What I don't hear people talk about so far about the s2400, this thing knocks! I'm talking about, whatever they did internally for how it manipulates audio, this thing beats your speakers up. It sounds thick. I don't think there's anything internally cheap built into this machine. I watched a video of ski beats make a song over that he produced for Jay z on the sp1200, and recreated it on the s2400, the version on the s2400 sounded Superior. That alone says a lot. This thing has its own sound, I bought one and have the intent on buying a second one. One to sell in the future and one to keep.

I got one about 6 months ago. I love it. The sound is almost spot on when using analog inputs 1/2 stereo ( with ss filter chip ) to sample off records at 45rpm +, then resample that audio inside the s2400 at 45 rpm, reduce to 10bit ( feature ) and pitch down sample.

I got one and it's dope. I also have a SP-1200. I think if you're buying it because you want a SP-1200 it will fall short. I think if you're buying it because you want a dope sampler of it's own right with a good amount of 1200 similarities and a slightly familiar workflow you will be ecstatic about the machine and it's unique capabilities. The filters are just ''INSANE'' and it's built like a freakin' tank! Give it a few years... And you're looking at a potential classic.
But then again, when it comes to buying gear I have zero discipline... I'm generally a MPC guy and have the whole Roger Linn line plus a 2000. The Ensoniq line EPS 16+, ASR-10, etc... Arturia Matrixbrute and a Moog One.
    I NEED HELP!!!🥺😭

I still have my SP1200 and I still ordered 2 of the S2400. It's workflow is essentially the same plus more sample time and modern extras. I'm in the ISLA Facebook group and the beats members are sharing sound like 🔥🔥🔥. The styles run the spectrum from Bambatta electro to Premo to Easy Mo Bee to J Dilla and 9th Wonder. Other dudes are making house, jungle, drum & bass and neo soul. The only real limitation I've seen is your own talent / creativity. (or lack of) 🤷🏽‍♂️

"4 banks of 8 sample tracks" is what the specs say. They just added outgoing midi sequencing in an update. Each track has a dedicated filter and it's got a looper that looks easy and fun. They might add effects down the line. It's looking pretty good to me, might be interested when there are more out in the world for sale.

***Disclaimer: IT IS NOT AN SP-1200 CLONE! It looks very similar to the SP-1200, it has a similar sound to the SP-1200 but it is not meant to be exactly the same as the SP-1200. It has its own sound and character. It has a lot of modern day features, it is very powerful, and it has a lot of sample time. The S2400 is inspired by the SP-1200 but it is its own machine. With that being said, it is a beast! I love the character, the workflow, the features, the tank build quality, the sound, and consistent updates make it better and better with time. Had it at preorder for early 900 price with discount. Had unit #74
Waited almost 2 years and was told it was shipping with no effects built in .
I sold an mpc live to get it . Was too late to get a refund as told by brad the owner .
First week it arrived I sold it for $1500
It’s a nice unit. Sounds great but in 2021. I don’t need nostalgia. I need a workstation that does it all .
For some it’s great. For me it’s a step backwards. A mpc live or mpc one. Do much
More. For much less . Or even a used MV 8000 can be found for $400, $500 bucks
      That does much more .
If you have been into hardware gear for years
You’ll see the specs don’t warrant the price .
But if your coming from an sp12. Or a 1200
It’s a hell of an upgrade I will definitely agree with that .

The best way I heard this machine described is of the MPC 3000 & SP 1200 had a baby. You literally get digital i/o and analog i/o with super high quality sound.
If this gets the filter board and effects board it'll be one of the best samplers ever made hands down.

  • @gaarakabuto1

I like daw-less beatmaking when making hip hop,it has something wholesome in the whole process.I am not dawless right now,but the daw and the standalone gear are seperate for the most part.If i'd had to choose one gear alone to work with my daw s2400 is the one.
It is so simple and fast to work with it that whenever you are working on something and you want a good 12-bit emulation you take on your desk, within 5 minutes you have your drums ready to go.
I don't think any gear that i ever used for sound designing will ever compete in convenience with it (S-50,ASR-X,SU-10 etc.).Also it will never compete in making a complete beat with any previous workstation or daw (MV-8800,MPC Live,RS-7000 etc.) but i'm pretty sure it's still innovative enough to enjoy when you use that machine alone for making a beat.As long as you have a main workstation or a daw this machine is the best complimentary piece of gear you'd ever get.

I pre-ordered one when it was still called the SP2400 and paid $949. It's been in my possession for 3 months and I am barely scratching the surface of it's capabilities. I have no experience with any samplers and I've only dabbled with my boutique TR-08 and TR-09 machines. I'm over 50 and I find DAW software difficult to learn.

I think i need it. I dont know wtf akai is doing anymore. I dont want a midi controller with a built in ipad.
When akai started down the road of building a daw they bought a licence to use an already existing set of audio specific programming tools/code called Juice or JUCE, i forget the exact name. They had next to no experience and when the Ren dropped boy did it show. They were trying to play catch up to Maschine, and releasing a half baked "my first daw" was such a burn on the community.
This ISLA piece is exactly what I need in so many ways. Seriously considering it as my mpc60 and mpc1000 need constant maintenance to stay alive these days. ISLA gets it. Only other hope is that Behringer clones the 60 or 3000.

i grew up on hardware (ASR-10) however I've been so entrenched with software over the last 15 years, I can't say that i would, even though it is rather intriguing. I probably would if it wasn't so pricing AND if it wasn't on back order half the time lol. Downside is, they’ll only ever be released like that. In small amounts. They’ll produce them as they are purchased sadly. No mass production. So it’s the only way you’ll get one, because the few 2nd hand ones out there already are like 4-5 times the price. SMH.

The EMU SP 1200 CLASSIC, DJ PETE ROCK STAPLE, LARGE PROFESSOR MADE THIS THING DANCE LIKE THE SOUL TRAIN DANCERS,
THE AKAI MPC 60, VERSIONS 1 AND 2 BIG UP TO DJ PAUL NICE FOR PROVING THAT WAS A MACHINE MADE FOR BEAT MAKING.
THE ENSONIQ ASR 10 THE SAMPLING KEYBOARD OF THE LAST CENTURY AND BEYOND.
NOW, As other companies make the next best drum machine, sampler, keyboard....
Us as DJ'S, Producer's, Mixologist and collector's crave for that one machine that is the complete all in one. I personally never owned the EMU SP1200, the closest that I can really say that I have felt the SP1200 flow was on the Yamaha RS7000 and the Roland MC909 in my opinion, I recently added and deleted the Roland MC707 to my collection, not the best but not the worst.
My Tri-Polar personality, keeps me on the Akai Mpc one, the Akai Force, and the Maschine Plus. Now as for the 2400 the whole 8 outs, brings back that 8 outs of the MPC.
It is all the creative vibe that the machine possesses you into. So many hits were designed on just that whether it was the SP 404 or the Original 808 And a track machine circa 1980 Hip Hop.
