I think you may have avoided battles a little too much. You had the right idea about trying to get the two other armies to fight but, it seems like you have to be the catalyst for that things to happen. I think when you see those two armies fighting each other you almost need to stop what you're doing and fight, and make sure both their armies die. Also maybe there is a more optimal upgrade path? Not sure on that one, but your elite unit seems very strong against the basic unit if you can get those match ups in the beginning?
Yeah I agree, more battles! You need to make them waist money. The early game is probably the most important, the first 3 battles you need to have the other two fight each other and you need to clean up the winner pronto.
Agreed. If your going to commit to holding the J choke for a while might i suggest hiring a few defenders to throw missiles at incoming troops. Didn't fight enough to make the enemy armies use gold on troops instead of upgrades. Letting the other armies fight each other is a great strat... but only works if they actually clash, which it didn't seem like they were doing enough.
It is good to be back on the channel. I used to watch you all the time, but I found other things and broke off, but I will never forget all the line battles of the early knights of Apollo. I specifically remember one of the 4th of July battles. Good times. Glad to be back.
hey apollo, I struggled and played this map like 10 times until i finally beat it. What I (think) I found out, is that purple (pompei) has a buff and is stronger than blue. I often lost battles on my own flag against purple, even with reinforcements... So how I won was killing off purple first, and then taking F (and D,E), because you can position defenders on the stairs, who will slow down the enemy in case of an attack and help you win battles without spending too much money. Try it, I hope it helps ! P.S. Love your vids, sometimes I'm even watching them again with my bandmates sometimes :)
charging horse archers is never a good idea. ask marcus licinius crassus, or whoever led the christian army at hattin. use distant attack to cope with horse archers :D
ZiSt1989 true, and that is the most effective way to deal with them but during the crusades many commanders were left with no option but to attack with their heavy cavalry. At hattin by the time the heavy christian cavalry began to charge Saladin, they were already exhausted and had lost. Also, its a joke.

That GPM Bonus only applies when you stand on your flag, so for this strat I would have gone with the CS bonus from the main sign and the movement speed bonus from the levels
A strat i think it could work is have them both fight on the docks while you take the rest of the map and use j as a chockepoint in order to keep them in the docks
When I beat this what I did was immediately by legionaries in the beginning didn’t capture c and waited for purple and blue to fight over it then fought the winner and captured it and then put 6 defenders on the flag and then I took out J and slowly beat blue and then purple
I just put the other 2 teams against each other and captured all the other flags and just spawn camped them till I was strong enough to tank both teams
Gold per minute is worthless late game. Generally best to get flag capture speed, so that you can grab flags quickly. Makes taking the final flag of a faction a lot easier. Also, the abundance of flags you capture will make up for the gold.

Ive finally caught up to speed on all your vids PA. You've grown a enjoyable work, though im sad to the loss of the TW commentary, your commentary skills have diversified well. Like you i was getting TW burn out but doesn't remove the greatness of your audio skill. Keep up the diversity, keep up the sponsorships, if you do see a TW opportunity, just do one a year lol. Flag capture speed is a must for that map I think ^_^ Otherwise your strategy was correct I think, just try the same but with flag capture speed and the upgrade for the extra five soldiers, just to really maximise the speed with which you can capture flags.

Disclaimer - I don’t actually have this game - end of disclaimer. I think that you may have played too passively in this battle. You seemed to be playing in a support role for two alliances that didn’t actually exist. If you operate under the assumption that the only way you’ll be able to win is by points, then you need to consistently retain control of 4-5 flags. That’s a difficult achievement, but it’s made even more difficult by allowing a weak faction to stay in the game, taking more of your flags. I think you may have had better luck if you upgraded to legionaries early on in the game and then focused on the weakest faction. The other faction may briefly become stronger than you, but if you had superior troops and no second army to worry about, I think you could pull ahead. Of course, hindsight is 20/20. Keep up the great videos, Apollo!
Defend either C,F,J. If they run passed you, conquer their group of 3, but continue to defend either C,F,J. With venturing out to take the extra flag on occasion. But as soon as they run by C, F, J then conquer the group of 3 they were holding.
Maybe doing what you did this round but once you got the three main points and some upgrades, you should focus on getting rid of one of the factions. That way you have less enemies to worry about capturing flags and potentially pincer you.

Instead of holding the choke point to keep your three you need to play a cat and mouse style and just keep moving and capturing point after point trying to avoid as many fights as possible. Keep your standard and upgrades the same except upgrade to legions sooner. If you do that, you should beat them.
This reminds me of Battlefield Play4Free :) The amount of times I stopped a counter or helped to stop a counter at 999 points while we hoarding them... That time we took on a hacker on a half deserted server and beat them with positioning and through sheer amount of points...
Instead of mass militia, do mass defenders at J after you capture the 3 flags because defenders are much harder to get by than the militia and even legionaries. And then when you can, you venture out for one of the 2 other flags you were targeting
Score is total gold generated. Ideally you need the enemy to spend far more on recruitment than you so they don't get upgrades and spend their time throwing away troops
You need to focus Spartacus because when you try to kill Marc Anthony, Spartacus will get (most of the time) your flag's. When he's dead get Marc Anthony, close him in and you should probably win. I've Tried this strategy and won, but it'll be hard, very hard.
I would go for all the other flags and leave the three in the corner for last (the one you kept fighting for which I think was J) since they wont be able to take your other flags and you will win on time and you will also win through attrition.
I still didn't manage to win the campaign on alesia, tried about 20-25 times. as soon as brundisium came out, I gave it a curious try on custom battle mode. won on first try. damn. my strategy was similar to yours, recruit about 5-10 militia guys, get the harbour flags in the process and hold position at flag J (important to hold this choke point). *upgrades and strategy in the order of my attempt:* 1) quality dudes! from that point on, recruit legionaries only, no militia. you will have the better army in the beginning in case someone tries to challenge your J- flag. 2) standard guy 3) standard sign: gold per minute (you need to know, the bonus only counts if you reside next to a flag. if you're running around like a dog, you won't get back a single dime from this 250g investment) 4) fill up the ranks with legionaries, sneak in +5 army upgrade if income allows. adjust your standard-upgrades to your own situation 5) get flag protection and flag health next (helps defending at J and heals casualties) 6) hire some defenders for flag J and catch F or C, preferably F if you can (better vision imo). the defenders should buy time for you to come for aid. from here on, things got nasty, and I assume a lot lucky, too. I now was stuck at point F, thus holding 4 flags in total. I hired 4-5 defenders and tried to hold against two mediocre militia armies bashing against flag F contantly. I never got wiped out entirely there, the enemies felt pretty weak to my almost maxed out upgrades and standard guy. I won the battle by time out, by about 1k point lead.
Why don't you just go solo and chose flag capture speed for your main sign and make an army and tell them to defend J so you don't have to worry about the enemy taking your flag ;)

25 troops, standard, take C, flag speed upgrade, and take out the weakest unit first. Easier to manage with one army

The absolute winning strategy is to take F and get like 15 defenders on it, ant go about with 5 guys kiting the other armies and taking flags

Hire 6 defenders at J, it will help you at defending the flags and keep enemies busy so you can easily comeback and defend your flag.
