In Indian mythology, Mizar and Alcor are known as Vashistha and Arundhati (wife of Vashistha). The two stats are known for their closeness and synchrony that in certain Hindu wedding rituals, the stars are pointed out to the wedding couple.

Polaris or north star in indian astrology is called Dhruv(meaning: axis or fixed) star.
Similarly there is another star in south which never changes its position called agasthya (meaning : having no obstacle before). This also corelates to the less land form in southern hemisphere.
    Namaste 🙏

There are few legends so popular and widespread in both Christianity and Islam as the famous story of the Seven Sleepers "The People of the Cave". The core of this legend appears in the 13th surah (verses 9-26), making it the only Christian story of the Koran which is found neither in the Gospels nor in the Apocrypha. The most striking difference between the mainstream Christian and almost all Muslim legends is that the latter report that it was actually six young men who were fleeing to the cave, the seventh being a shepherd with his dog whom they met on their way. What also makes the following text extremely interesting is that the Seven Brothers refused to join the people waiting for them outside the cave and that, after imploring their Lord, they were taken up to the sky to become the seven bright stars of the constellation of the Great Bear.

Myths and legends about the stars bring unknown cultures closer to us, for we all see the same sky at night (with variations based on our location on Earth). I think every nation has some myth associated with the stars. Traditional star charts are extremely difficult to remember because they don't make sense. Cepheus and Orion and the Scorpion are three recognizable pictures that everyone can find in traditional star charts; however, most of the other constellations just look weird with lines going every which way! It is too bad that only H.A. Rey, an astronomer who fled Nazi Germany to the USA, managed to connect the stars in each constellation to make a recognizable and unforgettable picture. Unfortunately, copyrights and money keep his talent from being known universally, which is most unfortunate for all the little star gazers.

    • @darrellheath9776

@@garyaustin8595 I use "we" in a couple of different ways when talking about discoveries like this: 1) "we" can be used to refer to the astronomical community where such esoteric bits of information have a bit more currency than with the general public or 2) I use "we" to refer to the entire human race. Scientific discoveries are not necessarily owned by the scientists who make them or to the academic communities to which they are germane, they belong to all of us who are interested and who care to learn about them.
Any discovery or claim made by a scientist (or, as in most cases these days, a "team of scientists") must be made available in a peer reviewed journal. If the discovery or claim survives peer review and the observations and/or experimental results can be duplicated by others, then it gains acceptance. So, there is no single "who" that makes a determination about the authenticity of a scientific discovery. If you did good science and can demonstrate to the larger scientific community that your methodology and conclusions are not only sound but repeatable by others, then your discovery is on its way to being accepted. However, if your peers cannot get the same results that you did with their own observations or experiments, then your claim to fame may be short lived.
In this case, the discovery was made by using the methodology and techniques of "spectroscopy", a field of science that's been around since the 19th century. It is essentially taking the light from a celestial source and then using a prism to spread that light out into its constituent colors. What you get is a series of brightly colored bands, marked occasionally by another series of fine, dark lines. We (and here I'm using the word in both of my ways) have known since the early 1800's that every element that you can find in nature has its own unique series of the colored bands and dark lines. In other words, they all have a unique barcode or fingerprint that identifies them. Without going into too much detail, the dark lines are formed when the electrons of individual atoms absorb a discrete amount of energy that allows them to "jump up" from their normal orbital level to a higher one. When they fall back down to their normal levels, the electrons then emit a photon of light., producing the brightly colored bands of light we see in our spectrum.
Turns out that not only can you use these "barcodes of the elements" to know what a star is made of, you can also use them to gain information about their motions, or even the motions of unseen companions. If you were to look at the Sun's spectrum, from say, another solar system altogether, you would just have your standard old series of dark lines and bright bands. But, if the Sun had a smaller companion star orbiting nearby, one that remained hidden inside its glare, then your spectrum might look a bit different. As the companion orbits its primary, it stands to reason that there are then times when its light is heading towards us and then away from us. This orbital motion, all dictated by the forces of gravity, is going to produce some Doppler shifts in those spectral lines. When the star's light is headed right towards us, the spectral lines will get shifted towards the bluer wavelengths of the electromagnetic spectrum. When the star's light is moving away from us, it gets shifted into the redder wavelengths of the spectrum. A star with an unseen companion then produces a spectrum with these Doppler induced rhythmic alterations. But that's not all, you can also use the Doppler shifting in these lines to work out the orbital speeds of binary stars.
Spectroscopy is an astronomy essential. Astronomers cannot go out and directly take samples of stars for later analysis in a lab. But, by knowing a little bit about quantum physics (in this case, how those spectral lines are made), chemistry (knowing that the chemical elements produce their own unique ID codes), the nature of light, gravity and Newton's laws of motion, etc, they have been able to tease out all kinds of information about a universe that would otherwise be hidden from us. Isaac Newton once said, "If I have seen further, it is by standing upon the shoulders of giants." The point being, that scientific discoveries are only made possible by those who came before us. It is from those prior discoveries, the ones made by thousands of individual men and women adhering closely to the scientific method, that survived peer review, the inevitable follow up experiments and observations made by yet other individual men and women, that form the scaffolding for newer discoveries. Therefore, "we" refers not to all of those people who are hard at work on the frontlines of science making new discoveries, it also refers to all of us possessed with the curiosity to learn more.

@@islandbuoy4 The Bible is not his nor mine, it's God's living Word, and God is coming to destroy the WEST for betraying Him. This includes: Western Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand as the main targets. It's been one year since your comment, as you can see, God is just around the corner and He will RESET this world and the play will start all over again.
