M’s dress did not fit. The dress wore her. The dress was too white for a woman of a particular age. She could have tried an eggshell. The veil was beyond ridiculous along with the messy bun. Friends don’t let friends make mistakes like that.

The veil had the flower of every country of the commonwealth sewn into it.
Which you can't see. And as soon as she sits down the effect is lost.
Not only that but the choice of designer is a big no. Royals are supposed to support their kingdom and should use fashion from said kingdom.
Having a French designer do the English royals wedding? Not great.

As obsessed as she was with Harry's mother, she probably wanted an extra long veil to emulate Diana's train. While the embroidery on the veil was beautiful, it did nothing to tie it to her dress. Again, her messy hair drives me nuts every time I see it. She was given a multi-million dollar wedding, and made such a stink about needing the tiara for a hair style try out, and still looked like she needed the use of a comb. Geez, lady, comb your hair! A reason, other than MM's character, the late QEII may have been displeased at the wedding is b/c in the absence of 'buffer' provided by a dress train the veil simply dragged on the ground. It was embroidered with the symbolic flowers of each Commonwealth country so in effect MM dragged the Commonwealth in the dirt behind her. MM is so vulgar. As for the power of good fabric the Duchess of Gloucester shows us how it's done! Also, Lady Sarah Chatto, Margaret's daughter - She doesn't stand out yet her outfits are quietly 'perfect'. Loved Margaret's veil. Any attempt at elegance re MM's wedding was ruined by her hair. Trashy!

The thing with the lass isn’t just that it was emulating Catherine’s dress, but Catherine’s dress helped end the strapless basic bridal gowns that everyone was stuck with for 5+ years with that lace. I think that what people had seen in Markle and had hoped for was that she’d be her own trend setter and make her own impressions with the fashion industry. Markle’s issue is that she doesn’t have the knowledge required to be fashion savvy to understand that not everything she puts on will automatically look like gold. In fact, she seems to deny that her body is unique in that a lot of attire she is limited to, and it would have been more impactful if she considered what looked best on her versus chasing fashion and thinking it’s a one fits all situation. She could have had that role in embracing that her body isn’t the common body shape of most ladies and ventured into finding what works with her body shape.
It would have been more ideal to see a different silhouette, while she was delicate with her frame, her bone structure though is not what the trumpet/mermaid skirt is made for. She need either a sheath or an A line at least. Understand how off the shoulders work, it tends to work best with those who do have not wide shoulders. And she should not have shown up wearing white and bringing the veil, period. The Church of England already made arrangements to allow her as a divorce to marry in the church despite its long history of tensions to those who have divorced, she should have at least understood it was not helpful to act like she could break more rules. She could have gone for the off white cream or even better a blush (not that dingy dress that South Park even used to reference her as a character.)

If anyone remembers Harry's mom Dianas dress was also wrinkled, but that was a mistake according to the designers, they have said they did not realize how much that type of fabric would wrinkle, which I find to be sloppy on their part since they are fashion designers, I would have thought they would have checked considering they are creating a wedding gown that the whole world was going to see. The Megs dress being wrinkly was on purpose.

I believe that they said that they didn't take into account the size of her father, the size of the coach, and the size of the dress along with the fabric. It all contributed to how wrinkled it was when she arrived at the church. But, I agree, they should have known better; however, they were young designers at the time and had to go to great lengths to keep the dress a secret. They learned.

Although not professionally, I'm a bit of a sewist and would like to add my 2 cents: Markle's dress needed the 2 vertical curved seams seen on Princess Mary's gown. That would've taken care of all the bunching, gapping, and wrinkling under the bust, near the armpits, and above the waist. I am sure, SURE! that it was suggested to her, because they are basic dressmaking techniques. Think of a corset, and how it has several angled panels pieced together to conform to the body. If you don't use seams correctly, you end up with something that looks like the wrapper on a chocolate bar, which is exactly what happened with her dress. I also wonder if the design was supposed to have been rendered in a DIFFERENT fabric, and Markle refused to take advice, because if the original idea was to make a gown that was not pieced at the waist, the fabric needed to be one with more weight, a softer hand, and perhaps even some stretch. I look and look at it and imagine a client who does not trust the expertise of her designer and gown maker. (Ha! I continued watching and you mentioned the stiffness of the fabric.)

Meghan’s veil epitomises her ego. I mean who did she think she was? The Queen of England? Rather she is a twice married actress wife of the spare (who at that point was about 5th or 6th in line). She had a cathedral length veil in a much smaller church (St George’s chapel in Windsor is impressive but it’s not Westminster of St Paul’s). She also had the floral emblems of the commonwealth nations embroidered into it as if she was representing the commonwealth which is rich from someone who (indirectly) called the commonwealth ‘Empire 2.0’.

As for Duchy Del Taco, where do I start? First, pure white for a 2nd or 3rd wedding? Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth was stunned she was wearing white. The dress itself was a horror show. A 5 yr old could have designed that thing. There was absolutely NOTHING remarkable about it. And can we talk about the fit? Looks like she pulled it off a rack at a bridal boutique an hour before her wedding. It did NOT fit her. And finishing off the look, her hair. Who in the hell thought it a good idea to pull messy pieces of her hair forward on her wedding day?

I can’t believe she and Harry made a big fuss about getting a tiara for the hairdresser. She looked like she just threw a few extensions in her hair and put it in a messy bun. I feel bad for the people that did her dress. Apparently the person who made her dress got fired from Givenchy, the designer of the dress, because of this dress even though Meghan kept changing what kind of dress she wanted. She and Harry didn’t deserve a big televised wedding. They should have done something more humble.

For Meghan’s wedding dress: I have always thought that a v-neckline would be a great improvement, as well as better fitting/tailoring through the bodice. Tailored seams and/or darts would have been slimming and flattered her figure. The boatneck and non-fitting bodice emphasized her naturally broad shoulders and lack of a waistline. Better tailoring would highlight the good aspects of her figure, and would reduce wrinkles as well.
A softer white color, rather than the stark white she chose, would have actually photographed better, and the wrinkles would have showed up less. Meghan spent years working in front of the camera, so I would have thought she would know that, but apparently not…
I have always been surprised that Meghan did not choose a British designer for her wedding dress. I thought choosing Givenchy was a bad PR move. She could have found a hip, little-known, up-and-coming British designer, to underscore that she was a new, cool royal or whatever. It would have brought fantastic attention to the British fashion industry and could have become a darling of British design. But she passed over that opportunity.

Do you know whose wedding gown completely SHOCKED me, in a GOOD way? Paris Hilton's! Throughout the years, and despite her wealth, she has not shown to have the most elegant of tastes, but when it came to her choice of wedding gown, she did not make a single mistake. It was romantic, refined, chic, and timeless. Her veil and dress went together like a dream---where the flower appliques get sparser on the gown, they go denser on the veil. It's just a work of art, and you can see that she LISTENED to the design team. I hope she's very happy when she looks back many years from now and realizes how perfectly bridal she looked that day.

The Queen's wedding dress, designed by Norman Hartnell, 1947. The dress is made from ivory silk and decorated with crystals and 10,000 seed pearls. In 1947 Britain was still subject to rationing, so The Queen, then Princess Elizabeth, collected clothing coupons to pay for the dress.
some of the soon-to-be Queen's young admirers heard about the rationing, they tried to send their own coupons to Elizabeth. However, transferring coupons was illegal, they were all returned with a thank you note and the princess paid for her gown herself.

IMO, Meghan's dress wasn't fitted because she must have smuggled it into Britain.
The late Queen must have told her not to marry in white. She simply must have. The late Queen knew how Christian Northern Europeans would react.
They married in a Christian church.
So Megsy must have been told not to wear white, so she hid the dress, and that made it very difficult for her to make fittings.
I guess Meghan went to Paris to take her measurements and that the dress was fully sewn at Givenchy in Paris and arrived at London just before the wedding!
She did this to piss the late Queen off.
She smugged at HMTLQ when she walked by her and she didn't curtsey.
She did all of this on purpose!
She was out to cause trouble!
So I don't want to discuss what she should have done with the dress!
Meghan knew exactly what reaction she wanted!
    And she stirred up trouble!
    We were gaslighted!
To see all the other dresses was fantastic!
    Thank you, Beebs! ❤!

Hey Beebs! I loved this video, I love wedding dresses although I cringe at pictures of my own. It was very 80s plus it was what my Mama wanted, not me. Southern brides often try to please everyone else and I was no exception. Mama realized it later and apologized profusely. And, I was in a marriage for far too many years. I have no children and I have no idea what to do with my dress. Any suggestions or thoughts?
Meghan, dear Lord, where to begin? What fabric was that dress made from? It honestly looked like something my cousins and I would put together playing dress up when we had two pieces of fabric and pinned them together at the shoulders. In fact, our "dresses" would have looked better because we used sheets or tablecloths, they flowed better than that dress. I remember thinking when she arrived and that veil kept coming and coming, surely she's not going to copy Princess Diana's train via the veil. I think that's exactly what she was looking to do, she wanted it to be compared to Princess Diana and there's no comparison (for a host of reasons). I wanted Harry and Meghan to work, I thought that the 4 of them could have a great impact on bringing issues to the forefront. But, looking back on it, she never wanted anyone to share her spotlight. I think that's why she was perfectly happy throwing her father under the bus. She entered the church ALONE. Spotlight on HER. She wasn't walked down the aisle by a man. Spotlight on HER. I doubt she wanted then Prince Charles to walk her down the aisle at all but only acquiesced because she knew that would push Queen Elizabeth II too far. Meghan was just playing a role, SHE was the star, and Harry was her co-star. If we can learn anything from her ridiculously rigid dress is that it mirrors her personality. Rigid, plain, and shallow.
    Thanks for your great video!
    Robin

Nicola wore the wrong shoes for the dress and the occation. That dress begs from daunty shoes and not that bulky platforms. I saw the shoes even before I thought of looking at the dress!

Crown Princess Victoria actually compromised on the question of the aisle walk. Her father walked her about 2/3 of the way down, where they met Daniel. He and Victoria walked the rest of the way to the altar together.

I think a huge factor in Meghan’s look compared to the others you show is that the other brides selected dresses for themselves and their bodies and their traditions. They seemed to have picked dresses that they really loved. Meghan dressed to make some kind of impression or statement that wasn’t really clear even in her own mind. Like many who are high in narcissistic traits, Meghan isn’t solid in her own “self” and is just always comparing herself to others. It was almost like the dress was completely separate from everything else about the day.
Norman Hartnell’s dresses were THE British look in the post-WWII years. The late Queen’s dress was beautiful and meaningful. There’s a novel written several years ago called The Gown that is a fun fictional story about the creation of that dress.

What I don’t get is the stark white. Sure, she probably wants to erase her romantic history but white doesn’t even suit her skin tone! As a darker skinned person myself, white looks too harsh against my skin so my default and indeed my actual wedding dress was ivory which suited my darker/warmer skin tone
