I want to thank you as You’ve taught me so much about other places and cultures through you videos. The music and the sounds of the wildlife and the visuals are suburb! I feel like I’ve been there and that means a lot to me because I’m disabled and can not travel. So I travel through your stunning videos! This place is gorgeous! The sound of the waves and the beach is so relaxing and so perfect.

Thanks for sharing. I was there in April 2019. Just a few months after the opening. I had the same villa as you did. I liked it a lot. The staff were still on the learning curve. I was a bit devastated the amount of rubbish thrown out from the sea. I really hope we all reduce consumption of plastic otherwise we will be crushed by plastic soon. To conclude, I liked the resort very much on this secluded island.

Dear Doctor, your presentations never fail to take me on wonderful and surprising journeys of the mind. I never know where my thoughts may take me as you take us to far-flung corners of the world. This venue is no different and as I watched your presentation I was thinking about an event just off its coast in May, forty five years ago....
Thank you for this journey, and every journey you take me on. They never cease to amaze me. My Saturday mornings are always thought provoking.

I used to go to bamboo island about 20 years ago when it was empty apart from a few soldiers with a few howitzers hidden in the tree line protecting it from the Vietnamese... I used to walk across the island through the jungle to the other side where there was a little fishing village and a few little wooden bungalows you could rent for 5 dollar a night.... It was stunning ... I felt like Robinson Crusoe ... An English guy with his Cambodian girlfriend built 10 bungalows where the hotel stands with a nice round restaurant/bar ... I stayed there for a few years until it started getting a bit too popular then moved on but such wonderful memories....His name was Rupert , had bar Ru in town.... Hi Trent if you read this ( barman)
    Paul.

Thank you for sharing those memories, Paul. Interesting insight into the history of that region. Its fascinating (and maybe a little informative) to think back over the changes that occur throughout history. Twenty five years prior to your experiences on Bamboo Island, and about forty miles off its coast, the SS Mayaguez incident unfolded, and the final American action of the Vietnam War concluded It is good that we acknowledge and remember the past, but better that we celebrate the relative peace and prosperity of the present. Thank you again and best wishes, Paul.

@@afletchermansson4418 yes I have seen that documentary about the missing American soldiers ... Tragic event... It was 20 years ago I was there and all was peaceful at that time.. I think the last foreigners killed by Khmer rouge was mid nineties in Kampong trach caves... The local people were poor by our standards but always happy and jovial and eager to meet and talk with foreigners... I went back 2 years ago and the Sihanouk ville region has undergone dramatic change with the Chinese investment ... It's a casino town now with high rises along the coastline and private beaches... I didn't like it there anymore.

Yes it seems like the location had a troubled past and to traditional Asians, there were quite a few signs from some of the exorcism artefacts placed aroubd , which were really disguised as interesting objet' arts at both the mainland and resort.

Calm and tranquil surroundings with the sweet chirping of small birds and their heart rendering whistle has stolen my heart. Still it reverberates. The golden soft sands beach, roaring sounds of waves and it's surroundings is ideal for holidaying. The teakwood floors, furnitures, sleek corridor leading to restaurant and beach is awesome. The pool areas of natural water color is mesmerizing. Your videography excellent.

At the outset I would like to say bravo for having travelled to Cambodia during the peak of the pandemic. On top of that with your children. Your easy going and fun approach to life is commendable.
A swing by the beach bang in the middle of the waves. To go up in the air with the wind against you and literally and figuratively letting your hair down, how cool can it get.
The trees close to the shore is also a rare sight to behold. So Utopian doc. The architecture of the resort is out and out modern giving one a sense of openness. The tiered swimming pool and the pleasant sound of water trickling down speaks volumes for your filming abilities. I could hear the distinct sound of the cricket singing. Great job. Your kids are so adorable. Wish I could watch your videos 24/7 with not a care in the world.

to compare with other alila product that I seen before, alila Koh russey is a quite simple and small. but the main strength of the resort is i think is the lush indigenous landcaping and private beachfront/ island for its guest. the architecture is toned down to not overwhelmed the nature as it is.

I used to go there in 2013 for diving around there while it has nothing & is like a virgin island with a few residents live there. Now it's gone...

Now here's a resort fashioned by someone who knew how to balance the designs and the colors.
    This is a real winner.
    Thanks for sharing:)
    Cheers,

Yes at first it seemed bland but sitting and watching throughout the 40 over minutes show the care that went into the design and maintenance.

The private island resort looks beautiful. Unfortunately it appears to be permanently closed now - not even for the end of 2020 (I can't see it available to book via the Alila website or Hyatt's website). Did the hotel staff mention to you if it would be closing for an extended period of time for COVID-19 lockdown?
