I find that with most Bon Iver songs I have to listen at least a dozen times before I can even wrap my mind around it . The dude is so absurdly innovative and talented it's like I literally have to catch up to his songs.
Wow this is the most accurate comment ever xD I'm always a little confused when I first listen to them and yet I love them all instantly - just takes a bit to process all the magic
Might I suggest listening to Alexander Panos, his music can't really even be categorized as music, they're more like cinematically sonic scores, sort of like this stuff but faster-paced :)
That's well-said, Jacob! I wasn't really on board with 22 a million on the first listen, but I kept coming back and now I'm of the opinion is a masterpiece! It's like... the music has to teach you how to approach it, before you can fully engage with it.
I was driving earlier today when I got the notification that the new Bon Iver album released, I immediately with no hesitation hit play. This song began to play and I wasn’t feeling it at first but when your vocals came in and said “I stood a little while within it” I lost it, my emotions went crazy and I couldn’t stop crying, I have no clue why that hit so hard but it did and I love you for it.
I probably almost never understand their lyrics but I still somehow connect with them. ‘I stood a little while within it’. It hits hard. Makes me feel something beyond normal

The highest power is love and this beautiful gem reminds us we should love each other and work together. Unfortunately we live in such a negative world these days but that doesn’t mean change isn’t coming, it takes time and a generational shift for things to come full swing, you’ll see. Love and peace to anyone and especially those who can appreciate such beautiful unique music, you’ve got a special ear and a beautiful soul.
To me it's a perfect culmination of all the styles from previous albums, but as I found Bon Iver through 221M I absolutely love the evolution of their electronic sound in this. I got tattoos for that now thinking of one for this as love it even more.
I like how he progresses the themes of his music over multiple albums goes from a questioning and doubt towards these great realizations of acceptance and love, and from a darker perspective on life and the universe to a optimistic one. With all the crap coming out in modern day music, it’s great to see an artist that actually pushes the boundaries and creates art and without caring about public reception. This is how music is meant to be and how timeless pieces are born.
I hate seeing comments like this.It sounds similar to the typical uggh the music on the billboard suckkks I only listen to "obscure" music cause I'm "intellectually superior". Btw there are plenty and I say plenty of artists that are completely devoted to the artistic process and not towards public reception. And they aren't even hard to find. Music doesn't "have" to be a certain way. It's a multitude of things to different people. Maybe we should stop judging ppl on things as trivial as taste in music cause music means different things to different people.
Sorry I called modern music crap I guess. I was just sick of Old Town Road a year ago when I wrote this comment. And Bon Iver is not that obscure. Idk why you went through so much effort to invalidate my opinion. Next time just drop a dislike and move on.

The music you guys have made as Bon Iver has really brought me so much joy throughout these last 5 years of my life, and I cant really thank you enough for that. The passion and soul that bleeds through your sound resparks this jovial sensation I lost long ago during my transitions from an impenitent young boy into a somber, bitter man. The art you guys create gives me this euphoric peace when i hear it, its like you can capture the sensation of biting into a juicy apple and transcribe the exact feeling into sound. The music you create almost gives me this sense of gratitude; like it better exposes me to the wonders of being human; all of life's ups AND downs. The grand sweeping motion that starts around 0:28 totally caught me off guard, but it's so strangely serene and earthly... Like the waves rushing forth with sound and color, that staticky sweeping sound. It kinda carries along the melody with it and creates a wonderful depth that just stops everything and carries you along for the ride. where has this been all my life?
This is all you need. This song speaks to me in strange ways. I made stupid choices these last two years, and it wasn’t until a few months ago I let go of my stupidity. There’s beauty in brokenness.
