I’ve been doing some thinking recently about this channel and a thought popped into my mind overnight. It’s been a really interesting journey sharing my love of the piano with everyone all over the world. It still trips me out that I spend an afternoon recording a track (it has to be the afternoon for those curious about the process, as the piano is lit by natural light - it’s best between 1pm - 4pm in the room that I’m recording in), sitting by myself in front of a piano in my music school, and that people from all over the world get to experience a very private moment of my creative process. What I find particularly interesting though is when I listen back to these interpretations, there’s a pretty strong disconnect between playing/recording the tracks and hearing them back. Without a drop of ego, I personally enjoy listening to these tracks either late at night to help me fall asleep, occasionally in the morning when I wake up to find some more motivation about working on my Radiohead songbook, but my favourite time would definitely be when I’m travelling, especially in airports or on planes, and also on public transport. As there are a lot of returning subscribers and listeners on this channel, my question to you is this: Where and when do you listen to these tracks? What are you doing? Working? Studying? Travelling? Eating breakfast? Passing out? What time of day is it? What do you see? How does it make you feel? I’d be very curious to hear your thoughts, so hit me up. As always, thanks for supporting the channel and for incorporating this music into your lives. Man, the internet blows my mind sometimes x
Hey Josh. I found out your channel this afternoon while working on some stuff, the video I found was Pink Floyd's The Great Gig in The Sky and it made me feel really into the song, like it was part of me. That was a unique experience, such as the one I'm having while I listen to your Coldplay's Amsterdam cover right now. You rock!
Sitting in my living room on the Southern coast of Oregon on a sunny Saturday afternoon. I'll listen to it again on my way to work Monday morning. And probably many times after that. Your interpretation is faithful to the original Coldplay, in-so-far as it inspires the same feelings in me when I listen to it. Well done.
Man, are the bestest in the world, I think. Is the same feeling that I have when I'm listening to the album version, keep going like this! I've a suggestion for a new cover: Prospekt's March - Poppyfields by Coldplay.
Yeah, agreed. I really enjoyed their first two albums, in particular Parachutes. The harmony on that album is well worth checking out for anyone who is interested in harmonic analysis.
Totally agree!! I loved so much "Parachutes" and " AROBTYH" . Personally ,i think, Parachutes is one of the best debut album for a "rock" band ! And "X&Y "and "Viva la vida " were also a good works! but from then on, unfortunately, only very manistream and shoddy works !! Such a pity!! But anw ...for sure this is a wonderful piano cover! Greetings from Italy
I didn't really like Coldplay in the past. Hearing this changed my mind though. I realized I'd judged them too harshly on one or two songs that weren't to my liking and that there were some gems in their catalogue like this. Thank you for changing my mind.
I feel their newer songs don’t do justice to their past ones. I hate to admit that Coldplay got drawn into the pop hype especially in some of their later songs that don’t capture the melancholic feeling like these ones do.
For some reason I overlooked the original version of this song (I guess it got overshadowed by my all time favorite: A Warning Sign). I suppose hearing a song played on a single instrument can reveal its soul and beauty. You did that very well 👏
The common thread in all your feedback is the phrase "reduced me to tears". There is good reason for this because I share the common feeling. Can't quite place what you achieve here but I listen to these for hours - so relaxing - marvelling at genuine talent.
You bring a whole new light to each song. It takes me back. It really does. It's as if I'm falling in love all over again. It's so truely beautiful. It's as if I'm hearing it for the first time. I'm sure Cold play and radiohead would all love what you brought to each one of their pieces. Keep doing it!
You capture the spirit of this song so well. As good as the original in that it conveys the same emotions, but what I like about it is that the original was years ago, I was a younger person then, and so now to hear the same song but in a newer version, I can hear the words myself, and see it with a different lens. Thanks for sharing your gift Josh.
I’ve got to tell you Josh, I could literally listen to your beautiful interpretations anytime, anywhere, but I find myself listening to them when I’ve got a lot on my mind. Your music always brings a tear to my eye. I get completely overwhelmed by its flawless beauty. I can’t thank you enough for sharing your beautiful gift with us.
Come on, oh my star is fading And I swerve out of control If I, if I'd only waited I'd not be stuck here in this hole Come here, oh my star is fading And I swerve out of control And I swear, I waited and waited I've got to get out of this hole But time is on your side, its on your side, now Not pushing you down, and all around It's no cause for concern Come on, oh my star is fading And I see no chance of release And I know I'm dead on the surface But I am screaming underneath And time is on your side, its on your side, now Not pushing you down, and all around No it's no cause for concern Stuck on the end of this ball and chain And I'm on my way back down again Stood on the edge, tied to the noose Sick to the stomach You can say what you mean But it won't change a thing I'm sick of the secrets Stood on the edge, tied to the noose And you came along and you cut me loose You came along and you cut me loose You came along and you cut me loose
usually i listen to your tracks on my way to school, just to have a moment of breathe(writting this while accually listening to "breathe") and get my mind ready for the day.
My dad used to listen to a lot of Coldplay when i was little, so I’m familiar with most of their old music, but I don’t listen to it anymore. I couldn’t put a sound to the name when I was going through your channel, so i listened to the original. It’s now my favourite Coldplay song by far! I love your cover; it’s beautiful. I’m gonna go listen to your covers of bands I haven’t heard of now!
Thanks, Becky. There are some great Coldplay tracks from their first two albums. I'll probably cover a track off Parachutes shortly. Thanks for watching! 😄
Do you also have a sheet of this beautifull piece on musicnotes or will you make one? I think I will buy your Radioheadbook soon, the pieces are really beautifull. My favorite is weird fishes, what a great emotional tune is this and really great emotional playing by you. Your dynamics are so good.
Due to popular demand, I've decided to create a Subreddit at www.reddit.com/r/joshcohenmusic to prioritise upcoming videos. If you'd like to submit your requests, it'll definitely point me in the right direction for future clips. Thanks, Josh :-)
In all honesty, Yulie, I don't really listen to a lot of Coldplay these days. Their first two albums were great, but this is one of my favourite tracks from A Rush of Blood to the Head. I have a couple others from their earlier albums that I'll probably cover at some stage. Glad you enjoyed it! 😀
I've played and sung this song at at Open Mic once, it's one of my favorite Coldplay songs. (I usually don't play the melody line then since it's in the voice.) I believe it's the same official arrangement as you have from Coldplay, but I just wish it sounded as gorgeous as when you play it. Excellent job! And a beautiful piano!
Hey Bob, it's such a beautiful piece and such a great way to finish off the album. Haven't really listened to much Coldplay since this album, but there are some really tasty tunes off their first couple of records. Thanks for the kind words. Cheers, Josh :-)
La mejor interpretación que escuché en piano de ésta bella canción, fiel y perfecta a la original y además el piano suena de ensueño... Felicitaciones!
This is the best piano arrangement of this song I ever seen, really perfect. As also a Radiohead fan, I think I understand why you love this song. I think this song is really inspired by Radiohead. The lyrics could be from Radiohead (looks like weird fishes a bit, from dark to hope). The way of singing, using soft vocals with the headvoice is really the style of Tom Yorke. At least you have that weird effect in the intro and outro of the song, which make me think of Karma Police. Chris also said that Radiohead inspires him as a teenager. Greets Arjen
You certainly move and entertain. ...I listen in the evening/night time...big stress buster...especially the Floyd..I grew up on that..Breathe in the air, don't be afraid to care. I absolutely agree! Those are the best of their albums. If i could choose one song it would be Trouble or Everything's not lost... Or Don't Panic :D It's hard to choose :) Keep up the good work! :D
Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us, all of your covers are extremely beautiful! ❤ Coldplay is my favourite band and it'd be really nice if you could play more from them (maybe another one from the second album). Anyway... I'm just really happy I found your channel!
This is the second video of your channel i have watched so far,the first one is daydreaming of radiohead. Both are amazing and relaxing to hear. These songs may be simple to play but they are the main reason makes me start playing piano. And you covered those songs so well .Definitely you will go further in the future, you got my subcribe :D
2024 update! New piano tutorials and sheet music coming soon: emergencypianohotline.com
What a track to finish off an album. This has last track vibes written all over it. What do you think?
One of my all-time favorites, and a fantastic way to end a fantastic album! And this cover certainly does it justice.
Thanks An, appreciate the kind words. Thanks for watching :-)
:D you're welcome!~
Where can I buy this album?
Definitely. One of my all time favourite songs. So emotionally powerful
Who else comes back to this once in a while, just to shed a tear? ;)
rick beato sent me here !!!!!!!!that piano intro gives this song lots of texture !!!!!
So do i. Just learned the basics of the song. But this is a whole other level, just perfect

Damn, this brings so many bittersweet memories. Back when coldplay meant something. Cheers
Yeah, agreed. I really enjoyed their first two albums, in particular Parachutes. The harmony on that album is well worth checking out for anyone who is interested in harmonic analysis.
Their first two albums were near perfect (in my opinion). The emotions they hit were raw and potent.
when they were good you mean? agreed
Totally agree!! I loved so much "Parachutes" and " AROBTYH" . Personally ,i think, Parachutes is one of the best debut album for a "rock" band ! They still do bro .
One of my favorites from Coldplay, easily. You captured the atmosphere of the song perfectly.
Thanks, Tristin. I really love this track. There are a few others from Parachutes that I'll probably cover at some stage.
OH GOD PLEASE YES
Josh Cohen you should do Postcards from Far Away. Great Coldplay piano
As someone who holds Amsterdam very close to my heart, this is one of my favorite musical performances of all time.
I just can't explain the transition in 4:25. It's magic. It's Coldplay itself.
Greets from Colombia.
Muchas gracias 😀

One of the best piano covers I’ve ever heard. Brought me to tears. Which seems to be a common reaction based on the rest of the comments.
🥲😉
Well that was absolutely. Beautiful.
Thank you x
The live version always blows my socks off on the way Johnny brings his guitar in
The arrangement is fantastic but your playing is out of this world. You are never in search of a gig. I enjoyed this from beginning to end. Nice work!
Wow, just wow. You just brought this 16 stone, inked, bearded and shaved headed bass player to tears.....beautiful playing bro, I salute you/
Haha hilarious. Glad you enjoyed the ride!
Full of emotions.
Thanks!

Loved this vibe of Coldplay. Very well played
Thank you so much. Glad you enjoyed it. One of my favourite tracks from that record 😀

Took me 6 years to find this but it was worth it, thanks for the beautiful music.
Most welcome x

Thanks Jonathan. It's one of my favourite Coldplay tunes.
Thanks to you for such a good performance, I hope to have that level someday at the piano. Greetings from Venezuela.
Just keep playing, it's only a matter of time :-)
thanks¡
Come on, oh my star is fading
And I swerve out of control
If I, if I'd only waited
I'd not be stuck here in this hole
Come here, oh my star is fading
And I swerve out of control
And I swear, I waited and waited
I've got to get out of this hole
But time is on your side, its on your side, now
Not pushing you down, and all around
It's no cause for concern
Come on, oh my star is fading
And I see no chance of release
And I know I'm dead on the surface
But I am screaming underneath
And time is on your side, its on your side, now
Not pushing you down, and all around
No it's no cause for concern
Stuck on the end of this ball and chain
And I'm on my way back down again
Stood on the edge, tied to the noose
Sick to the stomach
You can say what you mean
But it won't change a thing
I'm sick of the secrets
Stood on the edge, tied to the noose
And you came along and you cut me loose
You came along and you cut me loose
You came along and you cut me loose
Una corda pedal suits this perfectly. Awesome and detailed arrangement and technique!
Beautiful work.. brought me to tears :' )
Thanks, Anna. Glad you found it moving :-)
Awesome piano version, definitely the best one out there. Favorite Coldplay song and even my favorite all time song!

One of my favourite Coldplay songs. I might include Trouble in the mix soon.
Yes please!, I would love to hear you play it
Just waiting to get my piano tuned, I can bang it out in one take I'd say. Played it many times before.
I love this Coldplay had some great music then and still this song it's not that known I live it it's not overrated at all ✨💖👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I really enjoyed your videos too, especially Meat and You: Partners in Freedom.
One of Coldplay's lesser known but very beautiful songs. Sir I like your style :)
Great bit of piano playing how anybody can give thumbs down to this is a mystery.
Dear Josh Cohen, Thank you so much for this beautiful cover! I would like to learn to play it myself, so do you have sheet music available of this masterpiece?
Did you get a responce ?

Hi Giorgi, thanks for the message. I arrange these songs by ear, so unfortunately I'm not reading off any music.
