Thanks for another informative podcast, the comparisons of the BRVTVS - AHALA denarii was especially enlightening 🧐. Anything can happen at an auction, you can lose your shirt or score a windfall. Leu Numismatik AG sold another one of these denarii, lot 205, from the same auction that sold for 1,900 CHF 😲!

Some additions to that ancient south Arabian segment:
The denominations with letters depend on the kingdom issuing them, but for the most part the letters would be the following:
For the smallest coins, they would be marked with 𐩺 (y) for yś (pronounced ysa) or a sixteenth-unit, these are typically around 0.3g
The next mark is 𐩦 (sh) for ŝś (pronounced shysa) or an eighth-unit, these are around 0.7g
Next is 𐩩 (t) for tmrt (pronounced tumert) or quarter-unit, weighing around 1.2g
Next is 𐩴 (g) for gms (pronounced gumush) or a half-unit, weighing around 2.5g
The ones on the top of the slide in 5:14 are marked with 𐩬 (n) for nsf (nushif), or a unit, coming in at ~5.2g
The next denomination is 𐩫 (k) or 'kl' (kuh-il) or a double-unit, weighing around 8g
The final demomination isn't marked by a symbol at all, just having the Athenian tetradrachm design, but they are called rbt' (rabat), or tetradrachms, these come in at 16g or so
Keep in mind that the quality control for these wasn't as strict as Roman or Greek coins, and as such there are a lot of coins that are underweight or overweight
(Hey, I have the coin on the bottom left at 5:14!)
5:58 There are some gold coins minted by Saba' and Himyar, going from units all the way down to some gold fractional pieces, but these are *extremely* rare and hard to get
6:01 For the most part silver was used, bronze coins from south Arabia are pretty rare but you can find them if you look hard enough, there was a kingdom (Hadhramaut) that only issued bronze coins, but those are incredibly rare and hard to get. There are silver Hadhramaut coins, but they were made under the authority of Sabaean rulers and not when it was independent

Excellent show. I found it interesting you avoided the term 'bronze disease' for your reason to avoid the smoothed 'green disease' coin. I especially enjoyed your comments on the countermarked Augustus. You might consider an educational segment on such things as countermarked or otherwise technically interesting coins. I'm a big fan of coins with interesting 'fabric' as well as other things that were done to coins 'back in the day' for reasons other than increasing their value to modern collectors.
I don't like the eye on the Ahala side of many specimens of the 'doofus' type. For that price, we need fine style.

Great podcast! Love your take on the counterstamps, so true. I personally think it adds appeal, and certainly doesnt hurt they're usually cheaper. Would love to see a segment at some point about the different meanings of some that are known.
What do we do for the contest? Attribute the Eucratides I Tetradrachm?
