i really like this one for the form factor and weight but i am worried about the heat anticipation. How does this perform in comparison to the normal dji unit?
In theory yes because it has the same power output levels. But I uses only one antenna so your rf coverage pattern could be less effective causing a precieved reduction. As with all things rf. Antenna placement is crucial.
Hi Tweet, Im thinking of making the jump to HD. Is it a pain to use to use your own radio instead of a Dji radio? Also do you think heat will be a problem when running @700mw in the middle of the summer ? By the way the radio grips I purchased on Etsy are fantastic , thx. Peace !
Running your own radio and RX isn't any different than normal. The DJI radio does make it SUPER easy to get going and all the functions on the goggle can be done via the DJI radio which i really like. Heat shouldn't be an issue as long as you are moving. There is a over heat protection to keep the chance of damaging anything down. But i have disabled that option just so the chances of the VTX shutting down during flight won't happen. I'm glad you like your grips. They are a labor of love for me. If you haven't see my how it's made video you should check it out. th-cam.com/video/SSOY2nMdVO0/w-d-xo.html
Would love your opinion on something, had a quad fall from the sky and hit the ground, vista unit no longer powers up. All wires are still connected well. Is there a specific component of the vista that might be Susceptible to failure upon impact? Would like to proceed with a repair before replacement.
Sorry I really don't know where to start with this one I have heard that if the camera module gets damaged the Vista won't power on so maybe try swapping in a new camera first
great vid tweet. I didn't see how you removed the camera cable. How do you remove the cable from the vista and the camera side, so I can replace with the og coxial air unit cable? Are there 2 tabs on each side like the og air unit to remove the cable? or? if you have a vid on it, would love to view it too!
Is digital UFL? That doesn't look like mmcx... Getting ready to order some antennas because I WAS able to buy a nubula pro kit .. will be my 1st digital quad
That's what I figured. Every vista iv bought since this one has had the same solder. It amazing that caddx is ops checking everyone before they head out.
I got the Vista in a Diatone 369 3inch quad. Using 650mah 4s its under 250 grams.. And the full size air unit in the Floss 3.0 using 30mm standoffs. Im waiting for the Vista to come back in stock so i can build a sub 250gram 5 inch build. I like to see you put the Vista in the Floss 3.0. I thought about doing it. But i went with a 3 inch to keep weight down
I didn't weigh it without the heat sinks. This little guy runs REALLY hot with the heat sinks and i think it would overheat without them but the only way to know is to give it a try.

Just found your channel; fantastic tear down and review man! I just replaced my air unit with the vista in my 2" cinewhoop and dropped the weight from 144g to 119g. ^_^ I've drank the dji koolaid and am slowly retrofitting my quad fleet. I'm conflicted on DJI entering the fpv sector since I'm pretty sure they're just going to dominate just like they did in aerial drone photography and push out the little guys. But, I also can't argue that they don't do what they do very very well. When I flew the dji fpv system, my brain melted. :-) I have the same issue when trying to recommend any other system other than DJI. :-/ Back to your tear down, that seems like an awful lot of thermal paste! I was always under the assumption that you need just a thin contact otherwise it starts to do the opposite of what it needs to do. I'm curious on if one were to clean it off with some isopropyl and re-apply with a CPU-like application and some quality stuff, would the temps be affected beneficially? Just a wondering. Lastly, I think DJI goggles are made for us Asians with our flat faces :-D Hahaha, brick wall... ^_^ Great job man! Subbed!

I've had two vistas burn out on 6s I'm sure due to power spikes The last one was it own iFlight 5-36V 3A LC Filter Module and it popped to -gurr My others on 10v or 8v are fine My advice to all is don't use 6s 100+c racing batteries -prolly only use 4s to be save or use a different power source intended for the air unit. Thanks for the video! I was trying to see if there is a fuse in the vista unit -no luck hehe
Great review. Especially the perspective at the end. It would be great if the dji goggles fit better. It sounds like image quality is enough of a change that people would tolerate the bad fit and light leakage.
@@TweetFPV With the weight of the Vista - what do you think a 3" build would look like or even a smaller 2.5" build? It would be great to put that on a smaller quad, but I'm wondering what kind of motors and props you would need to still get good performance.
i rather have the air for recording clean , rather not use gopro-$$$ extra money that will break if you crash.lighter weight also. my opinion only. vista i can use for smaller 3 - 4 inch quads. if you can do the gecko i have 2, 1 need replace crack frame , i wil go that route. thanks for your video info!

I have only used Dji except a very short and out of control flail around a park but that's it. I never wore any Fatsharks, they must be like wearing your favorite slippers or more luxurious . Dji goggles are not so comfy I agree but I am sure there will be good ones soon. Giving the Big Dji alot of money!! I heard someone say gotta boycott Dji because they are in China and are spying on us through the gear. Not sure about that but I have learned that lots of all the stuff is coming from China right,?He must not have noticed the months passing for boxes from China to get there. I have had a few camera drones from Dji in the last few years and never got the sinister vibe but I'm new to FpV . The customer service was none at all back then too but I hear that has changed. I love being able to see and I am not upset I came in at the end of analog. I have been in the early years of a few other things and FPV I am happy about coming in late a bit. The other huge reason I like Dji is I can almost put stuff together and fix etc. The other stuff is almost to challenging for my brain. Zero computer experience either. Makes building and maintenance a full time frustrating ordeal with SOS emails going out to JB and others. Ok done with the newb rant.
Not tormented. Just wish there was other options because I really don't care for the goggles much. But with that said the dji goggles are my top recommdation to anyone getting into the hobby that isn't primarily forced on racing. Oh and yes everything comes from China except for the orqa goggles.
MC's Creations it is the the price of fatsharks goggle and it has no receiver sold with!... the dji has digital receiver.... And you can alway add an analog receiver for less than 50$... the inverse is not possible :)
Not a true tear down; just a look see inside. Doesn't determine components. If you are not an electronics engineer, what do you expect to learn besides how "neat" it is? Waste of product. The ring of goo is heat transfer compound. Only thing you learned is that it is not hollow! Better to get the DJI unit; better heat dissipation...ha! The use of that blue heat transfer goo might explain why it gets excessively hot. You WILL need to add a bigger heat sink.
Can you display on hdmi port at base station
Based on your disassembly would you consider using a 3mm tap on the mounting holes to mount the unit?
Great video! I’m considering putting a a naked one of these on a Roma or LR4
That's why I'm wondering custom lighter heat sink.. so I can still use 1watt
I think the gasket is really thermal silicone transfer to the outside case

They test every Vista before leaving the factory, that's why the V and G pads have just a tiny bit of solder
instead of using a traditional metal can for EMC/EMI, they use that aluminium part for shielding AND heat dissipation.
