this guy deserves to belong with the greats, guys like Stanley Kubrick, Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorsese, Alfred Hitchcock, those guys.
+FloydPink23 Dude, Zemeckis made so many classics, he's an innovative filmmaker and storyteller. Sure not every film of his has been perfect, but not every film by Hitchcock and Kubrick was either.
MrDrawingboard1 In the last 35 years only FIVE directors have won the Academy Award TWICE for Directing(Alejandro Inarritu, Ang Lee, Oliver Stone, Clint Eastwood, and Steven Speilberg) and you only mentioned ONE of them in your statement. And every one else who commented on your statement also failed to mention any of them. I guess you guys just go by whats names are thrown around online and do not really study film. Zemeckis films include Contact, Cast Away, and Flight which are glorious films and much better then most of Scorsese, Quentin, and Kubrick films.
Zemeckis made the Back to the Future Trilogy, Roger Rabbit, Romancing the Stone, Forrest Gump, Contact, Flight and the Polar Express. This dude is a legend!
One f the best movies I’ve seen. Never get tired of seeing it again and again. Thats what makes a great movie. You could see it over and over again and still want to see scenes from it again.
He went way too far with editing that film, it's a still fantastic cultclassic but it was much longer originally. I feel he doesn't like it that much... depends what day it is maybe lol.
The limitations of the mechanical shark on Jaws probably contributed to its overall success. Suggesting the presence of the shark led to a more suspenseful and thrilling film.
I am grateful to all those involved in the making of the movie Flight for the love & cour- age it took to show all of us the d e c e i t f u l , relentless, a r r o g a n t, filthy, nonfamilial, p r e d a t o r i a l, GODLESS, yet hopeful sides of a d d i c t i o n. No Matter how far we fall, there is always HOPE.J11/2012
Do you love his movies? Watch the short he mentored, starring Christopher Lloyd and John Lithgow. It's called The Macabre World of Lavender Williams. Browse the name and watch. If you enjoy it, share it!
Prep, Script, Edit.Purpose is to Entertain with spectacle. Have an idea, then compromise. Then the magic happens until the critique comes. Then it's the rewrite. Character research for character-driven films. 2 Master minds Brainstorming. Would love to be the fly on the wall. The screenplay outstanding.
I have wanted to hear what happened with "Intervention" which previous to Flight was to be is alcoholism film but he wanted "the two Toms" Cruise and Hanks together. Maybe Cruise objected to 12 step stuff because of Scientology.
I just watched FLIGHT and the crash scene was amazing but found the film as a whole really a strange film. The plot was going two places, anybody else think Flight was kind of a strange film?
I watched about 2:11 minutes of this but Zemeckis just seems so unsettled, nothing against the interviewer but I just can't watch any more! Bob is a great director, I just started watching the BTTF trilogy again a couple of days ago but maybe he was having a bad day or something (day of interview)?
I admit that DP/30 has done some good insightful interviews but having said that, David Poland has this pretentious and an "all knowing" "cocky attitude that just puts me off. Case in point.. this interview and many others.
Have to Admit like 'Training Day' Denzel the bad cop ..in Flight the Nudity and Drugs scenes were hard to watch. But I'm sure the Target Audience was not women but young men and Men 18-99. Truly a Male focused film.

+FloydPink23 If you don't like Tarantino thats fine, but lets just Zemeckis is frekin. awesome.

Kubrick was an overrated hack that made pretentious stupid movies.
Zemeckis made the Back to the Future Trilogy, Roger Rabbit, Romancing the Stone, Forrest Gump, Contact, Flight and the Polar Express. This dude is a legend!
A true legend.
One day he will make a hit! He just needs to keep trying.
He can make 100 abysmal movies, it would not diminish the light of those movies in the slightest...
I just watched Flight. It's the best film of the year and one of the greatest movies of the decade.
I love Zemeckis.
One f the best movies I’ve seen. Never get tired of seeing it again and again. Thats what makes a great movie. You could see it over and over again and still want to see scenes from it again.
he has almost the exact same voice as scorsese
He should do more R-Rated movies
A great and honest interview. Even more of a Zemeckis fan now!
Death Becomes Her should get more credit.
He went way too far with editing that film, it's a still fantastic cultclassic but it was much longer originally. I feel he doesn't like it that much... depends what day it is maybe lol.

Love this guy. He is funny and down to earth. Don’t see that often from directors.

A terrific Director who needs to do more expressionistic films - and I count Back toi the Futre i and II in that field
possibly my favorite DP interview... he seems to be ok, just being himself shamelessly...
great interview, he does indeed start off a bit grumpy but gets comfortable throughout - true what he said at the end

Anyone know what project he was talking about that he couldn't get off the ground? I assume he means The Walk.

Why is this clueless interviewer speaking to Zemeckis? Spending the first 5 minutes asking 4 identical questions
0:35 " I don't know how to do any of it"
Should've ended the interview right there...
I have wanted to hear what happened with "Intervention" which previous to Flight was to be is alcoholism film but he wanted "the two Toms" Cruise and Hanks together. Maybe Cruise objected to 12 step stuff because of Scientology.
Ah, well that's good to know. Thank you, I will watch the rest!
Where is my hoverboard?
He was grumpy in the beginning, but the rest of the interview is much more enjoyable!
You're welcome!
We cannot direct wild animals wait for a rainbow to shoot a perfect moment or a cats and dogs. 🤔
omg true!

Fight Zemeckis! Gladly! Oh.
made back to the future....so gets a pass for some of the less effective films. castaway was pretty impressive as well.
I admit that DP/30 has done some good insightful interviews but having said that, David Poland has this pretentious and an "all knowing" "cocky attitude that just puts me off. Case in point.. this interview and many others.
+Some Guy Agreed
Well true but you should see Mehdi Hassan from Al Jazeera he's the absolute worst at interrupting others
Forrest Gump... overrated
Death Becomes Her.... underrated
His voice reminds me of Woody Allen for some reason.
His voice sounds like Scorsese
