Enjoyed your reaction. I remember when he was getting really big in the mid 80smy friend who was in a Montreal band was at my place and I said have you heard of this guy Jeff Healey and my friend told me he knew him and sometimes did gigs with him. Then he told he was coming to town soon and if I wanted to go meet him. Of course I said yes and not only did my date and I meet him but we were seated at his table with the band but also with a few other members of other bands. One of which was a member of Supertramp. He was a really nice guy to get to know a bit that night
If no one else has already said it: 1. Jeff is about 22 when this is made. 2. The bass player is a young Marcus Miller. 3. Dr. John was a renowned pianist. 4. Omar Hakim is on drums. He is awesome. This is as good as it gets for a band.
Jeff Healey was blind at the age of one(from cancer), started guitar by the age of 3, had his first band at 13, playing the club/bar scene in hometown *Toronto* (he even learned to play clarinet and trumpet) Funny you should mention *Stevie Ray Vaughan.* Stevie considered Jeff a friend, and one of his favorite guitarists, after discovering Jeff in 1985.(remaining close friends till Stevies death in 1990). You should check out the video of them playing together. After multiple fights with cancer, Jeff finally lost the battle in 2008. And has been missed ever since.
He was the musician in the movie "Roadhouse" with Sam Elliott and Patrick Swayze. He battled several forms of cancer since childhood and finally lost his battle several years ago. I believe he was self-taught as a musician.
Tbh you didnt even need to say anything, your face said it all 🤣 Jeff Healey was an equal to SRV and there’s a live video with both where you can see the mutual respect for each other.
It's a sad thing that this man isn't even mentioned anymore! He played with giants SRV, Clapton, B.B. King, he blew everybody that watched him play away!
Yeah it's because was Canadian. If he was an American he would have been. Bigger down there. He is a national treasure to us though. Jeff was the type of Guitarist that he was the guitarists guitarist if you know what I mean.
Mid/late '80s, Victoria BC, a Thursday night: Me and some of the boys headed out to a local meat market / pick up bar that usually had a DJ. (🤭 Hey, I was young, well, late 20s, and horny! 😂). When we arrived, we were perplexed to discover there was a lineup, with posters advertising a live performer that week, with praises by the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan and B.B. King. So, what the hell, we waited in line. Once we got in we sat at a table right by the dance floor, about 15 feet from a two foot raised stage. After ordering our beer, the band came out, obviously guiding a blind guy. My buddies and I kind of looked at each other quizzically. They sat him down in a chair onstage, he put the guitar on his lap, and when he started to play my world changed. It was Jeff Healey, before his first album came out: I had never heard of him, but he had my attention now. He played the cleanest, most amazing, unbelievable guitar licks I'd ever heard. He played blues, he played rock, he played Hendrix better than Hendrix, he played with his teeth, he played while literally jumping around blind like a mad man. He seemed to be having a religious experience. Despite it being a dance club, nobody danced that night. Everybody stood around, hypnotized, with their mouths agape, staring, hardly believing what we were seeing and hearing. I went back Friday and Saturday, and again every night the following week as he was doing a two week gig there. His first album came out shortly thereafter, and I sadly never got to see him again. But I still feel blessed.
I saw him open for SRV at Alpine Valley and Jeff was better! I also so Jeff at the Vic and the Park West in Chicago! Best live guitar performance I have ever seen!
Bass players presence. Watch him and where he stands and when. He is his surroundings. It's fascinating to watch how they work together. Learned it by seeing Ronnie Milsap a lot when I was young. He always has someone close by. It's a gift some people have. Like that Bass player. Play this again and watch him, you'll notice it I'll bet. He doesn't even need to say anything.
Jeff really made the movie. It's so nice to hear someone who is super talented. He and Patrick Swayse were good buddies on and off the set. One of my favorite movies at the time. I still have the DVD in my collection and watch it from time to time. RIP brother's God Bless You.
Jeff Healey is one of the most underrated talented guitarist/musician/songwriter in the world. He played the guitar better blind than most people who can see and he also played Trumpet. He was absolutely incredible!! He was definitely a Jazz man. Gone way too soon. Miss you, Jeff. RIP!!
I had the good fortune to see him and his band play at a cozy little theater venue in Ventura, CA. in 1991. Still one of my favorite concerts. He was INCREDIBLE.
I can't believe I forgot about Jeff Healey! I haven't heard him in years. He and his band were magic. I was already married when this band hit the airways. Even bought his records. Ii don't know if anyone has said this yet, but Jeff Healey was blind since childhood due to an eye cancer, which is why he played the guitar on his lap. This band was extremely popular. Then, all of a sudden, he was gone, as in passed away. Thanks for the beautiful reminder of a kick-ass band and wonderful singer.
Awww, Jeff! Such a talent through so much adversity. RIP you beautiful man. Ty, there are really great clips of Jeff and best friend SRV. Jeff’s most beautiful song - Angel Eyes. Must hear!
This reminds me of traveling with my friends through Nebraska, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado and on home to Missouri. We listened to Blues like this the entire trip. It was a great time!
I was fortunate enough to meet Jeff Healey back stage after a show . Witnessing him live is an experience not to be forgotten - I still get goosebumps now and then .I asked him about his technique and he just told me to work the chords out on my lap and practice hard - and I did (Im no where near as good as he was ). Rest in Peace Jeff Healey.
I was lucky enough to get to see Jeff play 3 times back in Michigan with my dad and brothers, back in the early '90s, once with Big Sugar (another band you should check out) opening for him. Another great jam by Jeff is The Better It Gets from his live in London vhs tape. For some reason he never put that one on any album. Rest In Peace Jeff and thanks again for all of the music.
I don't know how it feels to be blind but neither does Jeff Healy God gave him the gift of sight through his hands and vocals and that to me is a amazing gift in itself.
Jeff Healey played his guitar with the instrument flat on his lap, resulting in what 'Guitar Player Magazine' called "astounding fluid blends and vibrato"' He blended jazz, rock and the blues. He'd strum and pick with his right hand and use his left hand flat to make the cords, like he was playing a piano, Mr. Healey had his own band for fifteen years. He also played with "Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band." Jeff Healey was a multi-talented gentleman. His legacy lives on......God Bless.
Man oh man loved this, amazing talent. Amazing guitar riffs, just blew me away. Now I have to go watch “Road house”. Need to go and listen to his other songs. RIP Jeff ❤️
I bought this “cassette” when it came out. Right before I had to go back to work at a mill I almost died at a year earlier. Helped me get out emotions...
Saw him open for Bonjovi in an arena, still the greatest guitarist Ive even seen,.Place was speechless when they realized he was blind and had to be helped off the stage.
Modern Renaissance Man, this is from a TV show called Night Music or Sunday Night Music. David Sanborn (sax) was the host, and Marcus Miller (bass) was the musical director for the first season. It ran 2 seasons, 1988 to 1990. Jools Holland also hosted and has a similar show on BBC that has run since 1992. The show was eclectic in nature (similar to your reaction videos) and featured Miles Davis, Bootsy Collins and Stevie Ray Vaughan himself as guests to name a few. You play bass. You should DEFINITELY look up and study the incomparable Marcus Miller, the bassist in the video. You would enjoy! God Bless.
You reacted to him once before - 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps'. So very talented and taken so very young. I know you've reacted to 'Look At Little Sister' by SRV but you should check out the one of him and Jeff Healey. Magical. Great reaction and thank you very much for doing this. God bless.
Had the honor of seeing him with Joe Satriani and a third guitarist i can't remember at this moment around this time frame. Most impressed with Jeff though. Blind man playing like Jimi
Many great guitarist wanted play with Jeff and did. Roadhouse kinda catapulted them to being known. By far one of the greatest ever. Vastly underrated by by people making list of top players.
You really need to listen to him sing Angel Eyes. It is soulful, and I can sit and listen to it over and over. I don't remember when I first heard it, but for some reason a snippet of it ran across my mind one day and I researched until I found it. Now I will bring it up once in a wile and just repeat it for 45 minutes. I am listening to it as I type this, as a matter of fact, and probably will be for a while yet. :)
This was awesome ! I had never heard of him, until two years ago ... and he was playing with Stevie Ray Vaughan ..when he jumped up all of a sudden .. it shocked me because I didn't know he was blind. I was wondering why he was playing the guitar sitting down, but I figured he was crippled. Loved this!
Not sure why but he never got the props he deserved while he was living. Most people never heard of him before the movie "Road House" my favorite exchange in that movie was actually.... "Play pretty good for a blind white boy"..."yeah and I thought you'd be bigger" lol but he had a pretty big hit with "Angel Eyes". If you look him up on TH-cam there are TV spots, where he played with STV. Yet I know I knew nothing about him till the movie. Loved that part were he paid tribute to Jimmy H. at the end as well as the standard blues run. This was a new on for me by him glad your patron sent that in and really thankful it didn't get blocked. Lol
I'm with you, Ty. I don't recall hearing this before, and I love the Blues! But he is awesome. Definitely some similarities to SRV. ETA: now I'm compelled to look up everything he ever did
What a guitarist and performer. You are spot on in your reaction and analysis. You are a good man, not only for your taste in music. Would you please react to Sam and Dave's "Hold On, I'm Coming" and "I'm a Soul Man"? I love old school R&B. I'm glad to be a patron.
You can see Stevie and Jeff together on TH-cam. Jeff was very successful north of the border. You could see him in bars and concerts in the 80's and 90's when I was running around.
Jeff Healey and Stevie Ray Vaughan did a show together you have to check it out I apologize I don't remember the venue but it happened and it was magical are you have to please check this out it is absolutely amazing I know Stevie Ray Vaughan's work and I know Jeff Healey's work you're at to yourself to check this out please ✌️
This is hilarious I was looking for the clip of Jeff and SRV playing on a TV show ran into this clip was going to send it to you then found you did it a year ago. 😂😂😂

We (the Canadians) knew who Jeff Healey was, and Heaven is a more rockin' place since he left us 😢
Love the bass player standing over Jeff at the end, but what we watch is joy and we get joy from the joy. Wonderful.
When God puts Talent in someone , No Handicap can hold them back !

Jeff also played a mean jazz trumpet. Way to talented!!!
Jeff Healy...right up there with the best...mister sponaneous...for sure...Ty brother for this
Greatest guitar player in the world ever. I will brook no argument about this.
Jeff Healy, Marcus Miller and Dr. John - that's about as good as it gets.
RIP Jeff the Blues world still misses you 2021.

Cancer took his sight as a child...then kept coming back and Jeff kept kicking its ass! Cancer finally won. Miss you so much....Heaven’s Band!
Cancer didn't win. It was a draw.

Yeah, the bass was insane.
When the night comes falling, stuck in the middle, he played many that get no attention that are better than the ones often played,
He was the musician in the movie "Roadhouse" with Sam Elliott and Patrick Swayze. He battled several forms of cancer since childhood and finally lost his battle several years ago. I believe he was self-taught as a musician.

Fun fact: Jeff played his guitar on his lap because he started playing very young and could not wrap his hand around the neck.
Another Canadian gem! 🇨🇦

In addition to his musicianship, Jeff had an enormous jazz collection and hosted a number of radio shows in Canada. Try Angel Eyes!

Did you miss the titles? Dude on the bass? Marcus Miller. Dude on the piano: Dr John. Jeff Healey was a freak (a good one) of nature.
Knowing the triumphs and tragedies of his life, this song brings tears to my eyes.
