  • CNames map subdomains to domain names. You can point MAIL.domain.com to the Gmail portal for your company, or SALES.domain.com to SalesForce.com. This allows you to use an easy to remember naming strategy for users to access different web services.

    You need more visualizations & Examples in your videos, for a visual learner its hard to hold focus on your points.

    Great video! Thanks for clarifying CNames for me and the other laziest around here😅
    Jokes besides I researched it 3 times so far in different occasions but couldn't get it to stick into my head. Your way of putting it was really simple, clean and explanatory

    That was crystal clear unlike other people on TH-cam overloading with the unnecessary technical details without actual getting close to the point.
    Thank you sir.

    At first, I thought it was a 5-hour video to explain a 5-minute concept. Some of the others are. But it was a pleasant surprise. Thanks Eli.

    G'day Eli. Clearly you know what you're talking about but that was as clear as mud to someone who wanted to know what a cname record is. If your pupil doesn't know what a cname record is what's the point explaining it with terminology and concepts that are as complex or even more so than what I wanted to learn from your video initially. Now I have to go watch 10 other videos to understand this video so I can solve my original problem. If you're going to teach basic concepts, keep it BASIC dude... Short, to-the-point, basic explanation is all I needed...

    Nice one Eli. I wonder if you might do one that explains WHERE you set records. Now before you think that's simple to answer, let me explain further:
    When you rent a dedicated server...in my case from Kimsufi/OVH, you get a server with ip address. You also get a control panel that allows you to install whatever OS yo want, restart the server, etc.
    This is a control panel only for such purposes, not a control panel ON the server, but For the server.
    In that control panel, you can set your hostname, which needs to also be set up at your domain name provider, now what records do you set and WHERE if you install a hosting control panel such as Kloxo, or any of them really.
    At the server, at the domain name provider or at the Kimsufi/OVH control panel?
    Your thoughts would be interesting, thanks.
    ps: If you have any experience with setting up the KloxoMR hosting control panel, that would be phenomenal as no one seems to have any admin manual for it.

    So can subdomain point to same domain right?

  • @peacelover8245
    @peacelover8245 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks! So is the Cname always masked? For example my url is app.bla.com but I ask my app customer to point a Cname to my app subdomain as follows: bla that points bla.mycustomer.com to app.bla.com ... This allows my customer to keep their big company site appearing like they host everything themselves but really they are pointing to my app SaaS named app.bla.com ... QUESTION - Will their name always appear masked, or when the redirection occurs, does my true subdomain appear? Thanks

    Always put a dot at the end of the cname record when pointing to a 3rd party server. MX records too.

    please can you explain this scenario for me? i have this two subdomains: sms.ugarsoft.com and sms.ifihear.com both are pointed to a single ip. they show the same content, but each admin login and can modify the logo(cms). I want to understand what is happening at the ip location how it handles the two domain at the server. I want to set up a service like that.

    • @davidprestidge7806
      @davidprestidge7806 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This will be something call Virtual Hosts (Apache) or Bindings (Windows IIS). Configured on the server with the single IP is two websites, each refer to a different folder on the server for the individual website. When the website is requested, it is Matched to the URL that requested it, and returns the correct website.
      It gets a bit more complex, as they can be usings Re-write rules to represent a 'shared base website' but just the 'branding' is redirected to a different set of content on the server. That what they tend to do for white labelled services.

    • @OkokohBenjaminEkuma
      @OkokohBenjaminEkuma 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      thank you but this is not the case: different folder? no way, I was looking at same folder thing. same content, different domain. but this content is cms and should know which domain is live and make some content change like title. I ACTUALLY FOUND THAT I COULD BE DONE WITH DOMAIN PARKING AND I AM TRYING TO TEST THAT OUT. thanks for the response
