What is Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do?
Roughly translated as 'Way of the Intercepting Fist', Jeet Kune Do (JKD) is a unique and strategic approach to empty hand combat. With a strong focus on footwork, distance, and timing - JKD aims to evade attacks, set up clean shots, and break the rhythm of an opponent.
Although there are many misconceptions about what Jeet Kune Do is, its practitioners can agree on the main tenets on which the system is based on:
JKD is Simple, Direct, & Non-Classical
Dominant hand lead stance
Attack & defense must revolve around 'On Guard' position
Straight lead punch is the cornerstone of JKD offense
JKD movement must be efficient, effective, & explosive
Practitioners must execute their techniques under live resistance
