Great to see John Leyton again who is now 86, besides him & David McCallum 89, William Russell Enoch is still alive & acting at 97, soon to be 98 on the 19th November. Happy Birthday Russell.
Great interview, The Great Escape is my all time favorite movie of all time. Love James Garner, Steve Mc Queen, Charles Bronson, so many other great stars at the time. They don't make films like this anymore !
I have always enjoyed this movie...and your interview is AMAZING....it's so interesting to listen to the INNER-WORKINGS of the movie...thx for your interview...
The Great Escape is my all-time favorite movie! I've watched it over 100 times. When I was in middle school, I did a book report on it. Got an A on it. I loved the characters, the action and the realism of it. And still do.
That was a great interview...what an amazing story. Good to hear about the film from John Leyton first hand, and great you just let him speak without interruption. Cheers, Steve
I met John in a doctors surgery in Suffolk where he lives now , lovely chap we spoke about The Great Escape, and Von Ryan’s Express , then he was called in to see the Doctor, charming chap .
Oh man, i grew up watching that Film over and over again (and still pop it in today every once in a while). Brings back memories, thanks for uploading this!!!
I grew up in the sixties and lived in Great Holland near Frinton on Sea. My parents were friends with Tony Leyton, John's brother, and his wife Joan. I was also friends with John's nephew, David, aka "Diggi". He told me some interesting anecdotes about his uncle's film roles. ☺
Yes. Great interview. WHERE is the location this was shot? It looks like the location where McQueen first pulls off and ducks behind the small barn, ready to make his last stand. That would’ve been nice to include in the video if that was indeed the precise location! Where was the interview recorded?
What many younger people and Americans don't realise, is that John Leyton was very humble as he talks about working with big star's. I expect John leyton was glad to get out of England and film abroad during 1962, because at this time he'd have been chased down the road by teenagers, his name was all over the papers, he was being heard regularly on the radio, In Britan he was at that Time a major pop Artist. A short 10 minute promo film had been made about him in late 1961 called "The John Leyotn Touch" this was shown before a movie at cinema, a kind of short infomercial, by the end of 62 the hits had all but dried up
Also with the Canadian contributions from a couple of books I have read in the past. The Scrounger was from Calgary and I believe the Surveyor was also Canadian. Wally Floody wasn't given a credit as an advisor for the movie. He was on the set from the start with Sturgis to get it right.
Is that possibly the shed that Hilt's hid behind from the germans after propping up his Triumph against it?.....Cool to think that wooden structure would still be standing....

Great to see someone that not only survived the plot of a movie I've seen so many times, but the many decades since.

Great interview. Thank you. John Leyton sang the 'Great Escape March' and he also did it in german. 😊👍

I loved the relationship he had with Charles Bronson in the movie.
This guy is the last man standing of that iconic cast

What year / and when was this?
@@classic_movie_buff 1964 when I first saw the film on tv
The title of “Tunnel King” belonged to Canadian Wally Floody. In the film, Tunnel King was Charles Bronson, as Danny
Thank you for posting that.

To be fair, the end credits of the movie names two "tunnel kings". So officially there are two in the movie.

Not the shed in the movie. Have stopped by the one in the movie a few times on trips riding through Fussen over the years. 4:09
Only him and William russell of the main cast left. Others like extras and crew still alive also
Please upload this film
Nice bike in it's day
0:50 Wow he looked really good, like german Siegfried Rauch ( Eagle has landed) godfather of Steve Mc Queens son
Another time.
08:14 James Garner was Scrounger.
