My older brother bought a brand new '69 Fairlane convertible (same body style as the Torino) off the show room floor. It was beautiful and fast. Black Jade with a white interior and a white top. I loved riding in that car with him.
These cars were too heavy to be serious competition back in the day, but could still surprise a few people in hotter cars at the stoplights, or the freeway on-ramps. I was a long time owner of a 1970 Torino Cobra 429CJ.
69's were lighter (in general) and FE engines are lighter than 385 Blocks. A 68' or 69' 428 CJ/SCJ should beat a 70' 429 CJ/SCJ, everything else being equal, of course.
Hi Kevin, All you need is the swagger of Clint Eastwood, the way he talks & curses everyone & you too can make your version of " Gran Torino " Absolutely stunning convertible, I was hoping you would put the top down so we can see the difference between the top up & the top down. Looks like the Brothers need to build a quarter mile drag strip near there warehouse so all there muscle cars get the chance to get to top gear. Another great video again. All the best for 2020 & remember if you come to Australia love to show you around. Your number 1 fan in Australia Louis Kats from Melbourne Australia 👍🇦🇺😀
Some of us really love these old used cars just like u and the brothers do ! Lol like u said imagine getting that for like 3k when it's worth like 80k. Lol
I recently read that the 60's Fords set a bit low in the rear to create the illusion of the car accelerating hard. Not sure if this engineered design concept is true, but when I had the springs re-arced on my '68, I had them set to 1.5" higher than stock; Just looks better. It's funny how EVERY SINGLE TIME the 428cj or 429cj advertised horsepower number is mentioned by ANYONE, we have to follow it with the disclaimer about how it's NOT the actual horsepower number. This Torino is sweet! Yes, it's indeed rare to see a black on black ragtop. For some reason, they didn't sell a lot of Torinos in black. This old girl has been looked after over the years. The Mustang and Torino (Fairlane) shared a lot of parts, so the scoop, for instance is not just similar to the Mustang's, it's the same part number.
I had the same car but a hard top cobra jet, 4 speed, posi with 3:50 gears would go pretty good.Mine had all the smog garbage off it and hooker headers. The car would fry the rear tires at will. They were way more powerful than people realized.
I really like to know how many were made I live in interior of Alaska and my neighbors got one original 428 Cobra Jet for Speed Torino notchback how many do they make.
Love the burnout near the end.... Cobra-Jet says "Melt the tires? tell me when to stop" On a more serious note, this might be a Super Cobra-Jet car, the standard Torino Cobra didn't come with the functional Ram Air, the SCJ delivered with the functional Ram Air, the 428 SCJ carried upgraded internals. The VIN number would designate, Q for the CJ, R for the SCJ.
Never mind what's under the hood, this has all the appearance of a muscle car. A true and real factory condition street machine, not customized and should be left that way!! Great vid!!!!
back in 74 my father had a older galaxy with a 428 i was 8 so i could be wrong it was dark green its sticks to mind because i was there when he traded to his brother for a newer pick up.....he told my uncle it was a friggin monster..
Looks awesome for a car that is driven... You can tell it's been very well taken care of.. My Mom had a 69 Fairlane 500 convertible but I believe it was only a 302 2bbl....
I'm a Mopar man, but ALL the Detroit muscle cars of this era were BOSS....that's it.......'nuff said... Very nice ride. Yes, Ford did fudge the HP numbers, one reason was NHRA, but I also feel that by having a lower advertised #, the insurance rates would be less.. the CJ is closer to about 375 horses...for sure.
Owned an original from South West Ford in Parma Hts. Ohio. Took it to Germany when I was assigned there. Pissed "Conrad" off every time I got on the A-bahn because I passed him on the Einfahrt. Sold it when I got back from Vietnam; bad mistake.
Everyone knows it's the 427 that's the one to have in the Cobra. I did a job for a guy who had a cobra with race history. I also did a job for a guy who has this car...I think it is a 1970 though. He had $25,000 in body and paint 1 stage lacquer...no clear black.
Beautiful car. Despite the so called poultry sum of $4337. That was still considered to be medium priced money in 1969. An air conditioned 69 Pontiac Catalina sedan went for about $4300 back then. This car has everything but power windows and air conditioning. If it had those options the car would have cost about $4850.
Yup in 1981 that car would be 1200 bucks at the most 700 given on the trade in for a new Fairmont wagon 4cyl cause the kids all fit in it better and got 30 mpg.
Way back in the day {I`m now 69) a g/f of mine had one like this but not a gt..real sleeper tan in color convertible..4-speed also steel wheels and dog dish hubcaps...ran it`s ass off at the time I owned a 61 Vette and she would tease me by racing me sometimes..was no match for this car..she was always a gear head and knew what she wanted...hard-working young girl ordered it just the way she wanted no a/c etc..wonder whatever happened to that car?..hmmm whatever happened to that girl?..hehe
Rare car I've never seen one in person. Lets hope the posi is just shot and Ford didn't sell this customer a 428 CJ 4 speed car with no limited slip rear end !?
I'll be darned. There isn't someone in the comments claiming how their neighbor/dad/brother/friend had one of these (no matter how are the car is, there's always that ONE guy...) and it actually made somewhere around 500 hp, lol. Maybe I'm just too early...
I agree. I personally think it would look better without the stripes on the rear quarters, and probably without any stripes. Otherwise, it's a very nice car.
"Largely original and unrestored and we like it that way." WE like it that way too.
,, thank you.
@@johnbouchard9447 I like to see them respected but driven as well.
Who wouldn't love a car like this. It's a shame that more cars like this don't exist today.

This car was a player and looked awesome especially on the 70's drag downtown .
Dang, Kevin, that is awesome!
For an "unrestored" car, it remains looking as cool as ever!

Love the Torinos. Great video as always my favorite TH-cam channel.

A little holster wear always looks great!
Nice ride!
Ah, the good old days. Thanks Kevin
awww, yea... keep those big body Fords coming... personaly id rather have the HT version.. 'verts arent really my thing...
Landau Cobra.
I really like to know how many were made I live in interior of Alaska and my neighbors got one original 428 Cobra Jet for Speed Torino notchback how many do they make.
They made 200! Get a hold that car. Its worth alot of money. A 428 anything. Now days! Are you kidding. Shawn
New a guy who had a 72 model with a 429 which was the last year made I believe and it would ROAST em!
My friend had a baby blue or baby blue 390 for Speed the spaceman gears it was cool thank you for your service and your time GS out
Love the burnout near the end....

What a great looking Car. Love that open Diff. Thanks for sharing.
Love Old Used Car's
The formal roofline 69' Landau SCJ Cobra (with or without shaker hood) was way sicker.
Got to love a ford
Never mind what's under the hood, this has all the appearance of a muscle car. A true and real factory condition street machine, not customized and should be left that way!! Great vid!!!!
My first car - 69 Torino GT. But mine only had the 302. Still I loved that car. Drove it to 221K
A great car! Like the look better than the fastback.
You're correct. Awesome the way it is!
Love to see a kick ass FE.
Super Survivor ! Very cool car .
back in 74 my father had a older galaxy with a 428 i was 8 so i could be wrong it was dark green its sticks to mind because i was there when he traded to his brother for a newer pick up.....he told my uncle it was a friggin monster..
Love the "Vert" I have 2 69 Fairlane coupes, I prefer them but then I love the early muscle in any form!
My first car was and still is a 68 Torino GT gotta love it
Looks great for being original. it was loved. Torinos any year look good.
Looks awesome for a car that is driven... You can tell it's been very well taken care of.. My Mom had a 69 Fairlane 500 convertible but I believe it was only a 302 2bbl....
I get extra excited when I see a 4 speed
yep , they were easier to drive and much-more forgiving even for the girl friend to learn on , than the 5 and 6-speed close ratio manuals of today !!!
Kevin is the best. And the cars rock!!!
Gator McClusky would approve!
I'm a Mopar man, but ALL the Detroit muscle cars of this era were BOSS....that's it.......'nuff said...

Looks like someone swapped a PI aluminum intake on it. The CJ intake would be cast iron. I've never figured out why the CJ intake was iron.
Lower cost.
@@413x398: keeps the front tires on the ground...
Nice Torino!!..
Very cool.!!!
Love this channel, keep up the good work
That was great keven thanks.

The narrator sounds like he should be on PBS.
Can hardly tell the difference between a 1968 Fairlane GT and a 1969 Torino GT ...but I'll take either one with the 428 SJ engine and 4 speed.
There were no Fairlane GTs after 1967, Torino GTs only.
Awesome ride but still rather have a fastback than a convertible
me too, but the girls back in the day LOVED the ragtop for riding and being seen cruisin' at the beach !!!
Sweet car.
Thought it was a Galaxy 😌
@Danny Mathis Not were there usually looking. Were there Always Looking. FORD POWER !!!
Gaging by that puff of smoke @ 4:12, the engine needs new valve seals.
Nice car!

But, it's NOT a Cobra.
Kevin looks like a giant at the beginning of the video lol
Dam thats him wow
I love it!

Wish Ford would make convertible GT350's
Nice!
Love it!
I imagine not too many 428 CJ Convertibles were built...
Thomas Barnard of 250 built; only 750 remain!
I want one
Happy New Year BTW...
Have you guys done a 1976 Pontiac Grand Prix?
Nice my dad had the 69 Talledega.
Yup in 1981 that car would be 1200 bucks at the most 700 given on the trade in for a new Fairmont wagon 4cyl cause the kids all fit in it better and got 30 mpg.

Not crazy about the stance. Front needs to be down a bit, back up a bunch, better tires. Incredible car either way.
Rare car I've never seen one in person. Lets hope the posi is just shot and Ford didn't sell this customer a 428 CJ 4 speed car with no limited slip rear end !?
i'll take a 2 door hardtop just like that.
Great car, doesn't actually scream musclecar at you,but i bet itgoes like stink!👍
Are the “Brothers” going to buy Muscle Car Review ?
Sounds like Nick Offerman.
Go the Torino
'' Rotisserie'' series is completed ?
I don't know . I think that the car deserves a " frame off " it must have been amazing when new .
Can't frame off a unibody.
I'll be darned. There isn't someone in the comments claiming how their neighbor/dad/brother/friend had one of these (no matter how are the car is, there's always that ONE guy...) and it actually made somewhere around 500 hp, lol. Maybe I'm just too early...
Cool car but not a fan of rag tops. 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
Love the car, however its got the wrong vacuum advance, it needs a vacuum retard also with 4 speeds, auto trans had the single. great car....
...why didnt you put the top down? not even once :(
I can deal with they're dash but the steering wheels are just sucking bad.
Not a big fan of any muscle car convertibles. They always lose styling cues from the roof line. Hard tops always look better IMO.
Unfortunately those days are likely. Long gone...
Umm big ford
The upswoop on the rear quarter of the striping is just wrong. Makes it look like the car is sagging. Never a good look, especially on a rag top.
I agree. I personally think it would look better without the stripes on the rear quarters, and probably without any stripes. Otherwise, it's a very nice car.
Shows off a convertible musclecar, never puts the top down...
OK boomer!
