Chopin died at only 39 years of age. Most composers hit their musical strides at around 50. Assuming Chopin is the best piano composer that ever has and ever will live, imagine what else he could have written!

I see people disagree that Chopin did not have great compositional skills. Compared to like Bach and or Beethoven. But, there are things that you have forgotten:
1)Certain pieces were never meant to be heard by us (posthumous works. only Opus numbers were made to be published by Chopin. posthumous numbered works including the omnipresent Fantasie Impromptu and the late waltzes) The Fantasise impromptu was not copied from Beethoven. Arthur Rubinstein acquired a manuscript of the Fantaisie-Impromptu in Chopin's own hand, dated 1835, stating on the title page in French "Composed for the Baroness d'Este by Frédéric Chopin". The facts of its authenticity having been "guaranteed by the French authorities" and that it shows "a delicate care for detail" and "many improvements in harmony and style" in comparison to the previously published version. It was just Oster's opinion that it was similar.
2)By having a simple melody in a nocturne, for example, does not mean it is lesser than writing in counterpoint. They are two types of music from two different periods.
3)If you do want complex writing and harmony and think Chopin lacked it. A prime example is Ballade no.4
4)Is it not unfair to compare a 5-minute work against a symphony or concerto lasting around an hour at least?
5)If one were to use the ''shitty'' symphony composer good for nothing except piano argument. We could turn it around: No one previously in PIANO history had the technique of Chopin except Liszt and Alkan. Neither could they compose for piano as well as him. Other composers thought of it as a miniature orchestra, Chopin thought of it as a unique instrument. He revolutionised and challenged the whole German piano technique system, out of that came, for example, the Russian technique which is much different.
6)Schumann basically became a Chopin fanboy.
7)Twenty-seven years after Chopin’s death to Carolyne Sayn-Wittgenstein Liszt commented, “no one compares to him: he shines lonely, peerless in the firmament of art.”
8)Hiller, a pupil of Hummel’s, a great admirer of the music of Bach: ‘I could say that Chopin loved me, but in truth, it was I who was in love with him’.
9)Mendelssohn to his sister Fanny Hensel: […] At a lightning tempo he played to the bemused Leipzigers his new études and his new concerto [Allegro de concert Op. 46?] '‘It was a pleasure for me to rub shoulders once again with a real musician, not with such half-virtuosos, half-classicists who would bring together in music the dignity of virtue and the rapture of sin’.
10)One of the fathers of Romanticism
11)Why do counterpoint and complex harmony immediately mean great? The difficulty of interpretation of a Chopin piece rivals any other composer.
Fight me! Just kidding, don't roast me too hard. There is no right or wrong in music. To me, Chopin's magic lies in the hands of both the composer as much as the performer. Compared to other greats, maybe he was not your type. He is a hero to me

I find it astonishing how he turned the 'bad-sounding' dissonance into a whole different tonality (I suppose that might be the right word). That could almost be compared to turning black into white. Dissonances are really hard to work with but Chopin executed it perfectly!

I used to believe that classical music was just boring orchestra music that dead guys wrote, and then I started playing the violin. I still didn't like classical music in the beginning. At some point though, my opinion began to change due to the music I was playing. I have grown to love classical music. More recently I hadn't been at all interested in Chopin because of the dissonance in his music. This is my first time hearing all of these pieces (which I know is odd) and my opinion has completely turned. In this short amount of time, Chopin has become my favorite composer. His music makes me think about music as a whole in a completely different way. I believe that I will listen to this many times again.

Who else can make the piano sing better than Chopin? Listen to this on
headphones and hear Alessandro justify that claim here. Listen keenly
you'd hear him breathe as he plays some of the waltz - some would say
that's unprofessional but I like it that way as it helps me to enjoy his
interpretations better. It also indicates how well he incorporates his
emotions in his interpretations. True musicianship...

midday on Friday or Thursday ooh good for the one thing for a couple more nights then we should go out and see if it's worth a look mate lol its OK for a bit more then you don't have any of these in your own right lol you know how it's like going with your bike and its just too big to me so I will be getting it back in a couple weeks I'll have more of the rest in a couple weeks and I'll be going out tomorrow anyway lol cheers bud and I'll pop in for the evening of tomorrow evening when I have my final round at work to sort the rota and I'll get it off for a bit later in a few weeks now lol OK thanks so so sorry I've not seen this before so long weekend I thought you might want me out on Sunday for dinner or a night away with a family I can't even eat your coffee lol its just like you want a curry lol ha yeah a birthday present and then the kids at work and the kids are all going up a crazy weekend and the rest is a good night out lol its a wee walk down south to relax though so I'll Me emociona y maravilla la música de Chopin.

Pedal controlled beautifully and exceptional execution of expression. I find that the overuse of rubato overomatizes the pieces but I like it (Which I know my teacher would critize me for the rest of my life). I see beautiful voicing which I have never heard in other Chopin interpretations.Oh, what others might hear as heavy breathing I think is the pedal moving heavily.

These waltzes have been life-long companions beginning in the late 1950's. They were part of the essential core of having a "facility" for playing the piano though it didn't really blossom until my late 40's when improvements to digital pianos made it possible to play beautiful music without having a mansion and a Wurlitzer. These days I still prefer music that is melodic, full of subtle nuances, interesting and sweet. A thousand roses for my piano teacher, Jack Fawcett, wherever he may be resting.

The opinion expressed that Chopin might have lacked compositional skills is simply ridiculous. Bach was Chopin's daily bread. If you take a an aria by Bellini and play it on the piano it sounds a bit like a Chopin Nocturne but Chopin added to this all the riches he acquired from Bach's harmonies and counterpoint.

The pictures should be either Żelazowa Wola (where he was born from a Polish mother who just had a musical talent and not a father) or Szafarnia (where Chopin spent holidays and absorbed folk music based on which he then wrote these ...) or Warsaw (where he was he educated, took his first steps, etc.) - so certainly not Paris. His music is, after all, steeped in Polishness! I remind you of this with good will.
    All the best! Best wishes!

      Polonius
You are wrong and frustrated, his father existed and he was FRENCH, from the Alps (Saint Crépin, near Briancon) , so Chopin was 50% french, with a french name.
These pieces have very much french feeling, not only polish, and if you don t see that, it s because you don t know nothing about music.
Chopin, the greatest romantic, loved women in Paris, a very little in Poland, so his romantic education occurred in Paris not in "szafamia".
And, last but not least, GOD put him in Paris, not in Poland, the biggest part of his life, until his death, it was not by chance.
So, stop these foolish polish frustrations, Poland is a great Country, you don t need to be stupid to promote a so beautiful and inspired country !
      and listen to music !
