And no, speak for yourself. Youre like the minority who actually like the later version.
Wrong about the prologue thing, Paul legitimately defeated Ogre (first form) in Tekken 3, it's 100% canon, he also defeated Kuma in 3 and later lost to him in 4, only to defeat him again in 5 and quit the tournament after, that technically makes Paul not only undefeated in 3 different Tekkens (2 : disqualified in the finals due to not arriving because of bad traffic, 3 : being undefeated throughout the entire thing and defeating the final challenger, 5 : getting to the quarter finals and quitting after his last victory) but also the only non Mishima character to win a Tekken tournament.
Except he never won. Jin won T3. If you beat last years evo champion in the winners finals in just one match of the set and then leave the event, you don't win Evo, you get DQ'd.
SJ.Fox Sure, Jin won T3, but he did compete in the tournament, which means he probably lost before winning, most likely to Paul, because he was chosen to fight True Ogre, think about it, if Paul got to Ogre it means he undoubtedly defeated Heihachi, and in order to face Heihachi you need to be out of opponents.
Paul's story in Tekken 4 says it for starters. Every game has a canonical ending as to who "won", and it's canon that Paul beat Ogre (but not True Ogre) in the third tournament.
Yea it's true. Paul was the one to beat Ogre. Jin was the one to beat the snake arm Ogre though. Kazuya won the first game. Heihachi won the second one. Paul the third. Kazuya the fourth. Jin the 5th. Don't know about the 6th. I wanna say Lars
I very much doubt it matters that I write this, but the reason for Hwoarang's change is because he joined the military during this time, and I think even went and deserted so he could fight Jin in the tournament.
Tekken 4 is pure fun and has the best stages in the Tekken franchise ever! We need a Tekken 4 HD Remaster for the PS4 and Steam! I would purchase it over again in a heartbeat!
Tekken 4 was so dark and so serious. I actually likes the gritty animations in the beginning for each character; it really sets the stage/mood for their story.
i loved Tekken 4. It was the most cinematic of all the previous games, with the intro movies with voice over, destructible environments, and uneven levels! And some characters had great new looks and move sets, plus the addition of Marduk and Steve Fox!
Tekken 4 had the most atmosphere change, the most serious tone with little laughs. Even the music was crazy. The character design was even crazy. This is basically the 808's and Heartbreak of Tekken games
Tekken 4 always has my vote for "The Most Badass Tekken". The intro screen, the character select, the stage environment mechanics, the arcade presence, and the return of Kazuya had me sold.
LeninCake people were coming off of 3 and Tag. The roster was more confined. While it's still a great game and personally one of my favorites. The small roster turned a lot of people off.
I did a tally, T3 has 22 characters and T4 has 23, both have 4 clones, 5 if you count mokujin n combot. Tag had 39 characters, with 10 clones. So inb4 T7 gets complaints of a "Small roster"
The T4 clones are christie, panda, miharu and violet all are respective clones of eddy, kuma, xiaoyu and lee. T3 clones are anna = nina, tiger = Eddy, panda = kuma and ogre and true ogre.
Honestly the uneven stages were such a cool idea. As far as I know this is the most unpolished Tekken gameplay wise but, was the last one with a more serious realistic tone and really cool character story arcs. If the gameplay was more balanced and less glitchy this would easily be my favorite Tekken. Love Tekken 5 but, half the cast becoming joke characters is such a sad thing to see. Tekken 6 turned the series into a fantasy anime and is sadly staying that way which is a shame. T7 is going to amazing but, ill miss the grittiness of T5 downwards.
Agreed. They turned Paul into a joke character and "killed off" Heihachi only to bring him back in the same game via some deux ex machina DBZ shit. Also, Xioayu trying to use a time machine to save Kazyua when he was a kid.... At least T5 introduced some cool new characters
I am so sad with what they did with Paul. Once Kazuya's equal now apart of the three stooges with Marshal and Forest. I would be happy if they did both. And yeah heihachi should not have really appeared in T5, everything about him in that game was a joke. Damn shame because he's such a cool villain. In my opinion T5: DR was the last Tekken to introduce cool characters. T6 on wards introduced some of my most hated characters. Lars, Alisa, and Leo, to name a few. In T7 although cute, that vocaloid cat girl does not belong in Tekken. I would rather have a Robot Roger Jr. at least that'd fit. The only "new" character I like is Kazuya's mom who's name escapes me.
He didn't enlist, he was drafted. Military service is mandatory for South Koreans. I like to imagine he kicked the crap out of some North Korean commies
Perhaps, because of Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag Tournament 1, we expected too much about this game, otherwise it's pretty good and added new ideas (stages for instance). HeiHachi "Real men wear sumo gears" was Badass as hell.
So Max was one of those people that hated this game, eh? Well, as someone who started Tekken with 3, I for one loved, and still love this game! Story, soundtrack, unique stages, character costumes, all was just top notch in this game, and no other Tekken afterwards came close to achieving again. Looking forward to T7!! A few more days!
I didn't know that this Tekken was looked down upon until recently. It's always been one of my favorites in the series and and thought that the stages soundtrack, and character designs was top-notch.
SFV is in no means competitive. It's a game for casuals that just so happens to be in Esporst because of it's name and previous entries. Now 3rd Strike, that's a real competitive game. Even tho Chun was super broken in it.
Man the MUSIC, narrator, art style, direction & aesthetics of the stages was lit af. It really brought out the hype. Need to bring it back with updated graphics. My favorite stage is the underground fight club scene. The rock esk music with crowd cheers when you got a hard hit or knockdown and sound echos was PERFECT
this is my shit back in my high school days. people would line up in malls to fight me and my jin kazama. the position switch/ grab switch in this game is a game changer.
Bro Tekken 4 was my first Tekken besides Tag tournament and holy shit, the dark tone and more serious narrating is incredible, I love it. The only thing that I love more is Tag’s character select music
Wow TEKKEN 4~ I actually loved this game and it was the first Tekken I ever tried and even "100%" all the character endings and the Strike Force(?) mode. I loved the fight music most of all♡
I remember playing this in a arcade once and being blown away from the graphics along with the characters changed design. I loved the character select music "Jet" along with hearing the words, "Welcome to the king of iron fist tournament 4". Man I loved this game, but I wouldn't know until recently how disliked this game was. I loved the character designs in this game, Jin's, Xiaoyu's, Kuma's, Julia's and Howarang's.
Tekken 4. My personal favourite Tekken. -Great presentation/ athmosphere. - Darker grounded story. - Chill soundtrack And my boy Heihachi, badass villai n💪
I really don’t know why some people give Tekken 4 a bad rep. In my opinion, this is probably the best Tekken game of the series. It has the most serious/darkest story out of all of the games. Also, I know that the character roster is short, but I have no problem with that; I think it’s fine. Even the character endings are one of the best in the series. The fighting locations in this game are also the best Tekken locations of the series, with some beautiful, exotic, and eerie stages. The gameplay is amazing and smooth once you get used to playing it. Not to mention this game probably has the best, most atmospherical and memorable music out of the franchise, but hey, this is me talking here lol. So yeah that’s all I have to say lol.
Mike's L4IR It’s your opinion dude, and I’m just sharing my opinion. If you think that that Tekken 5 is the best, then I respect that. I just don’t want to start any trouble lol.
I played this one much later compared to other Tekkens. I actually kinda like the fact that they tried a bunch of new stuff and went with a more serious tone. New designs for everyone, interactive music, weird ass stages, new system for throws. My favorites will remain as 3 and 5 though.
Paul actually did win... like he legit won annnnnnnd walked away just like the intro says. it's legit lol. I miss Tekken 4... it's the last Tekken where I absolutely LOVED the OST. I fucking love the music in this game. sooooo much.
I think this Tekken has more realism than the others. I’ve noticed that this one does not have a tone of fantasy tone to it and sticks to more mature tones. I actually enjoyed this change. Also the limited character pool added to the tone as well. It felt more “close knit”.
This game will always be my favorite Tekken, and my favorite video game of all time. Some of my earliest memories are of playing this game all the way back in 2001. Even though I was barely even a year old. The music, the gameplay, the hoodie and other awesome outfits for characters. Hwoarang's military outfit, Marduk's vest and long hair, Paul's T shirt and jeans with his hair down, Yoshimistsu's cockroach outfit (his best outfit in my opinion), Xioayu's track suit, King's long hair and pants, all of these need to make a comeback, even if in a DLC for 7. This game made me a Jin main at heart. Even now I own multiple copies due to discs not working for many reasons. I cherish this game, it brings back some really good memories of unlocking more characters, playing Tekken Force, and I know it's awkward but those colored squares on the character usage screen? To this day those colors stick with me and man I love that palette. The water as well, that classic early 2000s arcade water, being able to fight in the water is so underrated. Each character having a unique color on their portrait was awesome as well. The stages in this game felt real and their music absolutely dialed in the atmosphere of each area. My favorite has always been the Jungle and The city. Every Tekken game after this was Tekken 5 version 2, 3, 4, etc. In my opinion this game had a great feel in terms of it's dark tone (what I like to call the Nu-metal tone having grown up with that music) and semi-realistic gameplay (as far as fighting games go anyway) and if they even at least did a spinoff series with this style I'd be very happy. Characters had real storylines, each person had a reason for entering this tournament and got something out of it in their respective endings and stories. In other words, I want this to be backwards compatible Sony/Namco. Make it happen please. I love this game.
Tekken 4 is my personal favorite because it was the most different and I felt it was moving in a better direction with the backgrounds being interactive. I wish they would bring that back
Tekken 4 one most underrated games in Tekken Series period from Stages to Music to Characters .You couldn't call it ambitious. But you could still call it one of the better fighting games in years
Gameplay wise, it's probably the worst the worst Tekken besides 1, even though it's still pretty fun and honestly good if you ignore the competitive aspect and focus on fun alone. Story-wise though, this is the best Tekken by far. Every character felt important, even if most of them had side stories unrelated to the main Mishima conflict(which was also fantastic, with Kazuya's return and Jin's rebellious change of fighting style).
Mithra the uneven stages and being able to perform the switch maneuver changed the feel of the game. The balance was wonky too but that didn't affect most people (Jin is broken in competitive play thanks to just frame laser scraper and his overall very good jabs).
Also you could move around the stage before the fight began. This combined with the uneven terrain in stages allowed for considerable shifts in balance
My favorite game in the series. Music, stages, character design and move set were all amazing. Also it was not about bouncing juggles like some of the newer releases lol.
Don't worry. A double knock out happened to me too a couple of years ago while I was playing Tekken 4. I was playing as Lee Chaolan, and the second round of the final stage where you have to fight Combot, I went for a kick, and so did Combot, and we both got knocked out. Then I beat him after, while laughing at my previous mistake.
Hwoarang’s outfit is actually his Korean military outfit. He left his post to fight in the tournament and they’re hunting him down for leaving his post.
Black Sheep? You mean Tekken 6? While Tekken 4 is a flawed game, it never whored itself to weaboos. Nowadays, Tekken have over-the-top story and character stereotypes that can easily be found on many animes. Starting Tekken 5, anime tropes have become a thing (e.g. overpowered characters plot-wise aside from the Mishimas, accidental pervert (see Asuka's ending), and just weaboo fan service with Lili and Asuka. Namco really did Asuka wrong by throwing her out of the plot relevance when she have shown much potential.
Elaborate what stereotype you are talking about. I see him as a standard noble ninja character, rather than anime/manga cookie-cutter character. Namco based his character from a Kabuki performer, an ancient japanese entertainer. You should look that up. Most of the characters from the original were based on real life personalities. The only anime based character was Paul Phoenix which is not even a cliche archetype. Kazuya being a Vegeta clone were never confirmed by Namco. Let me correct my statement: Since Tekken 5, anime tropes have overtaken the series.
chocolatesasquatch You didnt answer my questions and tried to divert it with the old ass "bears and kangaroos are joke characters" argument. If they are much of a joke , maybe you should fight a bear (or a kangaroo for that matter) in the wild to see if they are a joke. Like circus animals, they are trained, except they fight instead of performing a show. I dont see anything joke about that. Kuma's ending in Tekken 2 wasnt much of a joke nor was Roger's. Compare it to a spoiled princess with no proper martial arts training but was somehow a rival to Asuka, who were pretty much trained since childhood due to family lineage. As for catering for wider audience, that's called selling out. Just like WWE became kid-friendly to expand audience which turned off some hardcore fans, especially from attitude and ruthless agression era. There is a saying you cant please anyone and people who try hard to reach all types of people lost many of them instead. A bird in the hand is better than two bird flying.
+chocolatesasquatch You never said bears are joke. But the way you said it sounds sarcastic. Lets be honest, nobody was expecting Kuma when the original Tekken came out. As for Lili, yes. I hate her for valid reasons. One, she pushed Asuka out of a potential plot relevance. Two, yes her fighting style. She was kidnapped when she discovered that she can fight. I dont think you can apply it into fighting style that quickly especially during a much younger age. Thats an insult to intelligence for ilder gamers. And three, her overall design is very generic. Blonde princess cookie cutter type that you can see in many anime shows. I would have enjoyed old characters if Harada didnt turned them into joke characters. Heihachi and Paul suffered the worst. And Kazuya's character after 4 became much more one dimensional. So was Jin's. And god, way to ruin Tekken 4s awesome character designs and artwork. Since 5, most male characters looks like they took some steroids and the artworks were more cleaner in a bad way. Soundtrack sounds ass too after 5. Too much dubstep and orchestral tracks.
Have you actually scene actual Capoeira fighting? They are just as lethal as any martial arts. To dismiss any type of real martial arts is ignorant and insulting to practitioners. Some are even whooping ass on the MMA scene. Now, if you asked me if ballet or gynastics are applicable for fighting scenes, then yes at some extent but at no way you can beat professionals some pro without even developing movesets from it or mixing it up with other forms of martial art discipline.
I wish Tekken 7 was Tekken 4 but with the new mechanics and gameplay. This is what Tekken should look like. This feels like I'm fighting. The characters designs had more personality to them too.
tekken 4 has one of my all time favorite soundtracks from the tekken franchise,as well as some of my favorite character costumes(Jin's badass flame jacket,Paul's homeless look, eddy Gordo as Christies second costume) and it also has some of the best atmosphere as well, feels dark, serious, and melancholic(even the voice for the character introductions sounds dark) I love this game for what it is,great underrated ps2 fighter
I remember liking T4's overall presentation and graphics over T6 when T6: Bloodline Rebellion came out. T6 just had a lot of jaggies it hurt my eyes. Also, the Beach and Shinjuku levels in T4 are some of the best Tekken stages I have ever seen in my opinion.
most endings aren´t canon but intros/prologue are all canon...so Paul DID beat Ogre, left because he thought it was over, ogre transformed into true ogre and jin beat him, after that heihachi attacked jin, jin transformed into devil jin, smashed heihachi through the wall and flew away
One of my favorite things about Tekken 4 was the music. It was very atmospheric, especially the one that plays on top of the building.

To me Tekken 4 felt like a true Street fighting game. I literally felt like I was having street fights in real life arenas. I personally loved this game
I know and this was the first tekken game I've played
Shit on Tekken 4 all you want, but this game had a wonderful tone to it. It feels more mature than any of the other installments, and the music is some of the best in the series.
Get Serious! Agreed!
Get Serious! And it’s the definitive Tekken storyline, it shows all the classic motives of every character it has.
Same, it may not be the best mechanic wise but the presentation and stages were awesome. My first game of the series that got me addicted
TEKKEN 4 is the most "realistic" and "mature" Tekken.
I love the stages... the clothings.. storyline.. without any weird supernatural beings...
... Except Kuma. And cyborgs being a thing. And Ogre. And Devil Jin. And Kazuya also having a Devil inside. And so on.
You guys know that Hwoarang was in the military in this one, right? That outfit wasn't him getting adventurous at a sporting goods outlet.
I'm shocked at how ignorant these guys are
Yeah I kind of rolled my eyes at that part. His story was literally him defecting from his mandated military service that all Korean men have to do
Authentic Sky.
That is all.
Rukunetsu Strongest Iron Arena and Touch and Go represent!
Rukunetsu yo
"Rukunetsu" that is all! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Love your music man!

touch and go, lights, and last but certainly not least FEAR
I see a lot of shit for T4 but the art direction for T4 is just amazing. Game looks really good for it's time, and even now to an extent.

XtremefighterX GamingAndMore "in the franchise"
Absolutely
It's not underrated, it's flat out hated
While this may not have been as loved as any other popular Tekken game, you gotta give Namco credit for taking the story to its darkest roots.
E24K Lawson I agree, last Tekken game in wich Paul is not an idiot.
Paul is neutral at best in the humor department. Both his endings in 1 and 2 weren't exactly humorous. Being boring is one thing, but being jobbed in the story is another. Lord Raptor Heihachi actually won T3, after betraying Jin.
Tekken 4 had the best story and presentation of the characters stories..Everything feels grounded and not to out there
I agree. This and T3 had the better storylines and aesthetics. It seems like now the games are anime extreme.
Except for the ninja bug man. And the bear.
The gameplay was very different but it felt smooth though
Boring gameplay? A fighting game that is one touch combo death oriented is not boring
I said different, not boring...
Tekken 4 has the best story

It's Canon that Paul won Tekken 3 and did beat Ogre's first form.
Shihab Malek How is that canon. what do you base that on?
Paul's story in Tekken 4 says it for starters. Every game has a canonical ending as to who "won", and it's canon that Paul beat Ogre (but not True Ogre) in the third tournament.
Gwrightproductions1 Every prologue in Tekken 4 is canon…
Yea it's true. Paul was the one to beat Ogre. Jin was the one to beat the snake arm Ogre though. Kazuya won the first game. Heihachi won the second one. Paul the third. Kazuya the fourth. Jin the 5th. Don't know about the 6th. I wanna say Lars
Actually, Jin won Tekken 3. He killed True Ogre.
I very much doubt it matters that I write this, but the reason for Hwoarang's change is because he joined the military during this time, and I think even went and deserted so he could fight Jin in the tournament.
Sum Gai Young males in Korea are required to spend at least 2 years in the military.
Yes, that is why
Sum Gai Someone understands finally
I love military hwoarang because that gave him the most best tekken oufit ever
Tekken 4 is pure fun and has the best stages in the Tekken franchise ever! We need a Tekken 4 HD Remaster for the PS4 and Steam! I would purchase it over again in a heartbeat!
Tekken 4 was so dark and so serious. I actually likes the gritty animations in the beginning for each character; it really sets the stage/mood for their story.
My very first Tekken game and one of the reasons why I love fighting games...
Same here man! Tekken 4 is a good part of my childhood.
Me too.
i loved Tekken 4. It was the most cinematic of all the previous games, with the intro movies with voice over, destructible environments, and uneven levels! And some characters had great new looks and move sets, plus the addition of Marduk and Steve Fox!
Man i loved tekken 4...
Saaammme I like it more than tekken 3:
1. Tekken 4
2. Tekken 3
3. Tekken 5
4. Tekken 6 and 7 is a tie
And I never played tekken 1 and 2
Tekken 4 had the most atmosphere change, the most serious tone with little laughs. Even the music was crazy. The character design was even crazy. This is basically the 808's and Heartbreak of Tekken games
I love the dark Tekken 4 background
Kazuya's T4 ending is Godlike
T4 is underrated but yet so iconic. The music, the atmosphere, and its presentation in general were the things that made this game great!
The most underrated fighting game ever, I know some of y'all hated this but I love the graphics, mechanics and etc
Tre Moore Tekken 4 & Tekken 5 are the best for me
Tre Moore it is hated cuz of the broken maps, otherwise it's a good even if it is so slow and all :)
Kjarrigan1 this game was fast and intense as shit. maps werent broken, they were realistic.
Yes of course ... lol ... realistic stages would be cool, if the fighters would move properly in those enviroments ... but they dont
@@Kjarrigan1 well thats more realistic just what would happen in a real street fight
Tekken 4 always has my vote for "The Most Badass Tekken".
The intro screen, the character select, the stage environment mechanics, the arcade presence, and the return of Kazuya had me sold.
love the fact that T4 had different final boss fight for certain characters. A very underrated entry in the series.
I dunno why people gave this such a hard time on the internet. People enjoyed it at the arcade i grew up in. Maybe i'll see now.
LeninCake people were coming off of 3 and Tag. The roster was more confined. While it's still a great game and personally one of my favorites. The small roster turned a lot of people off.
If you do a count up t3 n t4 have roughly the same number roster, tag made 4 seem small due to alot of old characters returning just for tag
I did a tally, T3 has 22 characters and T4 has 23, both have 4 clones, 5 if you count mokujin n combot.
Tag had 39 characters, with 10 clones. So inb4 T7 gets complaints of a "Small roster"
Akatsuki sixsixsix I'm only counting 2 clones? Kuma & Panda (in T4)
At least TTT2 brought back Alex. I always hated that you just had Roger Jr. In T5.
That's the lizard/raptor animal character right? Forgot about that thing.
Yea they got the uneven stage thing from Virtua Fighter 3.
the reason hwoarang looked weird was because he was drafted in the Korean army at that time...and escaped lol
edit: he was drafted, not enlisted
He didn't enlist, he was drafted. Military service is mandatory for South Koreans. I like to imagine he kicked the crap out of some North Korean commies
Son of Tiamat thanks for the correction!
Perhaps, because of Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag Tournament 1, we expected too much about this game, otherwise it's pretty good and added new ideas (stages for instance).
HeiHachi "Real men wear sumo gears" was Badass as hell.
Tekken 4 looked so modern back in 2001, 2002
I like Paul with his hair down. I wish he was presented like that more often.
Their lack of tekken knowledge makes my soul weep.
Javier Brown It makes me cringe
Javier Brown 😂😂😂
The part about Combot having a unique move set hurt to listen to.
It’s actually insane, like if they knew the first thing about Tekken they would understand this is the best one. Period.
the unpunnished ally kicks, tsunami kicks, flips, and not even an attempt to convert on counter hit getup kicks realy iritated me lol
The most broken and busted main stay tekken of all time and the most glitchy. It also had a smaller cast than T3.
SJ.Fox I'd take innovation and creativity over "competitiveness" any day!
*cough* SFV *cough
SFV is in no means competitive. It's a game for casuals that just so happens to be in Esporst because of it's name and previous entries. Now 3rd Strike, that's a real competitive game. Even tho Chun was super broken in it.
Yeah I'll take polish and content over glorified glitch fests any day.
I remember the first time seeing Tekken 4 in the arcade and thinking "This is some next-gen shit", I was 11 at the time.
Same 🤣
I swear, the graphics were life-like to my eyes.
Just for clarity
Hwoarang's 2p costume in this game is in reference to the Military service he ditched to participate in the tournament for.
The only Tekken with no Jack. Also, Kazuya's ending was scary as Hell. Love the dark atmosphere of Tekken 4 and the brave changes in gameplay.
this is my shit back in my high school days. people would line up in malls to fight me and my jin kazama. the position switch/ grab switch in this game is a game changer.
The last Tekken game where you could actually take Paul seriously.
Tekken 4 Paul story was the best after that they treat him like they treat Balrog in Street fighter stories!!!
Bro Tekken 4 was my first Tekken besides Tag tournament and holy shit, the dark tone and more serious narrating is incredible, I love it. The only thing that I love more is Tag’s character select music
This is and always will be, my favorite tekken of all time just for the aesthetic, music, and feel of the game.
Cant forget the announcer either
Steve introduced.
Best game by default.
Spoken like somebody who has never played it.
Tekken 4 was underrated as it's story was phenomenal. Especially when Jin and Kazuya fight and the badass Hon-Maru track played.
Wow TEKKEN 4~ I actually loved this game and it was the first Tekken I ever tried and even "100%" all the character endings and the Strike Force(?) mode. I loved the fight music most of all♡
*tekken force
That's it~
Something I really liked about the older fighting games is that you didn't have these ridiculously long combos.
lol the complaints about stage advantage. wouldnt survive very long playing dead or alive. t4 has my favorite stages of all of the games
espie preach
The stage transitions in DOA are amazing, shame the series has such a bad reputation.
Tekken 4 was one of the most ambition Tekken's IMO.
Looks like Max made it to Tekken 4.
tekken 3 and 4 were easily my favs growing up the music the style the story. Incredible
Tekken 4. My personal favourite Tekken.
-Great presentation/ athmosphere.
- Darker grounded story.
- Chill soundtrack
And my boy Heihachi, badass villai n💪
You damned right Paul won the Tekken 3 tournament.
God... I swear Paul in that one Red Suit looks like somebody I know. I just can't remember who it is....
I think... his name starts with an M....
Mickey Mouse?
Phil Kazzy Ivan Drago
Phil Kazzy Michelle Obama
Maximilian dood?
Shut up Kenny! Lol
This is lowkey my favorite tekken. The storytelling in this was dope
I played this one much later compared to other Tekkens. I actually kinda like the fact that they tried a bunch of new stuff and went with a more serious tone. New designs for everyone, interactive music, weird ass stages, new system for throws. My favorites will remain as 3 and 5 though.
Paul really did win Tekken 3 Max, its canon. Also Tekken got the whole uneven stage thing in this game from VF3.
This tekken has a special place in my heart.
Tekken 4 had the best textured design and stages.
I loved this game. The character design, the stages, the music and the stories.
Paul actually did win... like he legit won annnnnnnd walked away just like the intro says. it's legit lol. I miss Tekken 4... it's the last Tekken where I absolutely LOVED the OST. I fucking love the music in this game. sooooo much.
This is one of the Tekken games that went under my radar and looking back, I missed out man :(
Pretty sure the reason why everybody hates tekken 4 because of Heihachi in a diaper
SuperFusionAJ93 lol
Putting the final boss in a diaper is never a good idea.
Tekken 4 is my all time favorite Tekken and I’ve played all of them from day one.
Tekken 3 has Gon.
Tekken 7 has Akuma and Goose Howard.
And Tekken 4 has Maximilian Dood.
I absolutely love it when someone lands a Burning Fist and still loses the round.
In the story, Hworang escapes Korean military duty (mandatory to serve in Korea) to fight Jin that is why he's in military gear.
But you could still call it one of the better fighting games in years
Tekken 4 is underrated imo. such a fun game to play back then.
People can say what they want about Tekken 4s gameplay, but I think its the step to the right direction for the series.
And that marked the end of Paul being a serious badass character. Now Paul and Law are just just used for comic relief.
What I liked about Tekken 4 was that they tried to do something with their looks. Now, they just went back to how everybody looked in Tekken 3.
This game and Tekken 3 has special place in my heart
Gameplay wise, it's probably the worst the worst Tekken besides 1, even though it's still pretty fun and honestly good if you ignore the competitive aspect and focus on fun alone.
Story-wise though, this is the best Tekken by far. Every character felt important, even if most of them had side stories unrelated to the main Mishima conflict(which was also fantastic, with Kazuya's return and Jin's rebellious change of fighting style).
What is it about Tekken 4's gameplay that made it so bad?
Mithra Apparently it's just how the environments worked. If you were on certain terrain, some combos would stop working and things like that
Mithra Honestly though, that's kinda bs. I'm sure there's at least one stage you can use without a problem, meaning competitive play would be fine
Paul's hair physics though
This game was fantastic. Dynamic music, Huge stages, Kazuya's return, Tekken force. its too good
Wow Tekken 4 graphics way ahead of its time. Amazing from Bandai!
I honestly don't care what anyone tells me, Tekken 4 is and always will be my favorite game in the franchise.
Check out Lateef Crowder. That guy is famous for doing capoeira fighting in movie flicks, including his role as Eddie Gordo in the live action Tekken.
beat this game with every character, it had the best story. I love this game
For me this is the best Tekken, and probably the best fighting game ever.
People treat Tekken 4 as if it's the St Anger by Metallica of the series.
T4 is really underrated entry in series. I don't think it deserves hate that it gets.
The way Paul's hair moves !!! not even on tekken 7 you see such a smooth animation
Facts, wizardry.
Paul's Tekken 3 win is canon though
