- Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitoring - Testing for BAC - Blood Alcohol Concentration. CAM stands for Continuous Alcohol Monitoring.
But SCRAM - Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitoring - is a trade name used by the company that first developed and patented the now familiar SCRAM bracelets.
The CAM device or “bracelet,” uses a combination of infrared light and a sensor to ensure - based on skin density and temperature - that it is affixed to a human body.
It also uses something called an electrochemical fuel cell to measure for the presence of ethanol, ethyl alcohol.
CAM is placed right above the ankle because it poses, at least potentially, the least interference with daily activities.
The fuel cell measures an electrical current created by the number of ethyl alcohol molecules produced from a person’s sweat glands.
We call that TRANSDERMAL alcohol monitoring and measuring,
CAM measures, tracks, and reports three things:
1. Body Temperature
2. Skin Density
3. Alcohol
As you may understand, Continuous Alcohol Monitoring can be a very helpful, but complicated area of law.
