I feel like this would've have been much easier if you stuck to camping on the outer fortifications, and just waited them out. That is how Julius Caesar actually won the battle of Alesia, and why he built the outer wall.
I took the fort within 5 min and let the outside fall, then just captured the middle flag held it until my income was high and took the rest of the flags
Yeah I did the exact same thing, the fort is way easier to defend and the army came with the reinforcements so I defeated them and took the outside flags one by one
They should have a siege where you have two objectives outside the base and the enemy has three objectives so you are forced to siege the multi layer fortress
Realize that defenders are OP. You generally don't want them because defense doesn't win games, but on this map, once you have the fort, you want like 8 defenders. That way, you can just freely run around with a small army, and capture, and your defenders can almost defend on their own (not quite tho).
You should really spam the horn and put more banner points into your units. Extra unit power is always useful but extra gold becomes redundant later game. Also strong and more durable units = fewer reinforcements needed anyway. The horn doesn't just increase gold income, it doubles all banner effects. You could end up with +50% attack on your units with the banner and horn which would make it much easier to cut through an army and then quickly attack.
This level is too difficult. I tried 4 times and failed each time. Your only hope is having a max army and taking the fort early on. That’s how I won my 5th battle
The battle of alesia is one example of the quote "The best offense is a strong defense" . It's you besieging your enemies while being besieged too while your besieged enemies are attacking you and the enemies besieging you are also attacking so basically you're fucked up unless your Caesar.
I have no idea how Caesar fed his troops in that seige, let alone kept them responding quickly and effectively to all the attempted incursions into the wall. i get the feeling it was nowhere near as glorious as history books describe. Rampant starvation, sleep deprivation, constant terror, and of course the horrors of military chains of command.
I have a couple of pointers, The reinforcements are quite small, which means you can camp most of your forces away from the flag, bait the enemy reinforcements to you to prevent flag captures, probably kill em all with out using pilum but up to you. For fort captures, you have to figure out a way to break down the wall, then bait the forces half way between their fort and yours. Without engaging, once the enemy charges, throw pilum to knock down a majority of their men, you run around and run into the fort. camp men just outside the fort, usually the front of the gate acts as a funnel. Camping men in front prevents access to enemy general for respawns but throw your second pilum to continue to thin the crowd. It's important you don't kill the two horned guy, as that's what causes quick army respawns. I generally also hold formation, walk to the back lines, then initiate either testudo or pilum. This back position ensures you don't get capped by a friendly/enemy pila and allows you to force a particular flank by spamming regroup and charge as you circle them. Another relatively hacky tactic is to do the above, but then throw your second pilum once you see you've pressured a flank.
One thing to remember is this is also an economic strategy game. Points are gold. Some bases are worth more, it varies by map. If you aren't making a ton more than them, then you need to make them spend more. Take out their standard so it won't level up, and if you make them immediately spawn an army it means they spent a lot of gold doing it, which is less spent on upgrades. If you can make them spend all their money repeatedly you will eventually be against a weaker and smaller army. The extra challenge is the reinforcement armies which are smaller and don't spawn new troops. The problem is if you don't kill them they don't disappear so you eventually become hopelessly outnumbered. Gotta take out those ones while they are isolated

Galic reinforcements came & he built another wall around the wall he just built to defend against the troops in the town & the reinforcements coming from other parts of Gaul. It was basically a wall around the town, Caesars troops & then another wall around them.

Caesar then built a second wall surrounding that one to defend his forces against the relief forces. It also wasn't just two walls, it was full defensive fortifications.
Historically at Alesia Caesar wonhis greatest victory surrounded by a massive army of Gauls. The inner fort of Alesia was garrisoned by Vercingetorix and Caesar knowing of the reinforcements built two walls. One around Alesia to block Vercingetorix and another one to block the reinforcements. So that explains the situation in the game.

It was really intense and exiting ! I think you sould do more testudo to protect you from enemy javies and to keep the entry of your fortress while they reparing the door, it can give your defenders the time to beat the enemy too, without loosing so much troops. I want to see an other episode so quick :D
He can do what he wants to do and if he stops playing something for a week after months of only it that does not mean he has given up on it honestly stop being so greedy he made 3 play throughs one after the other after expressing how tired he was of the game
when caesar laid siege to Alesia they built a palisade wall around it to stop them bugging out, when a huge celtic army came to relive the siege the romans then built another palisade wall around the whole siege and were in turn laid siege to when reliving army arrived after a brutal fight in witch a force coming out of the town was defeated and the reliving army seen off the town was taken the people sold into slavery, at an estimated 10,000 roman dead a massive number at the time
Apollo are you sure that is the story behind this siege, because it sounds much like the Romans when they built a wall around a barbarian land to starve them out and then built another around themselves to protect them from the barbarian counterattack. except the first wall stretched for tens of miles and the second for hundreds. but i think its a bit more about the engineering aspect for the wall was built in around 3 months not the year that you might expect.( again my roman history is rusty so it may be wrong)
I always fail on that battle. The other ones all on first try. Tried it like two dozen times, like ten different strategies (including rushing in asap, always got overwhelmed). Can't beat that one. Yet.

8:55 you generally want to go around a force to nick a flag from them; or else they'll spawn around you at their flag.

Apollo you left the fort when you had one of the two at the fort

The way I did it is I directly attack the fort and capture the two flags. Then defend the front flag outside the fort 😄
