Gotta love WP and KTM, keeping suspension tuners happier than necessary for all these years! Somebody please hand WP a KYB fork so they can learn how to do it better.

Great video! If I ever own a KTM I'll be sending the suspension to you.

Interesting diagrams, I never saw low and highspeed in comparison.
I rode the 2016 open cartridge and now a 2018 xplor. My subjective impression on the 2 forks are the complete opposite.
The 2016 was average in responsiveness. More compression clickers meant harsh, less mushy feeling. Zero effect for highspeed situations. Only rebound clickers worked excellent.
The xplor has perfect responsiveness. Compression clickers are working excellent from soft setting (extreme enduro) to motocross (hard). Clickers have better but still not enough highspeed effect. Overall (I agree here) the fork has stock a too progressive feel in highspeed situations. I noticed this when slamming into trees in endurocross or overjumping.

Thanks for video. How do you get the black plastic top off the brass rod without damaging it? It’s very tight.

I’m late to the party but could you do something like this for the open chamber split rota fork from the Adv bikes. There is no data on these that I can find.

WP drill holes to minimize low speed damping so the test rider doesnt hurt his back riding over the storm drain lid at the back of the factory.

Very detailed. Nice. I'm awaiting arrival of m 2017 FE501 and 185 pounds without gear. I've heard the 501 is sprung or set up for 165-180 pound rider. Do you believe I'll need to have the fork springs upgraded? Advice? Thanks bud

It's likely, but there are several factors involved, including your preferred terrain and ability level. I suggest you contact us through the website or email so we can provide a more thorough evaluation.

mid is one way valve right ?, so when bottoms, the B cone will perhaps, force oil in, and open compresion valve ? change the inner tubes and see what that does, start with a lower oil capativy, and rise to correct level amount, sorry for my english. If you dont try....

thanks for interesting video. I have HuskyFE250 MY2019 and the WP Xplor comes out different than 2017 (heavy springs and some modification inside shock probably) because the 2017 WP was too soft. I have noted that also the actual WP forks tends to close specially in release of gas and to become harder after several hours of use. Maybe it's possible operate with oil (density, level, etc )....let me know your opinion :-)

The "cross" drilled holes are to enable refill for situations when the fixed oriface mid valve "pushes" fluid through the base ??

I would think that the holes are there to minimise the compression adjuster effect on the rebound damping.

There is zero rebound damping in the left fork leg

I'm looking for a preload adjuster for the new front suspension of the 2019 smc r, also an extension set. the manual says they are wp 5448, but these are unknown on the internet.

A year later and the internet still has zero references to the 5448

Chamber has 2 exits and mid piston is a fixed orifice, oil is going to flow path of least resistance. At LS it will flow thru the mid valve and out the top bleed holes as rod enters chamber, little or nothing goes thru the base valve. At HS the mid valve generates pressure and forces flow thru the base valve with cartridge being back filled thru top bleed holes.
The mid valve is basically becomes float adjustment, and the base valve is now the HS shim stack. There is no other metering happening. This however will not work well as a HS circuit because you will never get the flow you need thru the small port entry on the base valve and this is why it feels like a fix orifice system. You would need massive port entry and port area on the base valve for this to work well. You are not displacing 12 mm of rod volume at this point, you displacing 23 mm of mid piston thru the base valve. No matter what you do to the shims on this side, it has little or no effect on HS hit. The limit is port entry on the base valve.

Why many of the tuners still insist on opening up and using softer shims on the base valve then???
And for what I see - on both sides.

I have an 2018 TE300i, no crossed drilled holes on them. I can’t get full fork travel, and I’m too heavy for std springs. Am I right in assuming that the spring guide pushes into the cartridge and it used as a anti bottoming device? I think it’s hitting a hydraulic lock before it bottoms out. I’m thinking of drilling them like the 2017 Xplor.

Did you ever get an answer on this? I have a 2018 250 tpi and have the same issue, it will never use full fork travel.
