XVI:43 is astonishing, including a good portion of humor. An objection, as others commented, the humming while playing - I supposes it's the privilege og genius ;-). And perhaps also that some ornaments are played in an old fashion manner, i.e. not taking the upper note first, which gives too many of the same note, if this note is heard just before the ornament.
Fazil Say is exposed to a Fatwa from the Islamic radicals in Turkey in the context of an authoritative political regime. Let us pay a respectful homage to this defender of religious freedom ! Haydn is very demanding since his music is absolutely transparent. and his architecture completely in evidence. This requests an "architect - pianist". . If you play it perfectly from a digital oint of view but miss that aspect, you have all missed. FS is obviously ax ware of these perfect architectural structure and renders them through a strong and energetic but also sensitive and crystal-clear play. FS would deserve a brillant international carrier in a free word.
For me, Haydn's piano sonatas are far better than Beethoven's. I particularly admire the simple means with which he works. He does not need great technical difficulties to achieve the most wonderful effects.
