The absolute BEST plenum removal video out there. I will be upgrading to the MONSTER RAM soon and wanted a good video. Found it. Thank you. No unnecessary chatter and lots of useful tips.
I have a 2016 2500 70k. I am doing this Glacier Diesel grid heater also. I just got the parts in 2/18/23. I'm still going to use my stock intake though. Your video is a great help. Thank you for putting this out there.
Just an update. I got the whole Grid heater install done. Took me 4 hours start to finish. I will be buying a set of stubby metric wrenches for sure. Install went smoothly, hardest part was loosening the # 6 injector line to remove the injector line body. I did remove the engine lift hook which made it easier to install. I cleaned up the block with a scotch Brite pad and sprayed a little break clean on a rag and wiped it down. I re installed everything in reverse order and tighten the injector lines. I reattached the grounds to the batteries and cycleed my key a few times to get fuel in all the injector lines before I tried to start it. Cranked her over about 10 times continuous and it fired right up. No leaks and you can here the grid heater cycling. I don't have a raytec gun to check heat but it's really hot to touch after it cycled a few times. I did all of this as a precaution. When I took my original out everything was tight I just don't want a problem. My son's broke on him 2012 Ram 2500. The bolt went in the #6 cylinder and $6500 later he is running. Next will be a Fleece high Flow fuel in tank fuel pump to keep the CP3 injection pump cool by supplying plenty of diesel.
This has by far been the best YT video out there on step by step. Appreciate this a lot, great work man! Question- do you think the GDP grid heater would work on a stock intake? I’ll be installing the delete kit.. but have not ordered the grid heater yet but curious if I have to go aftermarket on the manifold or can I just use the one you have in the video here for a stock intake? Thank you! Awesome work man!
I wish I knew! I have seen One other person mount the GDP heater to another aftermarket elbow/ intake, but I don't know about the stock one. I should have checked that when I had it apart. GDP was always responsive to my emails, I bet they would be able to tell you. Good luck with your install, I sure like mine 👍
@@anesthesiadreamin I want to do this to my 2015. Granted here in middle GA it doesn't get really cold but once or twice every few years or so. I took the cable loose from the solenoid after about six months from purchase date, bought it brand new in 15. Great videos. Thanks.
@@moes3828 IIRC it's the same bolt pattern, so I don't see why it would not work. I guess there's a chance that it doesn't and then you're stuck waiting for the part, unless you just put it all back to factory. Actually, if you email or call GDP, they can probably answer that question 100%. Sorry, I'm just not positive
Everyone going to find out that you should eliminate the grid entirely!! Put the banks in my truck. Grid catches carbon which will build up narrowing the air flow. No grid in the banks
Love the banks. Breaths good, have 31 lbs boost. Wish you could see my original grid after 7 years of use . Caked with shit !! Truck was getting air through maybe 5/6 quarter size holes!! Crazy !! Eliminated the killer bolt. But the grid is a cabin catcher. Takes a little time to do about a good 6/8 hours but the instructional video was easy to follow. Of course the first time takes a few but could do another one in half the time with my eyes closed !! Too bad I only have the one truck ! Hahahaha scale 1 to 10 maybe a 7?
When you installed the power wire to the back of the GDP grid heater, did you need to install some type of nylon/rubber washer under the bottom nut so that the power wire only contacts the stud ? Or does it not matter on this setup
If I understood your question correctly, I *think* I explain this at the beginning of part one . So no rubber washer, it doesn't matter which stud you connect your hot wire to, they're both connected together by a plate. And this is necessary because the two connecting studs each have their own grid heater inside the body. So one power wire connected to one stud powers both studs, and thus powers both grids. I hope that answered your question. Hey, thanks for watching 👍
Hey just installed mine today, did you have any trouble getting the elbow on with the #1 fuel line , mine was touching so had to die grind a bit, and cut off the locating tab.
I didn't cut mine, but I think I know what you're talking about, when I did mine I had to finagle it for a bit and finally got it to fit. Now that you mention it they could have done a better job with that.
I wiggled the line as I threaded the nuts on to make sure they were centered, then just snugged them firmly then gave each one a "bump" on the wrench to make sure. The socket "adapter" I bought (and never used) was just a waste of money, there is no way I could get it on all the fuel line nuts
@@tylerw.9305 For sure! Let me know how it goes. I have been checking my fuel line connections for leaks every 2 weeks or so just to be sure. Good luck and let us know how it goes!
@anesthesiadreamin absolutely! I will report back once im done. I am installing the black market performance kit so slightly different but same process to install. If I have time I will grab a video of it as well!
Thoughts on the BANKS RAM air replacement? I'm not sure what the failure rate is on these bolts for the grid heater (I agree, horrible design) but have been thinking about swapping this out. I'll look into the Glacier replacements as well. GREAT video and good angles to see what is going on! I have a few questions that I'd like to ask (but not in the public realm). Do you have a email address? Thanks,
Banks is the way to go. You want to eliminate the air from passing through the grid period. Just gives carbon deposits a place to cling to. Put a banks in my truck. Has a pre heat without the grid
My concern with banks system is that if the relay fails and power stays on "their" Heater bolt will fail (possibly melt pieces) that STILL possibly fall into the intake. This system has the grids and the associated nuts down and below stream - not to say that the turbo air could not still blow loose parts in and up into the intake. For very cold climates this system has the heat further away which could be a negative. Finally I read that Banks system uses a one and done fuel rail (that had to be made to go around the enlarged monster ram) that must be replaced if taken off later for another issue. @@ingergriggs4626
Great video and testing!
YOU DID ONE OF THE BEST DO IT YOURSELF VIDEOS i HAVE SEEN.....THIS WAS PRECISE AND CLEAR TO UNDERSTAND...EXTREMELY PROFESSIONAL
I agree!!! I work on my 6.7 as a shade tree mechanic and man you did stellar.
I agree one of the best

It does indeed work with the stock intake horn. It just replaces the throttle valve

Good stuff. Subbed. Thank you. Keep it up.
I don’t like that glacier diesel intake. It only has 5 bolts
Have you had any problems with your air intake from gdp
not yet. Have you heard of problems?
Being the map sensor is after the heater has the heater melted or damaged it?
That's a good question, I never thought of that, but I haven't had a code yet.
