    I love all of your videos! I've known so little about farming and you show how to use the free resources you do have to make so many things work. You're like a Macgyver farm lady, lol.
    I don't have support I need from husband to live the homestead life so it will never be what I want. Seeing what you do helps me achieve a lesser version but at least something close. We have chickens and raised bed garden. I bought cattle panels and greenhouse plastic, 12 mil reinforced from the company you used. Then another channel showed how to do a pvc cheaper version with no wiggle wire. After harvesting the beets and wax beans growing now I'll set it up and plant for winter.
    Thank you so much for these videos!

    I, as soon as I’m out of the city one day, would love to try this system. For my cold climate I would be tempted to put a layer of plastic around the base to hold in more heat overnight during the winter months. It would be like an air barrier to slow down the heat dissipation.

    I pick up straw bales that people put on the curb after Halloween, and after Thanksgiving there are more. Even those little ones that are pricey are on the curbs! But if it's been raining they are much too heavy, unless they've been on a porch or protected.
    Straw is a great addition to a garden.
    (It helps to have a truck also!)

    • @campfireaddict6417
      @campfireaddict6417 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @dirtpatcheaven
      @dirtpatcheaven  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used to use straw. The reason I don't it anymore is the massive herbicide and pesticide load on any conventional straw. I was applying it to my trees as a mulch and it killed hundreds of trees. Now I just use good unsprayed hay or wood chips.

    • @campfireaddict6417
      @campfireaddict6417 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dirtpatcheaven Good point but why would herbicides and pesticides be used on straw? Aren't most systemic anyway? I honestly had never thought of that but straw being the end result of wheat, etc. would have no further use other than bedding, and applied to the food crop of wheat, wouldn't caution be used in applying any kind of weed/pest control?

    I really do enjoy watching your videos and learning from your experiments. I live south of you right on the Id/Ut border.
    Have you ever considered doing rabbit colonies rather than the cages? I am aware you would lose some of the fertilizer benefits. I have seen some colony build videos that had “cages” in the colony cage that captured the rabbit droppings in trays under the feeding area. I’d love to see if you could experiment with a rabbit colony.

    One thing I throughly enjoy your videos and I am a new subscriber and I love what you are doing because you have the land and the animals. I do have one point that I must wholeheartedly disagree with you on and that growing food indoors in hydroponic systems. I only have the ability to grow my food indoors and as such I’ve been successful growing sweet red and orange peppers and all kinds of lettuces, I’ve grown broccoli and cucumbers, plus all the various herbs and I’m also growing tatsoi. I’m working on trying to grow tomatoes so I can’t speak to how they taste but I can most definitely tell you that compared to what you can purchase in the grocery store there absolutely is no comparison in taste and flavour. My hydroponic sweet peppers are like candy they are the sweetest vine ripened peppers that I’ve ever had. Same with the lettuce I had no clue that there were sooo many different varieties of lettuce and how they all have different tastes. My first experiment was cucumbers and after I took the first crunchy bite I knew I would forever be growing my own cucumbers indoors. I’ve never looked back I have two sweet pepper plants that give peppers all year long, I had no idea that pepper plants continue to grow year after year and as long as you do a lot of pruning and cutting the roots and tickling the peppers to ensure they get pollinated. This is the best type of gardening for me after five back surgeries I highly recommend anyone that is stuck indoors to definitely consider hydroponic gardening because you can grow amazing tasting vegetables. So I don’t know if you have ever grown hydroponic peppers or cucumbers or lettuce but if not I highly recommend you give them a try because a homegrown hydroponic setup is completely different then commercial growing just as homegrown outdoor gardening produce much different then commercial growers. I wish I could hand you one of my sweet red peppers because I think you would totally rescind your comment about hydroponics and how they taste. Anyway just my opinion and that’s what’s terrific we have these platforms so we can give differing opinions and as I mentioned I’ll continue watching because I think you have a ton of valuable information not necessarily that I can use but I love watching all the animals. I’m wondering if you are concerned about all the commercial glues that are used in the cardboard construction?
    Please consider giving your bunnies small squares of wood to lay on so they can get off the metal wire for some relief. Especially if they are never put on grass. 🥰🙏🏻🇨🇦

      I agree with you wholeheartedly. You see even though I think the flavor isn't as nice I STILL experiment and grow in these raised beds that don't have soil in them. Will have to go look and see your videos as I am always looking for new ideas to implement! Thank you for the lovely comment.

      @@dirtpatcheaven 2 weeks ago I was asking about rabbits. Was undecided and vacillating on whether or not I should have them. Well, now I have 6 of them and I’m frantically trying to build frames to support the cages. Just one young buck, so the 5 does should be ok for a week or two. The buck is full New Zealand and one of does is pure Rex. The other 4 are mixed NZ/Rex. It started raining just as I got home, so there wasn’t enough time to build the stands in the old horse shed. I have them in my house. Hoping they don’t spray everywhere. I have a catch tray under the cage. Sure is getting stinky in here. Tomorrow they’re definitely going to the horse shed. After seeing their benefits in your videos, and since the lady selling them wanted to reduce her feed bill and cage space, I agreed and bought all 6 for $20. The cage cost more. I’m using a large tuna fish can as a water dish. Seems to work fine.
