    So helpful! We have an auditory learner who really struggles with spelling. We’ll see. Right now we’re trying spelling you see.

      @@CalmintheChaosHomeschool do you feel like it takes a long time and would a 5th grader start at level A?

      @TheChan7 I don’t think it would take long daily and for struggling speller in 5th grader, I would definitely start at level A. I think there is a placement test on their site.

    This looks awesome!!! My kids struggle with spelling word lists and prefer spelling in context as well!!!

      Look into spelling-u-see
      My daughter is going in 3 rd grade. She would be using Americana. I’m trying to decide on which one to choose. Good luck

    Sorry if didn’t work out for your daughter! That is the beautiful thing about homeschooling, we can find just the right fit for our kiddos! For instance, we love all about spelling but it just didn’t work for us. On the other hand, we have found great success with phonetic zoo! I hope you find something that fits better for your family! Thank you for the spelling sheet resource! 😊

      Thank you! I think we’re going back to Spelling You See :) That’s worked for us so far… why I was trying to fix something that wasn’t really broken? Only homeschool moms know :)

    Have you used IEW's Phonetic Zoo Spelling Program? I would love to hear how it worked for you!

    What age/grade is this aimes toward? Is that how they expect a child to start spelling from the very beginning?
    I really like IEWs writing curriculum and I was curious about this Phonetic Zoo thing but after seeing the materials, no thanks.
    Our current curriculum is very overwhelming to learn to teach, but now that we've been using it several years I'd still rather use it than something like this. I'm able to teach my kids how to sound out and spell a word in their mind all before ever writing it down. We learn "ai" and "ay" but not like that, and we learn rules but in a more interesting and engaging way than what looks like a long memory ditty, and memorizing word instead of learning to know how to put each word together part by part.
    I don't like all the time and effort I've had to put into our current curriculum, but at this moment I feel like the return is worth my investment.

      It is recommended for ages 9+. Before that, they recommend All About Spelling. So I assume that you should complete All About Spelling before starting this. Perhaps that is what you are using? We haven’t used that as it sounds like a lot to me. But maybe that’s why this didn’t work so well?

    • @goodfriendacres5633
      @goodfriendacres5633 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @CalmintheChaosHomeschool Oooooh, that makes more sense. I can see how that could possibly work. Yes, that is probably why this didn't work and would definitely be a key foundation for using this Phonetic Zoo curriculum.
      No, I'm not using All About Spelling. What I'm using requires even more work. AAS gives you lessons to follow in a sort of open and go style. Mine gives you information and steps but I still have to teach and figure out lessons. It gets easier with familiarity but definitely more work.
      If I wasn't so deep into what we have already I'd be looking at using AAS, or more likely Logic of English. Although when I recently looked at Logic of English it seemed a little more complicated than I prefer on the part of what the student has to learn. But not terribly different. And it looked like the lessons were organized for me the teacher better than what I'm currently using (Spell to Write and Read).

      @@goodfriendacres5633 I used Spell to Write and Read about 20 years ago when I was teaching English :) So I’ve forgotten the program, but am familiar with it :)

    Do they really expect the child to hear the word and spell it before being taught HOW to spell that word? Or am I not understanding how it works? Seems like a lot of pressure for the child and set up for failure if their first go at the list is to just guess how to spell everything and then only learn the right way after misspelling a bunch of words. I don't get it.

    • @CalmintheChaosHomeschool
      @CalmintheChaosHomeschool  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think they are supposed to learn the rule and then study the words. Then keep taking the test until they know it all. Then focus on number right, not number wrong… Spelling You See works better for us.

    Have you found a better program? Currently using AAS and its not working and my kid dislike. I am think maybe this one but I don't think she would like the audio

    This looks amazing but it sounds like the lessons would be a little long. How long did you all spend on them? Or did I miss that part?

    • @CalmintheChaosHomeschool
      @CalmintheChaosHomeschool  ปีที่แล้ว

      So, the lessons are actually short after the initial lesson (which wouldn’t be long either). It’s just review the jingle and listen to the spelling words, write them out, then check you answers.

      I’m sure it’s useful for some kids… but, for some, it’s just not the right approach :)
