Gold Leaf Over Collage Experiment

In this video I'm working on a small collage to see if I put gold leaf over the collage will that be a good shortcut or a disaster. I'm working on an 8x10 deep cradle wood panel. And using my gel prints for the collage.

Thanks. I agree but this was a test for another larger piece that was going to include the mulberry paper. So I decided not to do it this way. That video will be out this thursday or friday.

Thanks. I usually use wax paper to pick it up but didn't have any. So I tried the freezer paper and I think it works even better.

great experiment. i've used gold lame fabric in collage. but it also goes on lumpy when on top of other layers. but it's less expensive & easier to handle.

I decided it was too lumpy. On this one it's fine but when I do the larger one it will be better smooth. Thanks for your feedback.

@@SusanCliftonArtist it might be interesting if you texturized the area on purpose with paste so the area would have an even texture. I was thinking that if the rest of a large piece would have “texture “ created by the designs on the paper it would be more coherent. On the other hand contrast is good too. I think I will try cutting some shapes from a separate piece of paper, both smooth and with texture to see which looked better with a specific piece. If there was one you particularly liked you could collage it down on the larger piece. It could be handy to cut several shapes at the same time, as backgrounds or accents. Then you would only need to clean up all the little bits once and it would save having to mask the areas where you didn’t want the gold. I have always said that laziness is the mother of invention. 🥰

Do you have any idea why the leaf needs special glue? Why could you not just use any other glue and apply the leaf while it is tacky?

I've tried other glue and the gold leaf gets a milky film on it with some. I sometimes use Tacky when dry by Crafters medium. That works well with stencils. amzn.to/3u2TL6N
