The 41st anniversary of this broadcast. At 21:30, there was the indication that America would soon be returning to greatness and renewed national pride after the Kennedy Assassinations, Vietnam, Watergate and Malaise.
Ronald Reagan did not seek the office of president...the office of president sought him.

Well said. He was a teacher and a motivator for a nation that needed both.

Dwight Eisenhower could crush Ronald Reagan in a hypothetical match up! The Republican Party needs moderates like Dwight Eisenhower instead of conservatives like Ronald Reagan!!!

Relax skippy he was speaking of Free Trade with Canada (1988) and then NAFTA which did not come until 1992.

You could simply use this entire video to run for president in 2022. How can it be that we're still facing these same problems forty years later?

TO me he is the best President America has ever had and I keep watching and listening to him every single day I feel disappointed by my Country's leaders.

I find it fascinating to hear political ads and such from before I was born.

He's wearing a similar tie to the one he wore for his farewell speech.

He also said we (Americans) are generous, sometimes naïve, and often wrong--- and that liberty should be "responsible liberty" he's obviously not advocating for unfettered open borders but is assuming both Mexico and Canada will rise to the standard of responsible liberty that the is foundational to the U.S.

Reagan inherited double digit inflation, double digit interest rates, and the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. That was the hell. Hence Reagan was elected in a landslide, and since he turned all that mess around and presided over the biggest economic boom in American history, he was re-elected with a 49 out of 50 state victory. The American people obviously didn't think the Reagan years were 'hell'. More closer to heaven, actually.

@@Yobbie72 The government of Ronald Reagan eliminated the social programs that helped maintain social mobility in the United States. During his term, unemployment, inequality and poverty increased. Thanks to his political ideology, the Federal Government stopped investing in science, education, and all these policies led to the deindustrialization of this country and the increase in university tuition. The social problem the United States is experiencing is directly related to the neoliberal ideology that Ronald Reagan professed. In the 1980s, the life expectancy of the US was greater than that of the British on average, now Europeans enjoy a life expectancy of approximately 4 years more than Americans. In this country less than 1% is invested in research and development, but this country has the largest army in the world while 50 million people live in poverty and two million people are homeless. If you consider that these policies helped this country, I think you should inform yourself a little more. This is an explanation of why China has surpassed the United States on all fronts, because American politicians prioritize their ideology than common sense.

@@LennonSTM poverty fell during Reagan. As did unemployment. Real family income went up. Money for food stamps increased. Government revenue almost doubled. I think you are sadly misinformed.
