I saw Zappa three times in the 70s. One of the shows I attended was made into the Just Another Band From L.A. album. Nothing or no one compares to the genius fo the late great Frank Zappa !!!
Watson's guitar playing is, for non musician me, very percussive and it's easy to see why Zappa liked his style so much. Zappa started off life as a drummer and percussion plays a huge part in the best of Zappamusic.
@@swiftusmaximus5651 He talks about Hendrix visiting his house in his book.... Funny story about Jimi split his pants and Zappa's wife Gail sewed them up for him.....
Not to mention blinded to the point of obliviousness by his own arrogance - as this clip attests. th-cam.com/video/A6ZzTr-a2L8/w-d-xo.html Wherein the guy is spouting this bullshit about the lack of spontaneity and improvisation in the work of his contemporaries. Contemporaries that - JUST LOCALLY ON THE LA SCENE - included the likes of Ry Cooder (who played with Beefheart as a teen) David Lindley and even his own former bandmate Lowell George. What a hypocritical POS.
@@johnbgood52I have no standing to throw down a challenge to the guys' virtuosity. But that has nothing to do with him being scattershot disparaging of most of his generation when - as I just pointed out - some of the true masters of his medium were living just down the block from him, so to speak. Much less guys who WORKED with him. Just shooting himself - and his own credibility - right in the ass, so far as I'm concerned. I was embarrassed for the guy - even posthumously - just watching.
He is from another World I think. Hope I can see him live in person. IMO though Jeff Beck was/is the GOAT Guitarist. Saw him 15x. I was fortunate to see Holdsworth 3rd row. One of the fastest melodic players ever.
Sounds like a brief encounter. Zappa was a charmer/impresario out for whatever he could get from anyone. It's just good that you didn't spend too much time with him, because he would've wound up suing you.@@markgilham2453
He was sloppy as hell but there’s something inspiring to me about his style. He definitely had a unique style, where you can immediately tell it’s him and you can’t say that about many players.
Subscribed! Love the detail you put into this video 👍🏼 I was lucky enough to see King Jeff back in 2016-2017.
Zappa is my forever home base though 🏠

With Flo and Eddie from the Turtles? awesome!
Yup!

He also LOVED Tony Iommi and Black Sabbath--- was also friends with Jimi Hendrix.
Very true!
i heard a interview with Zappa and he didnt talk all that great about Jimi. Zappa thought Holdsworth was the best and of course he is right

No one was more convinced of Zappa's genius than Zappa.

Not a nice guy. InCREASINGLY became not a nice guy.
I met him in 1983 and he was very kind to me as a young guitar player.

Zappa was average guitarist, no point asking him.

@@gabedotti3716 His generation of guitarists almost all had their own sound. Not know.
